My father and I even talked to Ed once when we seen him parking it at our local mall & we couldn’t resist checking it out, he was such an awesome funny guy! I always wondered what happened to this car
I'd be very interested in the details of the legal battle, especially if he got any compensation for the damages and the exact reason why the police had taken the car away in the first place. I don't know much about corruption and the legal system in the US but from European's perspective that just seems outrageous (or is there more to the story than you've told us?) Would love a follow up to this. Greetings from Germany
Exactly - depreciated value, loss of use, etc, etc...However, I bet the cops "took" the car under Civil Asset Forfeiture, where law enforcement can allege a crime, maybe not even ultimately charge you, but they get a court to forfeit your assets and when forced to return them, they do so without compensation... Small town cops do this, hold "secret" auctions and get their friends to buy your stuff for $0.01s on the dollar to create an arms-length transaction, but your assets end up in the garages of these crooked cops...
In 'Murica we hire bottom of the barrel, rejects from other sectors as pigs. Long sad history of it. Maybe affluent white folks can see pigs are just a government sanctioned gang really. Shakedowns (bs tickets), harassment and shenanigans like this. I feel happy every time its reported a pigs dies in the line of duty.
I love hearing stories about people like this. One of the most wild dudes I've ever met was a contract helicopter pilot we had for our helitack crew for a while. Guy was also a Vietnam vet, and had been working fire ever since he got out of the service. He rigged stadium speakers to the outside of his ship and would blast AC DC from them mid flight, walked around helibase with no shirt, jorts, and sandals. One time he wrapped his bucket around a tree and wrecked his ship, when all of our crew went to visit him in the hospital he said "it's all part of the job boys," Now he's retired and living it up at some golf place in Florida. Pretty grateful to have been able to work with a guy like that.

Because corrupt cops tend to have no issues harassing you for trying. One cop (female) got another cop into trouble by not keeping a secret or such and she was harassed. The internal investigation even found that other cops had searched her in the database to find her address and such. They ended up having to move her to another district. Couldn’t find a source though because of cops and harassed being so commonplace now a days.

@@noahbenavidez3315 yeah it’s coming to light yet it’s still happening all the time... these corrupt pos steal from people they are supposed to help
Wow that’s crazy!, I live on the big island of hawaii all my life, I always seen this car on the road, parked at grocery stores & car shows , heard a lot of local stories/rumors about it with the police & how he got it.
I don't know much about corruption and the legal system in the US but from European's perspective that just seems outrageous (or is there more to the story than you've told us?)
Would love a follow up to this.

@@stevedavies1261 CAF needs to end immediately. Legalized robbery
This is why people don’t like cops
I love hearing stories about people like this. One of the most wild dudes I've ever met was a contract helicopter pilot we had for our helitack crew for a while. Guy was also a Vietnam vet, and had been working fire ever since he got out of the service. He rigged stadium speakers to the outside of his ship and would blast AC DC from them mid flight, walked around helibase with no shirt, jorts, and sandals. One time he wrapped his bucket around a tree and wrecked his ship, when all of our crew went to visit him in the hospital he said "it's all part of the job boys,"
Now he's retired and living it up at some golf place in Florida. Pretty grateful to have been able to work with a guy like that.
Wow! this was an unexpected story to pop up out of nowhere!
I mean.. Ed has been saying Patrick would be coming on for months to tell some of his stories. The video came out at 10am like normal…. How unexpected is this actually?
How great is that, to get a car you love, then unexpectedly get to find out this amazing backstory to it and now you love it even more! Love this! Great story telling btw, it would make a fun movie! 😉
I hope Ed is up there in the sky ripping it in another white Ford GT
Honestly the best story I've heard on the channel. This one was honestly amazing. Sad towards the end, but it's dope overall.
damn that NASA trim looked insanely good 9:48
It probably wouldn't have worked on anything but white, too.
Holy ****. I'm from hawaii on the big island.. I just realized I've seen this ford GT growing up in my life. I've seen it so much times. This is the GT. This is what got me in to the love of the automotive world. The sound of it the looks. I can't not believe it. If I could find those photos on it I would. First time seeing it was at a hotel with SLR McLaren, lambos and vipers and a couple other super cars. This is mind blowing
Fact check me as much as you want. The hotel is called Sheraton kona resort and spa in Kailua-kona, HI. This had to been 06-07 probably not far after he received it
This is an amazing wholesome video! I love the story behind the ford gt
Saleen out of Troy MI, built the GT for Ford. So that's where they shipped it. I was on the build team back in 04 to 07 it was awesome!
This Ed sounds like the coolest most unique guy ever, 5 foot Chinese man fights for the US in Vietnam, and is proud of old american cars and general american culture. I dont like to get political or whatever but it just shows it isnt what you look like but how you act that matters. Judging a book by its cover sometimes unravels itself as you turn the pages.
I don't see how that was political at all. In fact, I would say it's closer to the opposite.
The story made me cry the passion of a car owner and being passed in the memory of Well known car owners
most amazing part of this story is how a newly wealthy mechanic is able to buy a brand new Ford GT from the dealer. now you need a personal invitation and some kind of pact with the devil to do so.
I disagree, the most amazing part of this story is the guy driving a civic fast enough to almost run a ford gt off the road
@@LCaddyStudios he tried to run it off the road when he made a 180 and started going the oposite direction. highways there are usually two way roads.
well.. apparently he did lose a few fingers to pay for it...
@@eagl3007 but the fact remains, it’s a Ford GT, he didn’t need to drive fast for too long to get away
Ed sounds like a genuine and corky guy. He would be proud that the car is in your hands.
Great lineage story Patrick! BTW, I’m a proud owner of one of your LOTR gold rings. Ordered back at the beginning of Covid lockdown, took me several months to get, but very happy I got “the one to rule them all” in the darkness. One of my doctors saw it one day and went nuts for it, lol.
I love this story. Great to see a real owner, not only own it, but drive it and even document it's life...
Man this is some backstory,
Awesome story Patrick
Got my 2005 GTX-1 up to 175 in 4th at 4,500 rpm. Lots more in it, BUT the front end started a little shake. What fun!
A year and a half and 100k to get your car back
Great lawyer…
And then shipping back to Ford for a factory re$toration.
The time part of it is just how the legal system works, you can delay a lawsuit against you a year or longer easily.
beautiful story... Ed loved his car and got his use of it... what cars are made for. Sometimes is very sad to just see cars sit around in storage and never see open road
Incredible story! Take good care of her
Love stories like this of people who really take care of their cars
"why would I buy a boring old 2005 ford GT" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Who even says something like that?
Thats prob what the insurance company thought. LOL Just an old and tired Ford.
If you’re a Ford GT fan, and have never seen the old school “Joe’s Ford GT” from IMV films, it’s what made me fall in love with these cars
One of my favorite stories so far.
I saw this car in Honolulu when I was a kid. It was only passing by for a split second but I’ll never forget it.
what a Legend ed is.... trades a couple of fingers for a 05 gt LOL
Edit: 13:34 may this guy rest in peace. he got to enjoy this amazing car to the fullest as it seems :)
"Rest in peace", not piece, if you want to fix that. (Also "Legend")...
@@paulbelanger7383 oh thank you! still learning :)
One of the best stories I've seen on this channel.
"Lost a couple of finger, no big deal"..... we have very different definitions of "no big deal."
No big deal for a guy who went to kick ass in Vietnam
@@robertdivany1627 Roger, and tracking all; zero disrespect intended, just don't want anyone to think any amount of money can replace your health. That being said, that man led an AWESOME life and he did it they way he wanted to. If we can all be that happy at the end "sign me up."
I don't know for a like 3 million dollar payout I wouldn't mind losing a few fingers
I remember when these were $120,000. My uncle worked in Shipping & Receiving I also got a tour of the plant (was it Royal Oak) been a long time as I was looking for work and that Uncle put my name in to handle the IT work. I didn't get the job or they didn't hire but it was fun seeing them being hand made. I also remember the stories of how there were so many issues with the engine cooling system. They flew a team of Ford mechanics out to Jay Leno so he wouldn't trash talk Ford...LOL Funny how these are now worth so much.
I feel like that 1911 might have made an appearance earlier in the story. Still a very strange story.
He's an aircraft mechanic, and documentation is such a huge part of our work. I had to chuckle at the safety wire on the oil drain plug.
Really cool story, sucks he had to deal with all that crap with the cops.
Why didn’t the original owner just sue the police
Because corrupt cops tend to have no issues harassing you for trying. One cop (female) got another cop into trouble by not keeping a secret or such and she was harassed. The internal investigation even found that other cops had searched her in the database to find her address and such. They ended up having to move her to another district. Couldn’t find a source though because of cops and harassed being so commonplace now a days.
This is 100% an ultimate dream car of mine. Not just the Ford GT, but this one specifically. I can only hope I'm in the right position in the right time to take ownership of this extraordinary vehicle and continue to add to it's legendary story. God willing. I'm putting it here in writing.
Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac!) lives in Maui and drives a supercar (Ferrari?) and tells stories online about numerous high speed jaunts around the island! So Ed was not alone in his Hawaiian N4S!!!
Great story. Ed seemed like a man that loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Very cool.
I shit you not this happened to me in Oahu when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor. But I was driving a foxbody and I wàs chased back to base. Took forever to get my car back. It was in 2006
real sad what happened to the first owner, you could tell he just loved the car until the end.
Love your channel keep up the good work
Now that is a Vin Wiki story, the people the cars and how they become intertwined
these are the stories I sub to this channel for. awesome! RIP Ed, hope you're driving a hot rod Ford down golden paved roads!
$100K to get HIS own car back??? That's it!?!?! No jail time or public hangings of the criminals who stole his car!?!?!
These are the best stories!!!
Might be my favorite VINWiki video
Wow this was such an amazing story
Really glad to hear someone driving and enjoying the car
Not really sure how a stock civic kept up with a Ford GT during a chase as he was fearing for his life? There’s a lot of holes in the story
I wondered the same thing but thought maybe it was on a stretch of road where the GT couldn't show its power, haha!
Big Island is long but curvy is lots of places, with no lights kind of road. You don't wanna go too fast.
Could be a mile behind but you'll see the lights. It's kind of like the turtle and the hare.
That's absolutely disgusting what them cops did.
"Some local hippies or someone comes up..." lol, yea, hippies
Puna area. Serious, lot's of "hippies" I wouldn't have believed it until I visited. And I've lived in Hawaii my whole life.
@@mrbkkt1 Been living in Puna for a long time, beautiful place.
This car should get a full documentry on this channel, very seldom you actually have this detail of a story for a car since initial purchase
There has to be more to this story. I’m not buying the “cops impounded the car and then started using it for whatever they wanted” story.
True
Up there on my list of favourite VINWIKI stories 👍
Ah yes.. *_random hippies_* trying to commit vehicular manslaughter out of the blue.. I feel like you weren't told the entiiiire story, lol
To anyone who says cars don't have a soul.... tell them this story. This car is ED. Owned from new until his passing, sharing an amazing journey together... through this story, this car will have a soul forever.
The FordGT is just so fabulous
Love it just laying underneath the car appreciating the engineering that went into this car
That’s a rather interesting title
I drove through Detroit a few months ago. A smoking blone who was mid 50s plus got out and fueled it. It was part orange and brand new. It was coolest car I have seen in person.
As soon as that car pulled in, the cop thought, "Cha-CHING!"
"Boring old 2005 GT' is a crazy statement
Yayy Patrick Adair
Very cool to find something like this with a colorful history!
So the Hawaii police are also car thief. Interesting. I wonder if he manage to get back his 1911?
Thanks for sharing this story!
Big up stradman!
Although the backstory was a bit sad it is nice to see that the car now and still has a loving owner to take good care of it!
What a nice guy... you coukd tell the story touched him.
Very cool story. Just can't help but find it funny how he said it's scary to drive the car at 130mph. I've done a 500km trip at 110-120mph in one sitting with my E36 316i and it was chill.
I don't care what the prospectors say, I think this GT is worth *more* because of its storied and documented history. RIP Ed, glad you got to enjoy the car till the end
I’m literally driving my 08 Camry listening to this story and thinking that is so cool. One day when I buy a brand new car I will start a car diary too
ED, rest in peace Patriot.
By far the best Vin wiki story ever!
For something to become a really great story, some thing at some point needs to go very very bad. Like the police stealing your car.
Thank you for the story, all of you!
Normally i am not a big fan of the ford gt..
But this is a Ford gt, that i respect.
Those cops were a real life version of Ferris bueller’s valet drivers
Hehe!
It's always great to hear stories about people using actually using their car.
What a horrible story to hear ... unreal that the police were able to do something like that without really any consequences to them for doing so
My love for Ford GTs definitely grew after this video and all those amazing pictures
