For April fools day u should post a 20 minute video titled "What Exactly Are Nopon?" And it just starts off with u saying "Nopon are Nopon" and the rest of the video is just Riki's theme on loop
I agree with most of what you stated, mythra's character arc always seemed to me far more interesting than what most people gave it credit for, but I disagree with the way you understand the aegis' dynamic, you say things like "100% pyra" like they act independently of each other, but they can basically speak telepathically with each other, and they can switch at will, every action one takes needs to have at least some degree of agreement between the two, the will to sacrifice herself for the sake of rex just cannot be absent of mythra at the end of chapter 6, and is something I believe should not be ignored. But still, great video, I'm always willing to hear someone speak more about xenoblade 2, so I hope you keep doing it. By the way, I loved the reference at the beginning
Xenoblade 2 is the story of Mythra and Jin who experienced the tragedy of loss at the hands of war. They are victims of humanity's hubris, but they chose vastly different paths. Jin chose to keep living, to keep the memories of Lora alive so that their experience together would not be for nothing, to give meaning to her existence when the world has forgotten her. Mythra chose death, a desire to disappear forever and wanting to forget the tragedy caused by her and Malos.
She had her memorys. She remembers Popi and the way the Both of them lokken at Rex and the others is with a warm and trusting smile. Also note that in the title screen after you beat the game Rex Pyra and Mythra are both holding hands while looking at the world treen. So yeah they capt there memorys and now they're enjoying the happy ending they achieved with Rex and the rest where they should be:)))
This is basically Pyra/Mythra's story and how Rex helped her overcome her terrible past and gave her something to live for. That's why I like the ending of her returning to Rex even after she gave her life to save him even though she wanted to keep living and have a life with Rex. That final song that play's during the ending she's pleading to god to have her life back to return to Rex and we see her have that desire granted to her which she deserves. Although there is one last thing well the visions of Rex she has in Torna every vision we see occurs in the main story except for the last one where Rex no longer has her core in his chest he has rebuilt his house on Azurda and he turns around with a smile on his face after someone calls out to him most likely Pyra and Mythra, so I'm just wondering could that had been a possible future she saw where she somehow is back with him, but it might not have happened since she wasn't sure if she was coming back.
Protagonist and hero are two different things, if you are making an argument that she’s the real hero of the story then that makes sense, but a protagonist is the character the viewers watch from basically beginning to end.
One of the things I like about the best JRPGs, like XC2, is that every big character feels like they could be the protagonist of their own grand story. That's one of the reasons I was so excited for Torna when it was announced, as it featured Jin (and to an extent Lora too) as the protagonist. That being said, if we were to write a fully featured story for them as their own protagonists, most of XC2's major characters would have a story that drastically differs from the one we got in the game. Nia's would definitely include her time before becoming a Flesh Eater. Zeke's would include his time with Amalthus. Addam's would include his family in some way. The same could be said for Hugo, Morag, Malos, and others as well. The interesting thing is that if we were to make this for Mythra (and Pyra to an extent, as here probably wouldn't include Torna), her story simply wouldn't differ from the game we already have. Maaaaaybe there's an argument to be made for the year between her awakening and the start of Torna, but the point still stands. Mythra's story would not differ from Rex's, despite the fact that I would still call Rex the protagonist of XC2. I'd in fact say that they're BOTH protagonists. Du-agonists? Dual-gonists? Is there a word for that?
One thing I just realised that suprised me when I discovered is that Lora's talent art is named "Swallow's flight" so is Patroka's level 1 special. Did Jin teach her that move the crossing arts between Xeno games would a really cool video to watch.
There's really a lot of interesting themes of self-loathing and finding a reason to live that generally goes unexplored in X2's plot. Mythra/Pyra's character arc is probably the most interesting example, and it really makes me wonder what might have been if the writing was just a bit stronger and didn't rely so heavily on anime cliches or rehashing X1.
true. but if the game delved deeper into those plots, the devs probobly feared backlash from it. though, personally, I think that kinda writing would make the game story and supports more intriguing to delve into.
I think it depends on who you have switched to. I have Pneuma always set on Pyra, so she's always present in the cutscenes instead of Mythra. You can switch them in the cutscene viewer too.
Beating the game again and choosing Mythra over pyra really makes it look like this was totally mythra’s story. This is a great analysis as always. Can’t wait for the upcoming xb3 content!
Imo, I wouldn't say she had bloodlust, more the fact that she wasn't fully control of her own power & at times far too self reliant upon it, but I would say your spot on with Pyra, being the less powerful, but more caring side of her, whatever the opposite is of a Tusndre
It's kinda like saying the Monado is the protagonist. Kinda, but kinda not. Personally, I consider Rex the main character of Xenoblade 2, so technically, he is the protagonist, and in Torna, Lora is the protagonist.
A protagonist is perspective we view the story from, so Rex is the protagonist of the story by this definition. If we use a different definition, where the protagonist is the character that the story revolves around, where they are the central part of the plot, then Mythra would be the protagonist. We see the story from Rex's perspective and we learn the story at the same time as him, but the story exists outside of his control and has been a long running tragedy since before he existed, where the tragedy centers around the Aegis's. The story revolves around the actions of Mythra, Malos, and Amalthus in the past and how that affects the current time, but we experience this story from the ignorant perspective of Rex and how his perspective was able to change Mythra.
Honestly I can get behind Rex being the protagonist of the main game but when it comes to Torna, Lora and Jin may be the view point characters but the main focus of the story is clearly Mythra. After all the stuff involving Lora's mother and Jin's memories is done with Lora and Jin just kinda take a back seat to the rest of the plot as Mythra's development and the Aegis war takes center stage until the epilogue where it wraps up Lora's story and set's up Jin's involvement in the main game
@@greenhunter473 Mythra is the main character of the base game as well. Rex is the perspective we see it from, but the story revolves around Pyra and Mythra and their tragic past along with the main driving force of the story being their goal to Elysium and stopping Malos.
Yes Mythra is the protagonist of Xenoblade 2 as she is the one who's character changes throughout the game where as Rex does not change along with Lora
Rex definitely changes, did you play the game? Rex starts out as this childish kid with no idea what he's doing, still is like that up to Vandhams sacrifice, but then he starts to mature and before Pnuema sacrifices herself and Aion, he accepts that he can't fix everything and needs to let her go
@@TempestRex_ Rex only changes in Chapter 7 and he doesn't accept Pneuma's sacrifice rather cries about until his friends tells him he needs to become an adult and accept her decision. In chapters 1-6 he stays the same only until Pyra is taken does he ever really change and after that he stays the same only with his goal now being I fight for my friends.
You saying a lot of peoples didn’t like Pyra&mythra coming back. Me, I would’ve probably never touched the game again if it wasn’t for that (I simply felt that the self sacrifice seems forced and shouldn’t had been needed in the first place. And the hero/love interest sacrificing themselves at the end is an overused cliche)
I disagree with the idea that Pneuma is not an independent personality but instead just a combination of the two. In the little time we have with Pneuma she does behave differently than either of her two younger sisters. Just as Mythra was present and informed of everything that happened to Pyra even though Mythra was asleep, so too was Pneuma. Also, if Pneuma was only Pyra and Mythra combined, then them coming back is truly just bad writing, but if Pneuma is distinct from the other two then her sacrifice both has meaning and a cost.
Mikhail sucks He is basically the reason why mythra shut herself off and created pyra (i know there's more to it, so shut up) But 500 years later.... does she even recognize him? Mythra was just about to kill mikhails and patrokas blades and all he had to say was "she is so beautiful" Am i the only one that sees a big missed opportunity? Like give me a chapter or something where mikhail and mythra interact, or at least, when jin was with the crew, mikhail should also be there How did he turn from this kid with trust issues to this womanizer that only cares about looks? (And don't give me that patroka crap, we all know he only likes her bc she is the girl in the group) Like.... i know torna gave mythra, jin and malos more depth But why did they butcher mikhail this much? In his last scene he was like "they remind me of my old group".... but how? No really! How? You only fought against them twice and had just a couple lines of dialogue, how do they remind you of hugo, addam and lora? Just because they are a group that wants to save the world? I usually don't like the characters that only like women bc of boobs, so i didn't like mikhail from the getgo But then in torna they did something new and interesting with him, they made him the silent kid that has literally lost everything and everyone So when lora and jin found him, i thought there was going to be a very long character arc where he opens up and what not The only person he opened up to, was milton.... milton dies at the end and he kinda is pissed off at mythra/malos/the world We also know that after torna, mikhail got kidnapped by amalthus and turned into a blade-eater So there should be a great setup for a brilliant character arc.... but nope He sees morag up close "wow, you're actually beautiful" I know this doesn't have much to do with mythra and i also know that i can have a condescending type of articulating myself, but i am actually curious about how others feel about mikhail Also english is not first language, so sorry if something wrong

Rex and Pyra/Mythra are the protagonists, not just one them. It’s driver and blade, one in body and soul, sharing an unbreakable bond. They’re as one.
Technically Xenoblade 2 can also be considered as Jin’s story too
I wouldn't mind Monolith making game games revolving Jin's tragic life along with his time as the paragon before Torna.
