  • @kylerrrr
    @kylerrrr 3 года назад +10

    The biggest reason why the TT is so big, is because it's so fast and the track goes around the whole island for one lap. The speed they get up to whilst going round corners or even getting air is crazy. Sadly though why it is so famous, is because of the amount of accidents and deaths which have happened over the years.

    Some of the earlier footage is of other road races, not the TT. In the Northwest and the Ulster Gp for example they race wheel to wheel like you see in those clips.
    The TT is a time trial, they set off far apart and they're racing the clock more than each other.

      100%
      Any clip where theres 5+ bikes all racing on the road at the same time is Ireland. Its staggered starts at the IoM because its obviously super dangerous to all be starting at the same time. You occasionally get a build up of back markers and front runners in the TT, all meeting on the road after multiple laps, but max you will see is like 3 bikes really close to each other.

    One TT rider said that he knew he'd got the line on a particular corner right when his helmet touched the stone wall.... at 120mph! There's *NO* margin of error on the TT course, it's all public roads (closed for the race) with all the usual street objects protected by hay bales etc. God only knows what would happen if someone's dog got in the way. Sadly, there have been rider fatalities, some famous names are no longer with us.

    I was born on the island and I have seen women as the passenger on the side cars. The passenger has to react to the upcoming corner. If the driver makes a right turn the passenger jumps to the opposite side to keep that side from lifting off the road. If you think the video is nuts you have to be there to fully appreciate the sight and sound. While I lived there I worked at a hotel and an American asked me if I would take him to some good spots and he would pay me. Naturally I agreed. I owned one of the original Mini Cooper s and had it modified . I drove it fast and he was yelling at me to take it easy. When he got to experiences a bike going past him on a public road through a village with stone walls at speeds approaching 190 mph. He decided that everybody on this island had lost their mind and that included me. He was shaking when he got out. I told him that most of the riders do It because they enjoy it. To this day I cannot understand how a human beings mind can react to the changing road conditions at those insane speed. When the rider gets off I imagine the rest of the world is going in slow motion after making decisions that fast for 37 and three quarters of a mile and not just once round the course. I now live in the USA. Thanks John.

    On another note, Isle of man TT is a time trial, racers set off 10 seconds apart. When you see more than 2 or three close together it's probably one of the other Irish road races NW200 for example, or possibly one of the European ones. No biggy but worth mentioning 👍
