As someone who only uses his two fingers, would you recommend getting used to using the thumb as well or would i be fine to just continue to use only 2 fingers?
That is one hand position for maximum back end motion but you can go anywhere from completely behind the ball to the handshake completely in the side of the ball. Wherever you position your hand you should follow through straight through not rotate your hand to the right that is completely old school as the bowling balls now a days need no help really in hooking that hard anymore. I have a 530 rev rate and can roll the ball almost completely straight or if on the side of the ball have a violent left turn.
Anyone know if using two fingers to bowl requires 2 bigger holes? Or is correct? For me when spinning it with the 2 fingers they get stuck sometimes and my inserts are kind of tight. Im thinking of removing the inserts and having more space for my 2 fingers to help me allow to rev/spin the ball more without pain.
I started bowling like this 12 games ago (3 sessions of 4 games) and I'm already hitting my average again, more control than 1 handed and also have more hook, never could figure out 1 handed with no thumb so for the past year or 2 I've kind of hit a wall at the 140 average mark, didn't take long to adjust and last game today I figured out where I need to throw for a consistent strike, (actually the same line shown at 0:30, just I'm left handed so it's mirrored) all I need to do is work on my consistency so I can hit that perfect strike line and work on relearning spares now that I have more RPM
Moving the hand around the ball from 6-12 is a less efficient manner of hooking the ball. I believe it is better to keep the hand up the back of the ball, and let the fingers in the ball just come up around it. It creates less strain, produces more revs, and, at least in my experience, is more repeatable, and makes you less likely to pull the ball. I will say though that this video is good, and it provides an easy, step-by-step explanation, in order, of what you are looking to do, and is pretty clear and straightforward, which is honestly what is more helpful to the average bowler in my opinion. Keep up the content 🎳 🎉 😃
You should clarify that during the close-up shots of the ball you are using a plastic house ball, which will hook slightly but not much, and then during the strike shot you are using a reactive resin ball, which will hook a lot. Also, the release you are showing is basically a two-handed release. There is also a version known as a one handed thumbless release, with the difference being that the left hand doesn’t stay on the ball during the backswing. - Bronze coach
I learned the second way actually. I’ve never been able to backspin lol. Only hook, now given I can hook a ball to any pin down the lane. Even lefty hook with my right hand. But not straight shots. I wish. But why learn something at the risk of my hooks.
@@danielavalos7671 if you can hook the ball, throwing straight shots when you want to is dead easy. Simply bring your fingers straight up the back of the ball during the release.
The way I bowl is kind of like a reversed hold on the ball I turn the ball I put just my two fingers in, and then I try to spin it right as I throw it, and normally towards the opposite side of whatever way I’m trying to get the ball to go. If I was trying to hit the pins on the left I will throw it in as far to the right as I can, Vice versa.
When I discovered this technique on my own (pre internet) I would line up my right foot at the next dot to the right of the middle. Instead of the curve shown in the video going all the way from left side - then all the way to the right - then hooking back toward center pin, I had used an alternate path. With my right root aligned between center and the first dot right of center I would throw the ball so it would then hug the right gutter and come back at the pins right where my foot was aligned. As a lackadaisical teenager I would consistently bowl 220-280 with this technique. Fun fact: The technique also works to bowl the ball from behind you between two legs.
Use a heavier ball. Using this technique can be hard to control with high ball speeds. I also get way more revs anyway in the 11-14 mph range and still hit with power

Bringing your habd ovwr the top and pushing out on your finers will give tops spin. Less effective curve. You should still be in a near habd shake position similar but slightly more on to then a traditional 3 finger bowler
At 00:58 he says to use finger tips. This is inaccurate. You can use more finger than that and many of us do. You will be able to hold the ball better and control it more since you do not have the thumb to help. Just be sure to experiment with your finger position and find what works for you. I have bowled with two fingers since I broke my thumb in the 7th grade. I use a standard finger position. I'm much more consistent using my fingers than only using finger tips.
never come out on top of the ball, Belmo never does that. you rotate your hand and lift from 4:00 up. not spin the ball. you'll get a stronger pin reaction if you lift from 4;00
I've been bowling this way since I was 12 but the way you're talking about doing it seems all wrong to me a little bit more finger in there you got more stability
2 fingers no thumb is the easiest way to hook the ball and also the most inconsistent. I say that as someone who bowled 2 finger no thumb before switching to 2 finger with thumb and then 2 handed without thumb. I got to a point where it was very hard to progress and especially playing on sport shots it is an awful way to throw the ball sometimes. But if you're out there to just have fun then this is the easiest way to hook it
You 100% dont want to spin the ball from 6 to 12. More like from 6 to a handshake position. Also, griping the ball to your second knuckles allows more control and power
I'm not a coach but I know from experience I bowled exactly like this for months. But as soon as you buy a ball it will hook straight in the gutter. I recently got a raw hammer and I had to throw it straight on a house pattern. This is ultimately detrimental to to your future bowling in leagues and tournaments and whatnot
Any new equipment will take time to adjust to and all balls are not created the same. Your ball may not be a good match for the particular combination of your local house pattern and your game. A different layout or surface on the ball may be needed to give you the shape you're looking for. You may also need to adjust your release or your alignment and targeting to get the ball to the right breakpoint.
i taught myself how to hook, and after bowling constantly for about 3 months my highest bowl is 243, it was like 120😭 but i just never could use 3 fingers
Need to make sure the forward motion is still greater then the spin you put on it. I used to play and i would go ka me ha me ha when I thew it. Lol have to have fun you know.
This is how I've been bowling for years. People have told me this is the wrong way and it bothers me, what do you think about people saying that this is the wrong way to bowl.
Step 6 should be how to break the tendons in your ring finger. Sure, in a 9 lb bowl you won't feel it, but throw a 15lb a few times and you will be scrambling to find painkillers to get the swelling down.
I am a no thumb bowler and was intrigued when I saw this on my RUclips suggested videos. These tips are absolute garbage. I guess if you saved face by saying these tips are "for beginners who have no knowledge of bowling" because anyone with ANY knowledge of bowling knows better than to follow these steps.
whats something that the video is wrong about so I can learn more about how to do it properly. besides having ur hand spin part be fully on top. I think that's only supposed to be where ur hand ends up on the right side of the ball
as a bowler this offends me truly this is how 90% of house bowlers I've seen try to hook the ball and you should not have your arm bent the whole time.
Right!! This guy is retarted!! He doesn’t know how to bowl and he looks like he just had an epiphany to go out and bowl one night, got drunk and made a retarted ass video on a topic he doesn’t know shit on!!
@@ceoofcheeks5881 its not two handed since he is only using one hand for the swing till the release, two handed bowling keep their hands on the ball till the release. So the way the guy throws it like is like Tom Daughtery, which is a pba pro that uses a two finger delivery for a strike ball.
You're not walking down the lane. That is unless you want to eat shit when you hit the oil on the actual lane. It's also not called a "walkway". The area the bowler stands on is called the "approach". The lane is the area past the foul line and is where the ball rolls. Lastly, you are not supposed to rotate your hand the way you described. For best results, your hand should stay behind the ball and come up the side of the ball. This is all using house equipment of course. For even better results, get your own stuff. I use all 3 fingers and can get more hook than what you can with a house ball. Come on man. If you're going to teach people, at least learn proper terminology and technique (even with house equipment). This video wasn't all bad, but definitely needs improvement. Just my humble opinion.
jonogunn that depends greatly on a number of factors. To try to make it simple, if you are a right handed bowler, you can start by targeting the third arrow from the right, and then take note of whether your ball misses the 1-3 (pins) pocket to the left or to the right.. if it misses to the left, then move your feet to the left… If you miss to the right, move your feet to the right. How much you move depends on how much you missed, for every pin width that you miss move your feet three boards, and keep your target the same. Bear in mind, this is a very simplified answer.
Seth Miles Gonna injure yourself doing it this way... this is what people do when they don’t know how to properly do it and just want to hook like crazy so they yank at it.
Worst explanation how to throw with 2 fingers (no thumb), this is coming from someone who has done this for over 15 years. Bowling ball in video is by far the worst way to demonstrate it all, finger holes are way too big for your fingers, gotta use a house ball that has smaller holes or use a ball custom drilled for you.
I can’t believe this is even real. PLEASE view this as 100% “entertainment” rather than any mechanics. This HAS to be a JOKE. HAS TO BE and from that perspective...this is a funny ass troll video

Bringing your habd ovwr the top and pushing out on your finers will give tops spin. Less effective curve. You should still be in a near habd shake position similar but slightly more on to then a traditional 3 finger bowler
Turning the ball from 6 to 12 o'clock. Are you trying to make someone to crack their bone? You're supposed to flick it or lift it in a different axis.
He himself knows not to actually follow step 6 when he throws it lmao
used a reactive ball to this tutorial and my ball hooked the whole lane lol
I just bowled my first 300 game because of this video.
Before watching this I was lucky to even bowl a 120 game.
Wowo a perfect game nice👍
No you didn't
@@nascarandbowlingfan3888 prove it!
I actually have shot a 300
I did this today, got 4 strikes in a row
hambone
Says for his english class and not to be taken seriously in the comments. FYI
Bro I was looking for a tutorial about 2 finger bowling not a video about how to bowl for the first time
I am going to try this my tumb gets so sore and I want to hook like crazy
I was born without a knuckle in my right thumb so this is my only option
I'm not putting my thumb in that contraption esp if I'm drinking
I have a size 8 bowling ball and it's too heavy for me do I need to go down a size or start lifting weight to not make my ball to be heavy
never come out on top of the ball, Belmo never does that. you rotate your hand and lift from 4:00 up. not spin the ball. you'll get a stronger pin reaction if you lift from 4;00
Can you clarify a bit on what you mean by this? I am new to bowling and just starting to learn how to hook.
I've been bowling this way since I was 12 but the way you're talking about doing it seems all wrong to me a little bit more finger in there you got more stability
Oops, I missed the entire video because I WAS ASLEEP!!!!
But if you're out there to just have fun then this is the easiest way to hook it
Nice video.
You 100% dont want to spin the ball from 6 to 12. More like from 6 to a handshake position. Also, griping the ball to your second knuckles allows more control and power
4:40 wrong. You don’t want a 3-9 o clock spin. 4-10 o clock spin is the money shot
That actually was helpful. Thank you. Tom Daugherty bowls just like that. I love his style of bowling.
5:21 seriously??
It’s funny how he said it’s a difficult task, to master it yes but just to do it no
I'm not a coach but I know from experience I bowled exactly like this for months.
Same exact thing happened to me when I switched but u just have to adjust and it'll come back
Damn I need a bowling alley.?
i taught myself how to hook, and after bowling constantly for about 3 months my highest bowl is 243, it was like 120😭 but i just never could use 3 fingers
Need to make sure the forward motion is still greater then the spin you put on it. I used to play and i would go ka me ha me ha when I thew it. Lol have to have fun you know.
Guys I have been bowling for a long time and trust me that this guy can't bowl and don't listen to him
Who’s still here in 2022 🙋🏻♀️
Damn near yanked my thumb off bowling with my thumb, only kiddie throws for me now 😮
This is how I've been bowling for years. People have told me this is the wrong way and it bothers me, what do you think about people saying that this is the wrong way to bowl.
If it works for you, go for it!
Gr8🔥🔥
That's not the right way to hook the ball. Your fingers shouldnt come around the ball, the ball should roll off of your hand diagonally.
@Alteric Racing actually no. The bowl should spin off the side of your hand. The wrist snap is what provides the rotation.
A nice way to break your middle finger
Step 6 should be how to break the tendons in your ring finger. Sure, in a 9 lb bowl you won't feel it, but throw a 15lb a few times and you will be scrambling to find painkillers to get the swelling down.
I am a no thumb bowler and was intrigued when I saw this on my RUclips suggested videos. These tips are absolute garbage. I guess if you saved face by saying these tips are "for beginners who have no knowledge of bowling" because anyone with ANY knowledge of bowling knows better than to follow these steps.
Yep
whats something that the video is wrong about so I can learn more about how to do it properly. besides having ur hand spin part be fully on top. I think that's only supposed to be where ur hand ends up on the right side of the ball
Thank you
I need to hold the ball? I though i was supposed to kick it.
No negativity though :D
God bless everyone and have a good day,..
as a bowler this offends me truly
this is how 90% of house bowlers I've seen try to hook the ball and you should not have your arm bent the whole time.
Right!! This guy is retarted!! He doesn’t know how to bowl and he looks like he just had an epiphany to go out and bowl one night, got drunk and made a retarted ass video on a topic he doesn’t know shit on!!
Easy-to-use video! Can't wait to master the curve on this throw
this is the funniest video ever. dont throw the ball in the air youll hurt your feet lol
just read the description lol. Im sure you did well on the assignment! nice job
Wow i didnt know ur supposed to use the holes
Also it’s called thumbless bowling
Keno O. It’s called two-handed or Belmo style
Spencer Goodell I’m talking about how he called it two finger bowling.
@@ceoofcheeks5881 its not two handed since he is only using one hand for the swing till the release, two handed bowling keep their hands on the ball till the release. So the way the guy throws it like is like Tom Daughtery, which is a pba pro that uses a two finger delivery for a strike ball.
I play with both hands, using two fingers.
Curving a Bowling ball with 2 fingers is alot easier without thumb in my opinion
very helpful
Thank you for the details! Loved it!
Hes bowling two handed, but technically it's a one handed shot
Thats how i bowl. I let go with my other hand
@@iPeanutJelly really all he did was hold the ball with both his hands then did a one handed release
Its a two handed approach but a one handed release
@@mit0373 that's basically what I said in the second comment
@@Munzo28 my bad i didn't read that
Hope u do a second part with where to aim on the floor and stuff
jonogunn that depends greatly on a number of factors.
You should watch a different video. This person looks like a beginner himself that just got into bowling.
Seth Miles Gonna injure yourself doing it this way... this is what people do when they don’t know how to properly do it and just want to hook like crazy so they yank at it.
Nice
What if ur left handed tho 🤣
Did i really waste my time watching this.... yes.
Mark Benoit no bs
thanks...good for beginner 👍👍👍

is this trolling video?
wheres the throwing with the house ball... its hard to hook a house ball even with 2 hand bowling technic... hahaha
Dia lupaaa rsanya
I haven’t got my own ball so I use house balls and I can hook but I use 1 hand
I have enough revs to throw a house ball from the 5 arrow to the 10th board i think, but i dont use houseballs anymore:p
Those are Twister Pins
Worst explanation how to throw with 2 fingers (no thumb), this is coming from someone who has done this for over 15 years. Bowling ball in video is by far the worst way to demonstrate it all, finger holes are way too big for your fingers, gotta use a house ball that has smaller holes or use a ball custom drilled for you.
I try it it not very easy
Im so scared rn i have no idea about bowling and i gooma play bowling tomorrow woth my friends😣😣😣😣
Good video!
I can’t believe this is even real. PLEASE view this as 100% “entertainment” rather than any mechanics. This HAS to be a JOKE. HAS TO BE and from that perspective...this is a funny ass troll video
Missed a step...you keep your left hand on the ball to keep it steady and in place till the point of release otherwise the chances of you either dropping the ball or just throwing it into the gutter and very likely (I'm a two handed bowler)
Thank you cause I bow in a 11-12 league and I kinda know how to hook a ball
For the past 5 years i’ve just been a hobby bowler, bowling around 2 times a year with friends. I have Always had my middle finger in the lower hole and ring and pointer finger in the other 2. Never knew that using your Thumb was a thing and i Always that you had to out your fingers all the way down or the wholes where too small
The walkway??!?...OMG
