- After 2 weeks of use, i noticed at low fan noise and when the laptop is cool.
I can here a slight static noise on the middle to right side of the laptop when im moving the trackpad.
and only when the trackpad is getting moved around, once i stop the noise stops.
I dont know if this is an issue or not, but im just documenting it

sure is
Dang it. I'm trying to find a good option to replace my brand new XPS 15 9500, which has issues with the screen being very dim when waking up. Isn't there a "perfect" laptop out there, without a fruit logo on it? Lol
seriously!!
Mine has this. I think it's the components entering a specific state and then ramping up giving this piezoelectric effect. I thought it normal, as I have another laptop with the same noises.
agreed
RTX2060 Aorus 7kb here, same noise. After many research at this point I am sure that it's just a normal thing on gaming laptops and hardware
yah, it certainly seems to be the case
I've just got my g5 3060 and it makes exactly the same noise. Searching brought me to this Video! With some playing around it seems like it's definitely linked to the CPU power state. Only does it if its turboing, i made a custom power plan with 99% cpu performance as as soon as I apply it the noise stops and the cpu drops out of turbo. Apply high performance profile again and it starts back up. I'm guessing it's VRMs or MOBO power supply components resonating at specific power draw.
Cheers for your thoughts on it :)
Is IT worth to Bye it? It seams the best one under 1k.
@@justus_m.6872 I got it today. On silent mode elden ring work very good with 0 noise.
@@bartholomeo2075 hows the temp for hours of elden ring? Whats your settings for the game?
Yeah, your reviews have pushed me towards the RTX 3060 Asus Tuf F15, especially with the ability to bios mod it to a 95W GPU (GS66 Bios) although I'm waiting on info on whether it disables the USB C port. Can upgrade the terrible stock panel too so I don't see much harm in going for it. Mainly using it for VR with mining on the side, to make up some of the sunken cost as well as general web browsing so the quad-core shouldn't be too much of an issue
Cheers, I'm tempted to get my hands on one of them or atleaast the AMD version
how do you mine with a laptop?
@@amazingamx1255 Undervolt GPU, overclock memory. Same as desktop although you're more power and thermal limited, then I just run Nicehash cause it's easy. I've managed 60 MH/s on a 3070 desktop GPU at 150W (200W total PC power) so I can see this easily doing almost 40 MH/s with some tuning.
@@Amusia727 would running nicehash all the time not destroy the battery?
@@amazingamx1255 I mean if I was running it 24/7 I'd probably disconnect the battery and run it off the charger, with the display turned off, although a battery replacement shouldn't be too difficult... At least compared to phones
I am having coil whine on a Gigabyte laptop as well, installing throttlestop and disabling the CPU turbo cut 90% of the noise.
Good Tip :)
This happens to my RTX2060 Legion 5 untill now, the whistle noise during midnight is driving me crazy
I have heard this MSI gf65 thin running a 3060
Only briefly but did hear it
@@rickstechrepairs I just got a MSI gf63 thin and I got this annoying sound!! So fking annoying, its an expensive computer how can it be so poorly build...
Still you have this problem? I wanna buy legion 5 ryzen7 4800h rtx 2060 16 GB ram but i afraid because of the issue. What do you think?
@@hotpotato4915 not sure, there's room for solutions. E.g. using external cooling pad when gaming, turning off ryzen turbo boost, undervolting gpu, heck even i play at my living room so the noise are suppressed.
Also, the longer you spend your time with the laptop, the coil whine will slowly go.
I'm quoting someone from Legion series unofficial discord channel and he said; "-the right questiom is: who doesn't have coil whine? Some have it quieter and unfortunately some have it loud noises."
@@malfuriouz7717 yes we are giving lots of money and have to suffer with it, nice
I own Lenovo Legion 5 ryzen 5 5600h and rtx 3060 almost a year. When i bought the laptop, everything was fine. Still no coil whine after six months. But it started 2 months ago ... I don't know why, when the sounds of the beginning did not sound. I think it started after BIOS update, do you think that would be because BIOS? And what do you say that it started suddenly after such a time. It annoys me a little, but I still love this laptop.
And nice video btw. Keep it up bro...
i wouldnt care too much about the coil whine noise, some Nvidia laptops do it other dont
I have the same issue and i ask the manufacturer and they recommend me to disable CPU - C state in bios .I did and it's over
do you have an intel laptop? what is it?
Awesome
How u did it? I dont see this option im BIOS
Sounds like a fan is rubbing on something 😐
nar i don't believe its that, i wasnt able to capture the exact noise with the camera sorry
@@rickstechrepairs maybe a bearing shot in the fan?
Its the GPU. Its quite common on laptops with beefier hardware. I have the same problem as him, my laptop also has a bit of coil-whine when moving my mouse or plaing games. I have 2 different pitches sounds, one is from the gpu and only whines when something is moving on screen, and the other seems random and might be from the motherboard.
I am having exactly the same issue with an Infinity W5 3080 with the same panel and chassis, along with a lot of stability issues in Windows!
I've considered sending the laptop in as there also seem to be some issues with the ATI Drivers constantly failing to load and my external displays sometimes flashing between different brightness levels. It's super disconcerting these new machines sound like beige boxes from the 90's!
Did you end up exchanging your laptop or going for a different option in the end?
I Sold the Gigabyte G5 i was using and shown in this video, just so i could afford another laptop to review
i did get a MSI GF65 Thin 10UE (10500H / 3060 60w) and it had the same kind of coil wine/noise
But apart from the noise nothing else was effected, like stability or performance
@@rickstechrepairs can I ask how much did it cost for this G5 and GF65 9 months ago?
I have the lenovo legion 5i and have the same issue with a 240hz panel, usually when i'm on a quiet room i can hear it
Look like it's a RTX thing
@Ricks Tech Today i realize that in battery mode the noise gets worse, do you think it could be related to a bad battery? Anyway, it's working fine😅 so i'll try to use normally
I have the same issue with a Strix G17 but only when there's no load. Yeah, no load. When the CPU is idling it makes a very low noise of the similar kind but under load it seems to go away or maybe it's still there but I can't hear it because of the fans. It isn't an issue right?
Curious is the 3050 GPUs are doing this also
I have strix 3080 gpu and gpu makes it whenever it make raytaraced calculation..
@@rickstechrepairsyes I have tuF15 fx506HC it does a small coil whine even in battery mode
I believe mine makes the same noise you are mentioning but mine only does it very randomly (like once every couple of minutes) and and the sound only lasts for like a 1/2 second.
thanks for letting me know
Should i buy this one ?
is the laptop loud?
thanks for posting this video, i have asus tuf a15 laptop and i have coil whine too, very anoying.
Is annoying but with headphones, you won't be hearing it
@@rickstechrepairs yeah headphones block the sound of the coil whine but i dont want to use it every time i use 3d gpu, i didnt hear the coil whine didnt appear sound at the first time i bought this laptop, only after 3 months it suddenly appeared, now i want to change to another laptop brand could u suggest any laptop brand dont have coil whine?
dont have any suggestions of what models dont have coil whine sorry
Same here
I have a Acer Predator triton 300 with 3060. Also makes the noise
Seems a common thing
great video ¿do you test gaming on external monitor? ¿a lot performance loss?
when external only display (internal laptop screen disabled) there is no performance lose
but if you do use the internal display + external monitor there will be a penalty
mine has this issue as well, as a new laptop . after running games for days, then it begins to have noise, mine is i7 10750h
i am having exactly the same with a g15 5510 dell. Tracking pad is cool, but if i use a mouse, i cant handle it: too annoying.
Weird, does the mouse make the noise more frequent with your movements ?
@@rickstechrepairs as long as I am moving, it does the noise. it stops when I stop (zero load on GPU and CPU btw)
Hey Yuri
I have the same problem, did you find the solution?
i'm thinking about returning the notebook to amazon...
@@pedroluna6597 first, i gave it to the tech support and after 2 weeks they said they fixed it. I turned it on and they obviously havent. I refunded my unit, just unusable...

not sure sorry
I've got this on my Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-45-R97Z) the static strange electrical noise appeared when I removed my nVidia drivers with DDU and reinstalled them. The noise starts when GPU is put to load. Should i be worried or is this normal on laptops? I have this laptop like for 3-4 days
Normal, nothing to worry about
I have the same sound you are mentioning in my predator Helios 300 during heavy gaming...
Seems to be a 3000 series things
My Acer predator helios 300, 2021 version with RTX 3060 does this only when playing Rainbow six siege. The static sound comes from the speaker side. Normal usage and with other games no issues. Is that normal? I'm a bit worried cause the laptop is only few days old as runs smooth as butter.
i think it is normal but if unsure consult the place of purchase
I have the same issue to but it’s on another laptop brand but it has the same looks as yours
IV also experienced this with the gf65 thin running the same hardware 10500H/3060
So I'm suspecting it's normal
@@rickstechrepairs I found a way to fix the noise all I did is to switch my laptop’s power mode to “Silent/Eco”
Great
Same laptop, same thing, pretty weird huh?
I would say it's normal for these machines
It's happening to my HP Envy X360 as well. I just bought it and started it and noticed it making a static/electric noise as well near both sides of the keyboard. Pls say I don't have to give it back to repair.
I don't think it needs repairs

Hi my friend, i'm a french student and i'm looking for a laptop for 3D modeling, i know this one is enought powerfull but i'm affraid of the noise ^^'. Is it really very noisy? even for not very extensive use. And for the battery, in intensive use, is it really limited?
Thanks if you anwser to my questions and TY for all the reviews on this laptop !
the coil wine, isn't bad but is noticeable
Battery life is poor
I would suggest a Dell G15 5510, as they have relatively good power to money ratio. You can get one with a RTX 3060 for under £1000 brand new.
The battery life is also quite long for a powerful laptop in its class.
i have the same noise when using blender and moving the cursor it gets worse. I'm currently so much stressed
its sadly an expected noise
@@rickstechrepairs what do you mean by expected noise
Is this noice a significant of something dangerous or I have just to ignore it
Just ignore
I bought new AUS ROG STRIX 3080, it happens while moving the raytraced viewport in 3d software(blender) while its calculating samples it has that sound then after calculation done it suddenly stop and when ı move in viewport it happen again, so its like a sound whenever I pan or zoom
Is there any way to remove it by decreasing the speed of rendering while preventing that sound . I dont know about graphic card settings , so is there a cool and slower low performance mode to prevent it?
i dont know of a way to remove the noise sorry.
I have it to when the power cable is plugged in or when i move the mouse. Now iam thinking about buying Legion 5 pro and sell the G5
im thinking this issue might be 3060's in general and changing brand might not evade the issue
I bought a lenovo legion 5 with 3060, and it has a static tititus like noise when it is charging.
@@kingleopoldii9356 same, but for me it’s not a big deal. Also, what have you done in the congo free state 🤔
@@iihamed711 what PC do you have? I hear the sound immediately after i plug the charger in. And the sound comes from the location around the charging port. Do you have the same?
I now just visit Congo once each winter btw..
@@kingleopoldii9356 Lenovo legion 5 and Ruben 7 5800h rtx 3060 165hz screen. The sound comes from around the centre of the laptop. I think it’s a gpu problem tbh.
This also happens to me and I'm having the same chassis from Eluktronics (N850HK1 model). didn't know how to solve it but I read it's not dangerous.
Quick question does the laptop have a high overall temperature even when idling?
Yah , iv just accept that's the normal for the 3060's
Idle temp I found high, mainly due to loud fan noise while idling

Yes normal

Certainly seems to be wide spread
it happens on my laptop rog 17 too whenever it calculate raytraced things or moving on a 3d realtime viewport
My laptop is making some subtle low volume noise when I open any window on laptop not do anything on that window
Noise stop coming when i do something on that window like typing or scrolling page or playing any video in sleep mode also sound not come

i think its a non issue
Annoying noise, I have it too..
heard it on another 3060 machine so i assume its the GPU doing it
Same noise on HP Pavilion 15 with i7 8th gen and GTX 1050, noise gets louder when plugged in and charging

@@rickstechrepairs i´ve had the same problem when moving my mouse on-screen for a couple of years and my laptop ist still standing strong! :D
How does coil whine has anything to do with lifespan?
I didnt say anything about coil whine, its more about the high temperature that may damage the laptop
Laptops nowadays are good enough to handle the heat, there’s nothing to worry about really.
My 2 week old Razer Blade 17 2022 does the same thing, I'm trying to get a RMA.
it seems to be normal for the RTX series
