FINALLY! A clear explanation of 'leafing' products and applications. Thank you. I've always wondered about the wax. Wonderful presentation. Wish I could afford the 18K. That's beautiful.
Thanks Emma for showing us the options❤
Hi Emma ! I love this technique ! Thank you for showing us how to apply gold leaf ! xo
Thanks! ☺️
thanks for your clear explanation
Yummy! Thank you!!! 🤩🥰💗
Just love this clear explanation. Can I ask you what type of paint you were using at the end?
Yes, I was using acrylic paint. Glad you liked the video ☺️
Good demonstration, thank you! And the painting is so sweet and delicate.
Allow me to say, however, that it’s important to mention to apply a sealant to prevent the imitation leaf from oxidising.
thank you :) yes, I've done quite a few videos on gold leaf so I may have missed out explaining how to seal the leaf on this one. Unless it's over 90% genuine gold leaf, it will need to have a sealant applied to it for longevity x
@@EmmaRave sorry to have mentioned it then, but it was the first I watched.
No worries @@helenai13 😁
Hi Emma, will I need to seal any of these mediums and if so, what would you use.
Yes, you will need to seal the imitation gold leaf. You don't need to seal genuine gold leaf or liquid gold leaf. Check out this link below for how to seal imitation leaf - nancyreyner.com/2017/06/22/prepare-gold-leaf-oil-painting/
I have just added some imitation gold leaf on my painting can I use helmar crystal Kote spray to seal it
I'm sorry I've never used this product before but it looks like it would be okay as it is UV resistant
I love you
Do you have to seal any of the four?
yes - you need to seal the imitation leaf. the others should be fine on their own.
Hi !
Can you use modge podge to apply it ?💖
I don't think I would advise it as gold leaf is really fragile and I'm not sure how it would react to mod lodge. maybe give it a go on a small piece and see how it turns out x
Some brands mention that mod podge or white glue can be used, just apply a thin layer as well. However, while with a special glue/adhesive you need to wait 20/30 minutes before applying the gold leaf, with mod podge/white glue you apply the leaf immediately and wait till it dries to remove the excess. A sealant should be applied (for imitation gold leaf) at the end.
Only by trial and error will we learn:).
Have you tried guild lane liquid gold/gold paint? I havent But the little i can find seems to be good. I have the ”liquid gold leaf” from Plaid, its nice but it shows too much brush strokes, not nice enough for whole background. I like Golden acrylics heavy body gold (fine) the most when it comes to ”normal” iridescent gold paint out of the ones i’ve tried. I am trying to find the perfect gold paint for my backgrounds But I cant find it. I recently saw that Golden acrylics said they recommend their bright gold fluid with their pouring medium gloss for a gold leaf look. The medium makes it shine and level out strokes. Or you can put tape around the edge and Pour it out over the background and it Will get totally smooth, i am thinking about trying it. Om just confused since i like their gold better than their bright gold and it Will get too expensive to try everyone 😅 😂 Yeez
And do you know any gold paint that is good for big backgrounds?
I have seen a video a whole ago Where someone got different end result/textures on the gold leaf, i dont know if it was about How much She burnished it or if She did something else and i dont remember What video it was. Do you know How to get different textures? Also, have you ever used flakes? vonneart uses that in his videos, I dont remember Why he preferred that. Perhaps it shows less brushstrokes from the glue…
I've never used guild lane paints but I've just looked it up and it looks quite good. Yes I agree with you that it's definitely a struggle trying to find gold paint for large background that don't show brush strokes. I'm wondering whether it's not so much about the paint but the way you apply it. If you can sand down a canvas and apply the gold paint using a sponge then this might work better for you.
If you're using gold leaf and you don't want to see lines then I would suggest using flakes but it's tricky to navigate especially with a large painting.
Have you ever used the gold paste/wax that I used in this video? that works quite well.
