      Hi Charles, thanks for the comment and congratulations on taking up the saxophone! If there's anyone who reads this comment contemplating whether to start the saxophone later in the life, you're a great inspiration and reminder that it's never too late to start. All the best on your saxophone journey!

    Beginners take note. THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. And play long notes - loud to soft and back again. Develop your SOUND. And learn where to breathe - listen to the singer.

    Great tips thanks! -most people when the tell us how to do it say leave a 'tiny' bit of the mouthpiece showing above the reed tip, but I notice in 'placing the reed' that the point of view is high not parallel with the tip, or so it seems, which means that were we to look at it square, the tip of the mouthpiece would disappear - confused. .

    My question (complete beginner) is how soft or hard do I blow the 'jet' of air? I could use trial and error but would never know if I was right or wrong. Always suspected lower notes needed more air? Thank you.

    Shouldn't you put the mouthpiece on the neck of the saxophone before aligning the reed, to prevent coming into contact with the reed when putting it on thr cork. Sometimes it's difficult to get it on, even with cork grease, so you have to manipulate a lot more.

    • @SaxTuition
      @SaxTuition  3 года назад +1

      You can put the reed on after you've already put the mouthpiece on the neck, but I find it's a lot easier to align the reed properly if you do it beforehand. If you're having trouble getting the mouthpiece on the cord (with cork grease) it is possible that you may need to get your neck recorked and fitted to your mouthpiece. Otherwise just try to avoid touching the reed as best as you can :)

      @@SaxTuition thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I've just started playing sax and I'm having so much fun. There is indeed a problem with the cork. I bought a new mouthpiece, is it perhaps because of that? My teacher advised me to put the reed on after putting the mouthpiece on the neck. Perhaps because of the problem with the cork.

      It's gonna be way easier if you apply Cork grease

    Was Dizzy pudding his checks for circular breathing?

    • @SaxTuition

      No, I think he just learnt to play like that! Very few trumpet players before or since have ever puffed their cheeks like Dizzy, he was one of a kind 😊
