Was on ammo dump guard duty in the Army. Sergeant asked what movies we wanted him to rent for us to watch that night. I said Puppet Masters, meaning the alien invasion one. He came back with this. We had a hell of a good time laughing at this delightfully silly movie.
Had a simmilar experience with another movie. Family were having a horror movie night one Halloween, I suggest American Werewolf in London, what my Dad came back with was A Werewolf in England. Shit was B Movie comedy gold and kind of impressive at some points even though it was obviously low budget.
The puppetmaster series is best in the entries where the puppets are fighting Nazis - or demons. They rewrite the backstory so much it gets hard to follow
Yeah I once watched a bunch of them and saw three different origin stories for how they were brought to life. One being a syrum from the brain another was blood magic personally my favorite one was the elixer of life used to make them move in world war 2 nazi germany. Atleast I think thats what it was. It was a different take on the syrum idea only this time it didnt require brain fluid to be made it was made by some other means. Its been awhile since I saw it.
This series, the first 5 movies anyway, have a very special place in my heart. The theme song, particularly. They were a favorite series of my friend and I in high school. We both *loved* Full Moon. I am *so* glad you're doing this. This series deserve a lot more love.
Loved this movie and all of Full Moon movies when I was a kid. The behind the scenes featurettes was what got me into the art of filmmaking. Before that I never knew how movies got made.
Hey man! I've requested this a couple of times now and know you have a plan for MANY summer specials to come! But i would really LOVE to see "THE SUMMER OF DARIO ARGENTO" at some point! All his movies spanning from 1970-1987 which are horror! That's 7 movies in total excluding suspiria which you've already reviewed (LOVED that review by the way, and spiked my interest for this even more!!). Please OH PLEASE let this happen at some point! Even if i have to wait like 10 years before you're able to do this!
This is one of those movies that the cover art is what compelled me to rent it at Blockbuster video and that’s how I got into the franchise as a kid, back in the day that’s how you picked some times when you had no other criteria to go by you couldn’t just Google reviews it was all about the cover
I like how of the course of the series, the puppets go from villains, to antiheroes to hero characters. I also always loved the theme and music from the early ones

And possibly a child molester, but I don’t remember them ever coming flat out and saying that except in the remake, but that don’t count. Jason is definitely antihero capable as he is just get revenge for what happened to him and his mother, at least in his head that is.
@DeckerShado I have an interesting request, Dee Snider's StrangeLand, Robert England is in it, it's a 90s cult movie that I believe deserves more recognition for how much it pushed the boundaries & was ahead of it's time.

pin through the heart was an old school Victorian way of seeing if someone was dead. The idea was that if they were alive the pin would move with their heart beat. Obviously it wasn’t very popular because even if it did prove they were alive, they probably wouldn’t be for long
@@markpugh6808 True. But Decker covers one movie a week at best, copyright strikes and more are battling with the schedule. That can make for a long marathon. And beside that, from 3 onwards the quality becomes more and more non existent with each movie. Even Asylum made better movies and I fear that Decker will not hold up at some point.

My first Puppet master film was pt 2 when Blade killed that couple after he turned out the lights made me afraid to enter a dark room. Then years later me and my brother got to see pt 3 with he puppet master surviving nazi Germany which was the best one out of the entire series and then part four which they get to fight little demons
Aw man, I was half expecting this to roll right into "The SUMMER OF PUPPET MASTEEEEEERRRR!!!" (I mean, it seemed logical to me in the moment, given how many damn sequels there are).
I did like the premise that the puppet weren't evil but the master which is why I like the puppets as good guys in later movies. It was a nice change from the time worn evil toys trope. I do wonder how much of a fan o this movie was the writer of Vibes because there are a few bits that seem familiar

Okay, I saw this when I was 12 back in 1990, and I have to say this was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Likewise, you can say what you want but they actually did do an amazing job at making an actually entertaining horror movie with such a limited budget ( a reported $400,000 ). Which, seeing as there have been films that cost 2 to 3 million dollars to make that aren't even half as good as this... Yeah, I honestly love this movie. Now go review the 1982 "Cat People" already...

I have this entire franchise (all 12 movies, including the spin-off film Blade:The Iron Cross) on HD Blu-Ray (all digitally restored and remastered) in a limited edition collectible trunk (made to look like André Toulon's trunk from the movies). Me and my girlfriend watched the entire series recently (a re-watch for me and a 1st time watch for her). She liked most of the films and a few of the puppets are her favorites (they are Blade, Jester, Tunneler, Pinhead & Six-Shooter...she really doesn't like Leach Woman though 😝). She (as well as I) can't wait for the upcoming spin-off film 'Doctor Death' (based off of the puppets from Retro Puppet Master - the 7th film in the series)....

And even tho they dont look threatening i just assumed they have supernatural traits so since hes the strongman puppet his punch is probably the force of an average or above average man.
I watched this with my baby girl (age nine) and she laughed and said "how fake. You can tell it's fake." I told her not to judge and listen to the story line. She rolled her eyes and called me a weirdo 😂

Still hard to believe this series has continued to thrive through sequels by the David DeCoteau, the director of *A Talking Cat!?!* I do agree the movie is rough in many regards, but the puppets are still very creative, with their setting and premise at a creepy rundown hotel being very reminiscent of The Shining. Full Moon hasn't disappointed me yet after watching flicks like Subspecies, Doctor Mordrid, Dragonworld, and The Gingeread Man, feeling like the more successful mockbuster company than the Asylum. Great review, Decker✌😁

They take the dog with them to space, where the pomeranian uses Ancient Egyptian Magic to give life to some space junk and wreak havoc on the ship.
I remember being a kid and having to sneak to watch this movie at my aunt's house she thought it would be to scary for me and my cousin LOL we loved it and wanted the puppets great reviews Decker your the best on RUclips keep up the great work brother
The 2nd Puppetmaster freaked me out as a kid. Watching it now, and seeing all the cable they used to move the puppets, or in some cases just flat out throw them at actors. The imagination of a child.

This series is honestly a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. They aren't the best but they have their own kind of charm.

I'd say that this is one of the better movies from Full Moon, but it's still more hilarious than scary.

I'd kinda like to see that idea with Jason Voorhees. You can't make Freddy or Michael a hero. Jason is sympathetic & he kind of was the hero in FvJ.

Awesome. When you want to cover entry in the franchise it will be late 2023 until you finish. There are a lot of entries, spin offs and remakes.
