They improved so much so fast!! It's very impressive! I'm planning in forwarding this video to my band teacher from my very first year on band and asking her if I was kind of like this when learning (I learned to play it pretty well surprisingly fast). This was absolutely hilarious and kind of like a throwback to some of my earlier band memories. I learned a couple of good tips on how to improve my embouchure as well! Thank you!
hearing her teach is so soothing because my Saxophone teacher was very chaotic and lived on the principle of 'you already play piano u should know how music works' on the basics and ended up helping me bs my way to my grade 8
Emma is a wonderful teacher and they truly were amazing. Starting with a true beginners piece and scales like any student rather than throwing them immediately in the deep end was fun to watch. I really hope that they explore some brass instruments next! Having a true appreciation for the range and difficulty of different instruments only helps you grow as a musician and enjoy music more!
1:28 - 1:31 The tenor sax is somewhat close to the vocal range of the bari sax since the tenor voice is an octave higher than the baritone, but the tenor sax naturally plays at a much higher range of notes than the baritone where the tenor sax's notes in concert pitch range from Concert A flat in the staff in Bass Clef to altissimo concert E flat in bass clef whereas the bari sax ranges in concert pitch from concert C below the staff in Bass Clef to Concert A flat above the staff in Bass Clef (the reason I refer to the Bass Clef in my explanation is because: Tenor voiced instruments or lower tend to be written in this clef for composers that write their entire musical scores in the key of C (Concert Pitch), and my background is that I played Euphonium in Bass Clef predominately (even though just like the Tenor Sax, it can also transpose to B Flat Treble clef and I know how to read that as well), so it's easier for me to transpose the notes that since that's what I'm used to). So the instruments are much further apart in terms of range of notes, but are closer to vocal range and size.
Tenor/bari player here. I would like to clarify that the tenor is in fact a fifth above the bari, that will be all Edit: It is the alto that is an octave above the bari. Almost forgot to mention that too
It’s actually a bit heartening today see twoset struggle so much. They’re such good musicians and usually pick other instruments up relatively quickly, this just makes them seem a bit more “normal” lol
EXACTLY! I came here to do the same thing "why is mine not making a sound?" "...probably because you did something wrong.. " These little things are just *chef's kiss*
You know, the best part of learning instruments is that no matter how difficult it is, if you just keep practicing, it becomes instinctive to the point where you don't have to think anymore. You just do it. This video reminds me of those times I struggled learning cello and sax.
This is honestly a dream come true, I learned to play violin first, then in 7th grade I picked up the saxophone, I have tried other instruments since then, and they're nice and all, but the violin and saxophone have been my favorite and I love seeing people trying to learn the saxophone (or the violin, but you guys already know that XD)
I really like this series. Next to it being incredibly funny, the musicians teaching are so good at explaining that I actually learn a little bit about how each instrument is played!
A question for saxophonists with absolute pitch: since the saxophone is a transposing instrument, how do you read one note and hear a different one? I'm a pianist and it seems so strange...
I learned alto saxophone in 4th grade before any other instrument, so I hear everything in Eb. I have to transpose notes into concert pitch if i wanted to make the note name match the pitch (im working on speeding my conversion time up now that ive taken a music theory course)
Charts (like Real Books or Bird's Omnibook for example) as usually transposed into the correct keys for your horn (Bb or Eb.) If someone sticks some C concert chart in front of you, you'll have to transpose on the fly, a tone up for Bb or minor third down for Eb. Like anything, it can be achieved with enough practice time.
With enough practice, it’s the same thing as “A flat is the same fingering as G sharp” like “pressing 6 keys down on alto sax is D, which is also known as concert F”
I play both the alto saxophone and the piano and if I want to transfer a piece, what I do is remember that C on the alto is Eb on the piano, and then just transfer accordingly. I did this recently with pirates of the Caribbean lol.
Well… you tried!!!

It was so nice how she put things in strings player terms! An amazing teaching strategy- Emma also seems to have a rlly great personality too
it's always interesting hearing the comparisons between the violin and other instruments. i thought it was really cool when she used bowing to explain how to use breath!
My partner played clarinet and sax into his thirty's in March of this year, he had a stroke. Music therapy has brought him back. While loss of sensation in his left hand made the clarinet very difficult, the sax has brought him back.
That's wonderful to hear! Wishing him a speedy and complete recovery :)
Thank you for the well wishes and kind thoughts. He is doing great 👍
@@charlesduit5610 Glad to hear it!
who else is waiting for twoset to make a cover of a symphony or something playing all the instruments by themselves
That would sound terrible. But I will be listening serval times.
I'm ready to buy a ticket
The tired old men are relatable 😂
I didn't know l was anemic when l first started flute, l'd always get super dizzy. 'S all good now, tho, and l *freaking love* playing tenor in Jazz Band
Thank you!
Note to self: sax instructor is the kindest instructor ever.🌻
They are indeed!!
Well, you need so much patience for teaching sax.. normally it takes a long time until the students make some better sounds :D
I think it's just emma, all the sax instructors I've had are terrifying
True
@@kylaho5134 my first teacher was terrifying but he quit so I must of been a really bad student lol
Emma was very constructive and overall such a good teacher!!! The end product was amazing!
Love the edits! 😂 Lost ships at sea, +1 tired old man
Emma seems like a great teacher, very patient and encouraging
I love that I immediately recognized Emma's demonstration as the Glazunov piece I played for solo and ensemble last year! Sounded beautiful!
It’s oddly fun watching Twoset struggling on wind instruments
Always is, as a woodwind player I find it amazingly hilarious.
Yesss! Woodwind series is hilarious!
Especially the episode with clarinet when he cant even make a proper sound xD
hearing her teach is so soothing because my Saxophone teacher was very chaotic and lived on the principle of 'you already play piano u should know how music works' on the basics and ended up helping me bs my way to my grade 8
when editor san put "lost ships at sea" i lost it HAHAH
4:09 AND WHO SAID MARCHING BAND ISNT A SPORT >:3
Eddie's already got the tenor energy right. Give him a barry and he'll be doing Leo P stuff any day!
Have to like for the mention of Leo P!
B a r r y
it's spelled Bari, you wouldn't spell it barrytone saxophone. Barry's your neighbor, bari is your saxophone. :)
@@S_R1117-m7m Depends on where you're from. It's how its spelled in most of the Germanic languages, and in the original Greek.
@@ericmyrs I had no Idea, my apologies.
It's the most violinist thing ever to naturally want nothing to do with alto 😂😂😂
Why?
@@lrg6212 viola is an alto range instrument
I think this is probably the best instrument learning video they've done. Emma is such a good teacher!
Yes I really want them to try and learn a brass instrument too!
I would like to clarify that the tenor is in fact a fifth above the bari, that will be all
Edit: It is the alto that is an octave above the bari. Almost forgot to mention that too
@@karthussakamoto I see. Thanks for the clarification
It’s 80% reed adjustment, 10% ligature adjustment, 9% cleaning, 1% playing
TENOR GANG
I teach a lot of saxophone, so this was priceless! She did a good job.
brett: it's like kissing someone
eddy: twoset sexy time
the silent after that kill me 😂
I feel like he tried to make a pun using sexy and sax but it failed 😂
I actually love these puns, they remind me TwoSet older before-PG videos with more adult content (like making fun of composers STDs and such).
I'VE DONE MY WAITING. 12 YEARS OF IT. Finally, as a saxophonist I really enjoyed it!
It’s actually a bit heartening today see twoset struggle so much. They’re such good musicians and usually pick other instruments up relatively quickly, this just makes them seem a bit more “normal” lol
09:30 they are laughing about him but obviously he is the only one doing the correct and legit saxophone movement while playing
I'm not even halfway through but i just HAD TO pause to comment. Editor-san's touches of brilliance are awesome! Props to editor-san :)
EXACTLY! I came here to do the same thing
"why is mine not making a sound?"
"...probably because you did something wrong.. "
These little things are just *chef's kiss*
“Ships lost at sea” 🤣
There are two types of people -
Emma : you did so good! You are secretly saxophone players
Pheobe : you're being too nice they sound terrible
Wind instruments be like:
“That’s it, just get some air through.” ☺️
“More…” 😈
As a saxophone as my secondary instrument (bassoon as my primary) Eddy's facial expressions playing tenor were absolutely amazing
You both did so well! And Emma is a fantastic teacher (and a lovely person)
You know, the best part of learning instruments is that no matter how difficult it is, if you just keep practicing, it becomes instinctive to the point where you don't have to think anymore. You just do it. This video reminds me of those times I struggled learning cello and sax.
omg she was such a good and sweet teacher, i love when people actually make an effort to teach well c:
My dad is a saxophonist and I showed him this video and then he told me I was grounded LMAOO
lol
Lol Wut bahahahah
This is honestly a dream come true, I learned to play violin first, then in 7th grade I picked up the saxophone, I have tried other instruments since then, and they're nice and all, but the violin and saxophone have been my favorite and I love seeing people trying to learn the saxophone (or the violin, but you guys already know that XD)
@9:22 Eddie giggled into the sax, got me laughing so hard. Love the vid!! Great job everybody!
perception: let's make beautiful sax music together
reality/ editor-san: lost ships at sea 3:23
This warms the cockles of my cold dead classical saxophonist heart.
Good one! Lol
4:59 When the teacher isn't at school for a while.
Emma reminds me of my mother, not only because my mom played sax in marching band, but because they’re both sweet and kind.😊
I love how she explained it in violin terms so they would understand clearly😂
Emma used to play violin as a kid, but she hated it
Emma is a really great teacher! So encouraging 😍
10:30 Brett: did I just unlock *j a z z* mode?
can’t wait to see twosetviolin play careless whisper to their future loved ones/lh
It’ll be careless screams of agony with this lot
I get nervous everytime i watch these guys play a wind instrument because they look like they are going to pass out
I have been waiting for this series to start for so long
I really like this series. Next to it being incredibly funny, the musicians teaching are so good at explaining that I actually learn a little bit about how each instrument is played!
I started out on an alto sax, but then moved to a Bari sax. Those first squeaks are to be treasured in my memories.
Also, 2set tries clarinet/Bassoon?
Fellow bari?
fellow baris??
Bassoon!
my bro plays bassoon I think Brett/Eddy would just die from the weight pf the bassoon
“We Try Learning Saxophone in One Hour”
Me (former saxophone player) and rest of saxophone gang: Finally Twoset-senpai has noticed us! 😁🎷
I have played alto sax since the 5th grade and didn’t know about the altissimo register!!
Eddy: **chooses tenor**
Me: **looks across room at my tenor**
**happy saxophonist noises**
A question for saxophonists with absolute pitch: since the saxophone is a transposing instrument, how do you read one note and hear a different one? I'm a pianist and it seems so strange...
After a long time you get used to it. When playing I’m thinking in instrument pitch, everywhere else in concert pitch.
