Funny enough my friend and I watch Leprechaun and the sequels while getting absolutely shitfaced on St Patrick's day every year and we asked that very question how much was the gold worth? And we more or less figured out how much the 100 gold coins were worth So gold was worth $360.05 an ounce in 1993 so figuring the coins weighed 1 troy ounce a piece so roughly 36 Grand and gotta be honest doesn't feel remotely worth the bullshit of fighting a magical leprechaun to get it
What type of gold are you using as a reference? 24 karat or 14 karat? Anyway, I always thought that the gold is magical and therefore special and therefore worth more. Mayby there is more than it seems or it can duplicate or something.

Yeah, Lep in the Hood is probably the best so bad it's good movie ever made. An absurd premise that's not being taken seriously, but still has a ton of effort being put into it.
I love Warwick David's performance which makes the movie series. The movie spawned many sequels due to a surprise cult hit at theaters for the original and video rentals-sales for the sequels. I think it spawned a series due to being the studio (Trimark)'s biggest hit and being unique at its time (the 1990s).

well, except Leprechaun came out in the early 90s. Leprechaun & Wishmaster were in what I consider to be the bronze age of slasher films with Wishmaster being a personal favorite of mine (which Decker thankfully has already covered, and one series I hope will return with a proper 3rd entry, so we can wash the bad taste of 3 & 4 out of our mouths).
@Adolf Hitler No you are right, most modern horror movies are just forgettable, and I can't remember the last of the slasher genre that was good. Overall I think Virus from 99 was really the end of the era for horror classics, or at least ones with that oldschool vibe with grainy footage and fun practical effects. There's still some good horror movies like Color Out of Space and The Lighthouse from recent but they're definitely few and far between.
just realized how the movie rules were changed in Leprechaun 3. Jennifer got scratched, her dad got bitten but never changed into a Leprechaun.. as the main male character did. Anyways... great review as always. Hope that you're taking time out to relax and recover.

Yes! I'm so glad you'll be doing the whole franchise over the summer! I do enjoy this first one, I agree it has tonal problems though. If you like MST3K and Rifftrax style movie riffs, I highly recommend the Hor-Riff-ic Productions riff of this movie, it's very funny.

I went to a special midnight St Patrick's day screening of this absolutely blasted on Guinness, which is the best possible way to watch this movie as an adult. Jokes aside, I have a genuine love for ol' Leppy boy - an unusual monster, creative (if goofy) gore, and a cast of simple but all relatively likeable main heroes who all live! Fairly unique in the annals of horror I'd say.

The Leprechaun is good stuff and a full classic of horror media. It's full of that early 90's we don't have to explain shit mentality and while the later movies get progressively worse they're still good old fashioned bad movie fun Great to see you up and about Decker my dude. Don't push yourself too hard and make sure you recover.
