    Excellent explanation and demonstration. If I had seen a video like this years ago, I would have gotten myself a mute much sooner. A student of mine was recently asking about them; I'm going to send her a link to this video, which will help more than I can at the moment, given social distancing!

    Hello, I just bumped into your channel and I like the way you explain everything in detail. I would like to make my own mute for the also sax, would you mind letting me know which part of the bell to measure to ensure that I'm doing the right thing. Thanks.

      Hi thank you for your question. IMO it takes some trial and error in order to get the right size of the mute because everyone's preferred size is going to be a little bit different according to their playing style. For your reference the diameter of the inside of my alto mute is 4.5cm and the diameter of the outside is 7.5cm. I use a Selmer Series II alto.
