-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... Кино
"That's the way it began, we were hand in hand Glenn Miller's band was better than before... " That line refers to Glenn Miller, not Steve Miller. The Glenn Miller orchestra was a big band from the 40s, and you can tell by the orchestration that immediately followed that line, which "Miller" they were talking about. So obviously, this is an older couple reminiscing the old days.
Spot on!! Maybe they should do a Glenn Miller tune, eh?
How stupid! I always thought the lyrics were Bette Middler’s band. 🤣
@@brianevenson9655 absolutely! And “moonlight serenade” would be the one to do. ( that’s probably the tune they were dancing to)
I thought the lyrics said "Glen Miller's bamd..."
And “That (Cole) Porter tune *Night and Day…*” is another older reference.
, "Little River Band helped define the easy listening sound of the 70's and 80's.
Other his include:
"Man On Your Mind", "Cool Change", "Lady", "Lonesome Loser", "Help Is On Its Way", "Take It Easy On Me", "The Other Guy", "The Night Owls", "Happy Anniversary".
All of these yes please!! 👆🏼👆🏼
😊 Absolutely! So many top-notch hits.
We too!
Yes 👍
Need to hit all these songs!
Oh guys, you will absolutely LOVE their epic "It's a Long Way There". 9 minutes of musical brilliance, and it has literally EVERYTHING! Harmonies, guitar solos, rhythm changes...
Seconding It's a Long Way There. It has everything in it and it never gets old.
3rding It's a long way there!
Never tire of listening to that song. The guitar tone is exquisite and memorably melodic.
Totally agree 👍
Fourthing that. Just make sure it is the longer version, not the 4 minute version on their Greatest Hits album.
Glenn Shorrock has one of the smoothest voices in pop music history.
Glenn is the voice of Little River Band!
Agreed. Saw him in a very small club in Canberra a few years ago, amazing voice after all this time.
Little River Band is one of the most hidden gems of that era. Night Owls is a banger, Lonesome Loser, Cool Change, Lady, are all great compositions. Great musicians, great harmonies..you can't go wrong!!
"Cool Change" is my favorite of theirs. It touches the heart & soul for everyone who loves the ocean. Maybe one or both of you feel the pull of the sea.
And I bet a lot of my fellow subscribers feel that longing & love the song. Hope you react to it sometime.
💙🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜🐬🐠🦭🐋🪼🦦🌊🩵💙
"Take It Easy On Me" and "Lady" are sublime, flawless.
My favorite also!
Yep!
💯
My favorite too
I was introduced to Little River Band, the Atlanta Rhythm Section and The Amazing Rhythm Aces within a two week span in the 70's.
It was an amazing time to be alive.
Ha! Yeah… gotta love a little Champagne Jam!
I’m Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight is my ARS fave!
Two of my favorite bands.
Love ARS, saw the live with a friend just before moving out of town.
I guess you know that ARS was started by members of Dennis Yost and the Classics IV from late ‘60’s-early 70’s, who sang ‘Stormy’. ARS, if memory serves, did a remake of it.
Little River Band are underrated! Please do more!!
Little RiverBand deserves more listens. Their sound is deceptively simple but it’s like vanilla ice cream on a hot day. It hits all the right notes. “Optimistic Steely Dan” is a great description!
That mellow 70's vibe. Sometimes it's exactly what you need.
Sometimes it's like a healing balm on my soul.
"Lady." For someone who only knows them for a couple of songs or so, "Lady" is one of those perfect hit songs from the late 70's that my 6 or 7 year old self loved. My attempt-at-being-cool self as a teenager and early 20's "serious music listener" attempted to deny its greatness, but then I just let that stuff go. It's a great song. I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.
YES. Hard yes. One of my favorite songs when I was 9, one of my favorite songs now.
This song is a lazy, rainy Sunday afternoon in fall. You've time travelled back to the 70s. No cell phones. No emails. You're at home, just opened a bottle of wine, the smell of cooking wafting in the air while you and your partner dance in the middle of the living room in your slippers. It doesn't get any better.
Perfect description.
The founder of The Eagles is quoted as saying Little River Band is THE best singing band. "It's A Long Way There" is a MUST! "S" tier" guaranteed ! Although they have many you don't want to miss.❤
That was THE SONG of them, we loved to dance to that song in the early 80s in a little German town called Unna.
It's a Long Way There is the greatest of a long list of great songs.
Awesome song!
The best blues jam song they do.
Gotta hit Lonesome Loser next! Quintessential Little River Band.
"Steely Dan who isn't jaded". Love it. great description.
This is a perfect example of some of the “pretty” music from the ‘70’s. Best way I can describe it. It’s just pretty music.
"Mellow Gold," as in the title of the "not available in stores, call now, operators are standing by" compilation album from late 80s/early 90s TV. Later borrowed by Beck for the name of his debut album.
@@joeday4293 haha instant flashback to RONCO
@@laurawalkerJD $19.99?
Little River Band today is the forgotten secret cove of the 70s. Everyone owned their Greatest Hits, but they were here and gone faster than any major band I can think of by comparison. Incredible band.
Yes, victims of a crowded era. Pablo Cruise, Heart, Supertramp, Foreigner, Steve Miller .. all chasing non-disco airplay. Then Fleetwood Mac's Rumours left them all chasing their tails.
They still tour. I'll be seeing them again in August in Laughlin NV 😊
@@bacarty007Not the same band. LRB were Australian, there lead singer, Glen Shorrock, stupidly sold the rights to the name.
@@bobcrockett6016 sad to hear! Thanks for letting me know 👍
The Miller band referred to was probably the Glenn Miller Band. This was in the 70’s, so an older couple reminiscing would have been harkening back to the 1940’s and the Glenn Miller big band music. Plus, right at that moment in the song, there’s a background orchestration which would also give a Glenn Miller vibe. Great song. And the Glenn Miller vibe also rocks. Check out “In the Mood,” his number one hit.
Absolutely!!! It will put you in the "Mood"!!!! The question is, will Andy and Alex go that far back in music history to check out the "Big Band Swing" era???
I was wondering who else would let them know. Thanks for saving me the time. I about spit out my drink when Alex said "Steve Miller's band."
@@ArtofFreeSpeech LOL! I do that often listening to these two young men. I tell myself, “They just don’t know.” Lol. And I remember older people saying that to me when I was young. And I just appreciate that they are listening to my generation’s music, some of the greatest music of all times.
@@brianevenson9655 I as thinking the same thing! Honestly, I’m heading off to work and I think I’m going to have to put on some Glenn Miller.
@ArtofFreeSpeech Me too! It is very obviously not "Steve Miller". It gave me a big laugh, to be sure!
Love this song. Favorite part is when he sings “And the Porter tune” and the chorus sings “night and day” because that’s a Cole Porter tune!!!
Lady should be the next tune
I’m glad you said the Porter lyric! I wasn’t sure!
check out the live version guys,,,better
You have to hear LRB's "It's a Long Way There"...the extended version. You'll thank us later.
I think Little River Band is wildly underrated these days. Such tasty melodies and fantastic musicianship. "Cool Change" is probably my favourite song by them, followed by "Lonesome Loser" and "Take it Easy on Me." Thanks as always for an excellent reaction!
Man this takes me back to my early 20s in the mid to late 70s. Man we had good music back then, and so damned much of it, we could hardly keep up with it all, seriously, that's not an exaggeration.
No lies detected!
Need to check out their debut single from 1976, "It's A Long Way There", a harder rock tune. Be sure to check the album version of the song to get the full instrumentation. While "Reminiscing" is a great, great song, it is probably one of the most "easy listening" type songs they ever did.
LRB was sometimes referred to as the Eagles of Australia. On this particular song, Frank Sinatra called it "a perfect song" and wanted to record it himself! That's a pretty strong compliment!!
A&A, you'd like their "Help Is On The Way" and "Lonesome Loser" !
Little River Band (one of Australia's best exports) has a whole bunch of hidden gems. They are a great ensemble band and you really can't miss with any of their stuff from the 70s into about 1982. Today's song is one of my top three from them.
Their album The Net, released in 1983, is still top notch to me. Loved pretty much every song on it when I bought it. John Farnham has some serious pipes.
@@m.y.o.b.724Farnham is the goat👍👍 if you haven't heard it, listen to his version of the Beatles song - HELP, LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Trust me! 😲🤯
✌️🇦🇺
"It's a Long Way There" is a banger. Check out the long version
The bloke who played flugel horn on this track gave me his drum teaching papers , changed my playing completely.
It’s A Long Way There!!!! It’s one one of the earliest songs and classic!!! It’s an amazing journey!!!!
This track is the meat of my PERFECT YACHT ROCK sandwich: "Reminiscing" between "Moonlight Feels Right" and "Strange Way."
Strange Way is fantastic! Love Baby Come Back (Player) and Fool (If You Think It’s Over), Chris Rea, too!
Throw in a little Gold by John Stewart featuring Stevie Nicks. Maybe that's dessert.
@@kbusby4824
Bruh! Wow. Totally forgot that one.
I guess I'll see it and raise either Walter Egan's "Magnet & Steel" with Stevie and Lindsey on backing vocals...or, since Boogie Nights resurrected that track, how about Steve Forbert's "Romeo's Tune"?
Damn I gotta add "Strange Way" to my Ultimate Yacht Rock playlist. Thanks mate.
Man, that's a tasty sandwich. I'll have mine with a scoop of "How Much I Feel" by Ambrosia on the side, thanks
LRB is Soft Rock GOLD! "It's a Long Way There" is an almost 9 minute Pop radio hit with harmonies, orchestrations, and guitar solos that any group would envy. You've been sleeping on this group, but everyone has been. You couldn't get away from them in 70's/80's radio.
Second!! Love the Little RIVER BAND!!Check out their song “Lady.” They are a MAJOR rabbit hole of HITS.
An Aussie band with West Coast vibes. Awesome musicianship - and Glenn Shorrocks voice is fire. These guys are among my top ten, no doubt.
LRB (the original LRB that is) crafted so many amazing songs that were so unique to them...the lyrics, the harmonies and musicianship as good as anyone at the time. It's A Long Way There is epic and rocks more, while Cool Change, Lady, Take It Easy On Me, Lonesome Loser are all great songs among others. The Eagles felt LRB had the best harmonies of any group at the time, so that is quite the compliment
My favorite LRB song is the Album Version of It's a Long Way there. (at 8:39, with orchestra)
Another great song of theirs...Nights Owls
Best 2 Yacht Rock songs
1) Ozark Mountain Daredevils- Jackie Blue
2) Dobie Gray- Drift Away
"It's a long way there" is their masterpiece..!
Yes, it is !!
Little River Band and 10cc take me back to the '70s so easily...along with Disco, Funk, and Rock the '70s were filled with such amazing music in all genres!
Been watching you guys since Andy was alone from his bedroom - which sounds so wrong- but tho I haven’t sent you any moolah, you have to go with blabla’s suggestion: It’s a Long Way There is LRB’s best song… more raw and rocky than their later poppy tunes.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this song, Lonesome Loser, and especially Cool Change - but Long Way There is just great.
Saw them live back in the late 70’s or ‘80, 7 guys, great players, incredible vocals (very much like the Hall & Oates late 70’s band - everybody sings!), and sad I saw them just once !
It's at least an A+. I think it's a masterpiece of a song. Everything about it is iconic. I've heard this song about 500 times in my life, and I'm still impressed. When Alex hears it more, he'll get into the song's emotion and concept, as the theme is largely universal for everyone. And we haven't even mentioned how great the band performed the song. That alone is an S. Great reaction guys!
It's Sauce. It's the whole spaghetti dish. It's "damn, somethin' smells GOOD!" Sauce. It's "there better be dippin' bread" Sauce.
S for sappy!
😂Yes. I can see how you'd think that. Especially if you're emotionally an ice cube. 🤣 @@dougdavis8986
@@rlwetz4317 yum...now you made me order some penne Bolognese...
'Lady' and 'Take it easy on me' ...is probably the best 2 songs that Little River Band performs.
Great songs but don't forget Cool Change:)
My favourite song of all time. Reminds me of when I first met my wife, and was thinking about our future, and looking forward to reminiscing. That's what we do now, 34 years later.
Long Way There by this group is AWESOME!!! Very underrated group.
*_It's a Long Way There..._* - I submit as LRB's best song. Killer guitar work.
Loved this one since I was a little kid in the 70's. It's a Long Way There is a great rocking one of theirs.
I can die today. I have been telling you to listen to LRB for 3 years!!! Thank you so much. I can finally rest! Oh I have another! Alone Again Naturally!!!❤❤❤God love you!!!
I was 22 when this song was first released and was just starting a new relationship. We were together for nearly 5 years but it unfortunately didn't work out. Throughout my life though, every time I hear this song it brings back so many wonderful memories of one of the best times in my life. Thanks so much for reacting to this one.
Long Way There is just incredible. If you want Little River Band it is a must listen!
This band has TONS of GREAT songs! Hit Its A Long Way There, Lonesome Loser, Happy Anniversary, and many more!
This song is about an older couple still together from back in the 40s listening to the Glenn Miller orchestra and Cole Porter tunes. Later in the song he says why are we wasting so much time reminiscing (not a lot of time left). So sweet. So sonically pleasing. You can't go wrong with any of their songs. They are all good.
I so glad you guys are hitting this band. They have so many great songs. "Cool Change, Man On Your Mind, Take it Easy On Me, Lonesome Loser, Night Owls". Just to name a few. These guys just had hit after hit. I loved this song when it came out years ago, but it is really special now that my husband and i have been together for 45 years. We will often sit by a fire or walk and reminisce. In this song it was Glenn Miller who was during the Big Band Era. Little known fact. Along with AC/DC and the Bee Gees, the Little River Band was one of the first Australian groups to hit it big in the US, selling over 25 million records and scoring 13 American Top 40 hits. "Reminiscing" was their biggest, reaching #3. As alway fantastic review.
And I’d add Air Supply to that list
Cool Change for sure. Lots of bands have songs about how hard the music life is, but this one talks about sailing as the singer's antidote. Beautiful harmonies, great imagery.
In the 80’s another Australian soft rock group called Air Supply had seven straight top five pop hits. “Lost in Love” “The One You Love” and “Sweet Dreams” are three of these hits.
Others have said this, but I hope that with multiple comments you guys are more likely to see it.
You must cover “It’s a Long Way There”. But be sure you get the 9 minute long version vs the 4 minute Greatest Hits version.
Before I started watching this, I thought, "Reminiscing . . . that's an A+ song." Halfway through, I thought "I forgot how good LRB was. This is S-tier ear candy."
The radio killed this song for me when it came out. They played it ENDLESSLY. Nice to hear it fresh now, 40+ years later.
I'd almost forgotten this concert! My bf was unhappy I'd forced him to see TLRB. It was a small venue than we usually attended and definitely not a banger. But they sounded so clean and clear... flawless. Later he admitted it was much better than he'd expected.
I forgot how much I love this song. Thanks for the reminder!
Funny comparison to Steely Dan! The band they referenced was the "Glenn Miller Orchestra", a big band from the late 30's. The lush reeds that follow the line "Glenn Miller's Band was better than before" are a nod to the sound of the group, and the trumpet solo at the end is also somewhat reminiscent. Check the video for "Glenn Miller - In the Mood".
Glad you guys got around to hitting some Little River Band. It's easily forgotten how massively popular they were in the US in the late 70s to early 80s. The next song you listen to of theirs should most definitely be "It's A Long Way There", but is HAS to be the long version!
You need to do the long version of Its A Long Way There. 8:43 mins great acoustics and harmonies Fire
Cool Change next, it’s a very beautiful song!!!
I first heard this song driving to take my future wife on our first date in June 1978, and it stuck with me like glue. It will always remind me of that first date and It truly became our "favorite song", and still is today, when we reminisce about our almost 46 years together. Great to see you guys enjoying it!
"Lady" definite banger
Loved the reaction. It's a long way there.
You two aren't old enough to have had the full experience of music bringing back precious memories. It's an amazing feeling when it happens.
They were all over both AM and FM radio in the late 70's/early 80's. Just beautiful. Again, music for grown-ups!
The first single I ever brought - I'm officially an old romantic. This song is so well constructed and the lyrics are just perfect. S to me.
It’s a long way there is 8 minutes of amazing vocals with a great guitar solo. It’s a must!!!!
Little River Band has to be the most forgotten/overlooked "classic rock" band today.
Great use of the word "reminiscing ". S tier all the way. As a kid I recall this was great tune...lyrically too. "We were hand in hand Glenn Miller's band was better than before...." .
Youguys GOTTA hit IT'S A LONG WAY THERE! Studio long version! It's a KILLER tune in EVERY WAY! LRB BABY! 😂❤
I’ve always liked this band but “Cool Change” is my absolute favorite. The song and lyrics are so beautiful. It’s so zen and takes me back to being in my happy place which is by the ocean. I hope you do that song next.
One of my favorite songs EVER
I faked being sick in grade school just to watch a LRB concert on TV. Cable had just come to our town and content was still scarce, so when I read (in the printed cable schedule) that there was one random pre-recorded LRB concert scheduled for the middle of a school day, I immediately came down with a cold. My sister had friend-zoned a teenager with significantly better musical taste than anyone in my immediate circle (thanks & sorry it didn't work out, bro) I was too young to know anything about the band or who was or wasn't the front-man and it didn't matter. No one in my household listened to this kind of music and yet there I was... alone with the TV and our families first ever cable remote. This song, that concert and my one ill gotten day of pre-teen freedom. Best. Day. Ever. (and a blessing to remember.)
I was 7 years old when this song came out and I can tell your for certain, it was my favorite song at the time. Can we bring back lush orchestration and trumpet solos? (And man, wouldn't it be nice to have another minute or so of that trumpet at the end?)
Such a smooth sound that still holds up today. Great choice.
I LOVE THIS SONG!! It's so sweet and old-fashioned in a good way!! Superb lyrics, great vocals, pure romance. I was never a fan of Little River Band before this song, but this song lives in my heart!
Soft rock is lovely too. Lot's of gems hidden in there.
You guys don't always have to be together on every song. That's the beauty of music, it hits some people in a certain way and others in other ways. It would be an easy playlist if everyone felt the exact same way about every song.
as I watched this reaction-i was thinking-"wow. I've been watching these guys for some years now. kind of amazing. how much time has passed? more than I want to believe, but some years now." then seeing your response to this actual song is really moving. you guys continue to grow in terms of music of course, but just as important is how you both continue to grow as people. you both continue to grow as young men. ideas and feelings are open to you now, that you didn't necessarily show us in the beginning of your journey. it is really moving to watch. you have allowed both music and life to teach and inspire you. it is really cool. bravo guys. there is a reason we all have kept watching throughout the years. thanks for posting.
This is a certified buttery smooth banger. 🧈
"S" for sure, agreed with andy! 😎👍 Timeless song!
OMG, Little River Band had some fantastic music. I mean like, turn it up, sing along at the top of your lungs, music. Please do more from this amazing band. Happy that someone suggested them. Wish I had thought to a long time ago!
I've always loved this song. It was used to great effect in the Will Ferrell, film THE OTHER GUYS.
You really need to hear "It's a long way there" one of my all time favorite, great Aussie band
Oh yes!! I was 19 and my 28 year old Puerto Rican girlfriend from Hawaii turned me on to the Little River Band. They are a critical part of my musical history, and I love them to this day, and I'm 66!
So many great songs by these guys. IMO the kings of "Yacht Rock"
I love this song. Check out more songs from Little River band.
Almost a hundred years of music and vocal harmonies in one song.
This has been a favorite for years. I also love Paradise that they did. And many others.
This was on the radio a lot back in the day, but it's been a long time. Nice to hear it again! Always liked "Lonesome Loser" too.
'Lady' or/and 'Cool change' are great follow up songs by the LIttle River Band.
I like their "Curiosity killed the Cat" song. Glenn Shorrock, migrated to Australia from England when Glenn was aged 10. Wonderful melodic voice.
That's moved with his parents. Not migrated. Yes it makes a difference
@@HBFTimmahh Immigrated was probably the best word for my statement
S Tier all the way!!
And he's referencing Glenn Miller's band. It's a World War II era big band. That's why you hear those cool horns come in right after.
Such a beautiful song, and just as fresh as the day it was written. Great reaction. ❤
I marvel at the concept of the song and perfecting the lyrics so they all sound so good to say and hear in your ears, and how clear and fresh the instrumentation. That’s S all day long. I took a random trip once to Charlottesville VA, and as I walked down the main street I heard music, a band playing Little River Band music. I wandered over, and it WAS the LRB! That was nuts hearing them play this song at dusk in the easy wind down of the day, totally a treat. 🍧
I really like the song. Liked it from the start. I had almost forgotten how good it is. Mellow rock with jazz overtones and great vocals. The changes are really nice without being disjoint. Unjaded Steely Dan is a pretty good description. It really does you put you into the Time Passages. Glad you liked it
Cool change is along the same lines. Those 2 are a couple of the best smooth rock ballads of the 70's
Little River Band? 'Cool Change' without a doubt! 😍
