@@timothyjohnson512 Agreed, heck could even make him unique to skunks, in that he was born without a scent gland.
Shunned by his fellow skunks for not smelling right, while other characters ASSUME he stinks only because he's a skunk.
With Penelope being the only one to give him a chance when she is left alone with him.
Maybe she avoids him like others, but doesn't get a chance to get an actual whiff of him.
Or because he owns, lets say a fancy cheese shop selling stinky cheese. Which ironically Penelope likes eating that kind of cheese, hence why she would be there at first. *But tries to leave when she sees a skunk is working there*
Turning it from a lesson on how NOT to pursue women to, a lesson about judging a person by their color.

One of two things is going to happen. David Zaslav is going to have to go, or we’re going to have a repeat of what happened with Hanna Barbera in the 1970s where it’s going to be spin-offs and cheap celebrity cartoons. If that happens, it’s likely going to be indie creators like Vivziepop who end up saving the animation industry.

I personally like both the Animaniacs reboot and Tiny Toons Looneyversity. Though I do agree with Tiny Toons Looney is better than the Animaniacs reboot probably because the background characters weren’t overly drawn and they brought back most of the main characters. In the Animaniacs reboot, only Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky, Brain, Dr. Scratchinsniff and Slappy for only one episode. Not to mention Dot acting more like Yakko. And Wakko being simplified. However the what makes me like the Animaniacs reboot is that the Warners are more like a family and the different art style for some episodes. About the ending, I feel bad for the writers. They couldn’t think of an ending because Hulu said out of nowhere that the last season will only have 10 episodes.

  • @rwinger2481
    @rwinger2481 10 месяцев назад +6

I’m starting to believe that Ann Sarnoff, former WB CEO or some executive at HBO Max doesn’t want Pepé Le Pew to be used and it is probably the first time a corporate company has ever blacklisted a cartoon character to this degree.
But that is not true anymore since David Zaslav probably reversed the ban and the pushback from fans who supported the character don’t care about the controversies anyway. They should hire writers who don’t care if the character is problematic and just make him fit whatever the role suits him for.

As someone who also really enjoyed the reboot, this is the least braindead take on Looniversity I've seen so far. It's okay for people to have their own opinions, but seeing how many focus on non-issues within the continuity of a show that's doing its own thing is a bit frustrating. Every point was extremely solid and really well made and I totally agree with all of them. The idea you came up with for Pepé is genius as well.

I gotta admit, I was kinda thrown off when they announced the twin sibling bunny aspect in this incarnation of the show (like, you won't see them pulling this change for Bugs and Lola or Porky and Petunia; obviously, they can't do that to Penelope and Pepe because they're not even the same species).
But, hey, even if it's different, they could make it work. It's all about the execution that matters. As long as it's a feel-good romp that doesn't have to be TOO CYNICAL. Kinda sick of that meta, vitriolic mindset lately. I get enough of negativity from the news. (The fact they made the pink tax fraud-committing, kitten-abusing sociopath bird likeable threw me for a loop)

It's incredibly hypocritical that they banned Pepe but allowed Fifi to stay in.
It's clearly just because she's a girl. I recall the "Animaniacs" reboot patted itself on the back for not having Yakko and Wakko do the "Hello Nurse" gag anymore, but still allowed Dot to act like that after guys.
As for the show itself, I agree that it's better than the "Animaniacs" reboot for the same reason you brought up: it's not cynical and gross like the "Animaniacs" reboot.

Honestly if I were a writer I think I would’ve written Pepé le pew and Penelope as a healthy couple but they were so sweet it became sickening and most of the comedy would come from other characters who would ether plug cartoonishly big things in their ears so they didn’t have to hear them or characters who couldn’t take it anymore and try to stop them with cartoonish antics. Which would ether wouldn’t work or make things worse (for them at least. Pepé and Penelope would just get even more romantic) until eventually they would just talk to them. Pepé and Penelope would be embarrassed when they realized how overly romantic they got and didn’t even notice how uncomfortable they made every one feel. And the lesson would be there is a time and place for everything and don’t take your romance too far.

That’s… A really good spin on the characters, actually.
We’re so used to the old chase dynamic, let’s flip it the other way around and show how characters react to two people being openly in love. You don’t see that sort of thing in cartoons very often. Only example example I can think of off the top of my head was one episode of The Amazing World of Gumball and it concerned Darwin and Carrie.

To each his own. I'm glad you can see the positives in Tiny Toons Looniversity even though I find it inferior to the original Tiny Toon Adventures series for a number of reasons. I'm not fond of Babs and Buster Bunny being twins instead of the unrelated couple they were, I would have preferred if the series alternated between having three seven-minute shorts focusing on different characters and full 22-minute episodes rather than every episode being the latter, and the closing credits lack the end tags and gag credits of the original.
I will admit that one positive quality about Looniversity is that it gives some of the more obscure Looney Tunes characters from the Seven Arts era like Cool Cat and Merlin the Magic Mouse their own A Day in the Limelight episodes, the way the original series did for Bosko, Honey, Foxy, Roxy, and Goopy Geer.
I'm still watching Looniversity in the hopes that Warner Bros. will bring the original Tiny Toon Adventures series to MAX and that Konami will bring their Tiny Toon Adventures games to modern consoles in a compilation similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, but I personally don't see it lasting beyond the two seasons it has planned. Maybe it will change as time goes on, but given the choice between Adventures and Looniversity, I'd take Adventures hands down.

I think the main issue with Looniversity is that the original drawings got fucked over in translation from Boards and/or Layouts to Final Animation
Either because WB can't handle actual cartooning despite them letting a movie based on the best Looney Tunes revival (LTC) come out next month, or because the studio they outsourced it to kinda didn't get it. The answer's somewhere in the middle most likely.

I mean, I'm still not a fan of a lot of the things they did in this series, in fact there's more than a few aspects of it that make me cringe quite a bit. But I do have to admit that it wasn't quite as awful as I was fearing it would be. I think the fact that this is an alternate universe and is in no way the same characters and Acme Loo I grew up with has made most of the dumber changes they've made a lot easier to live with. I was actually pleasantly surprised that I was able to occasionally chuckle because some of the jokes do land. I'm afraid I'm on the other end of the spectrum when it comes to Sweetie. I adore her original more unhinged and quirky self, while the new grounded, neutral take does absolutely nothing for me. The strict focus on the Acme Loo campus has also made the series feel much more small scale compared to the old show. I could go on with the changes that didn't work for me, but I feel I'm getting too negative here. Like I said, I found this show to be better than I thought it would. I'm not expecting this new version to produce timeless five star classics like "Kon Ducki", "The Horror of Slumber Party Mountain", "Thirteen Something", "Hollywood Plucky", etc... but it'll be okay for what it is.

I just think it was done in a way that said hey look we’re not gonna last that long and they only lasted 36 episodes so we’re getting rebooted we’re gonna try our best and they did what they had to do. The old Animaniacs had over 100 eps and more freedom.
I think this tiny toons reboot has more freedom and It could go on for longer potentially .

People tend to forget that Pepe was the butt of his own shorts' jokes - the fact that his actions were inappropriate (from misreading the social cues of the situation) _was_ the joke, nobody making or watching the old Looney Tunes thought it was okay for a guy to keep coming onto a woman who was _genuinely_ repulsed. And while the "culture" surrounding dating has changed immensely, human instincts haven't - handsome by her standards and not stinky, many a woman would be enamored with Pepe's playful aggression.
One of his early shorts ends with a reveal that the entire French accent is a bit, his real name is Henry, and he already has a wife - that version of the character is a genuine cad who rightly gets beaten for his troubles. Funny, but I think him and Penelope being a genuine loving couple off-camera is better, your idea is great.

I'm glad you brought up Fields Of Honey. Most people seem to misconstrue how toon aging works and insist toons never physically age when we've seen blatant examples of toons getting older, such as the Warners, the Tiny Toons if you disregard the reboot being a different continuity, even Ash Ketchum was aged up in a newer series. Toons can age one or more of three ways, 1) being forgotten, 2) their animator making them older, and 3) in the Warners' cases at a slow rate just naturally. Anyway a point worth bringing up about one of your Ani reboot critiques is the executive producer confirmed the Warners survived that meteor, inadvertently also revealing what type of immortal the Warners are (deathless, as in they aren't bound by life or death and need to be erased outright to die), not eternal life type, in fact official statements reveal they're the opposite of eternal. In the original series Plotz said he'll keep them locked away from the outside world for the rest of their lives which tells us they have a natural age cycle, they just don't get taller. I thought Tiny Toons Looniversity was...eh btw. Can't get past the creative decisions to make the duo twins and have them all be unacquainted when we've known these characters have been friends since the original. Would have preferred a straight continuation.
Oh, one last point, I would disagree with the modern Warners in particular being meanspirited. They had more heartfelt moments than in the original. Dot for instance adopts a child star after witnessing how dull her childhood is. She never showed compassion on that level. They saved disfigured clones from a mad scientist and offered them to be part of their family as well. They've grown more empathetic and compassionate outright.

the not related thing was more than a joke, it also was because Buster and Babsy Bunny have several moments of showing attraction to each other, and is not like Im shipping here, they could show really horny for each other in very funny and loonely tunes, tex Averey way, so, yes, for me feels weird and iwky saw these characters as twins after the way I knew them, I also think it takes things out from their personality. I am ok if a reboot expands the personality of a characters, like Ducktales did with Huey, Dewey, and Louie, but I think this show did the opposite for them, also Plucky had more personality, he showed more facets, he did have a ego problem, but he was also sensitive, energetic, very imaginative and although mean at times, he was also a good friend. This show, as the Animaniacs reboot, is also kind of killing a lot of the other characters outside in this case some gags and the intro, like Gogo Dodo, or Fowlmouth. This, like a lot of 80s-90s shows was also a show about a bunch of characters, and that is not what this reboot is doing. I do also hate what they did to Pepe Le Pew in recent years. I don't even think he needs to be updated, we all knew even as kids that the joke was on how horny but not desired he was, no one thought he was doing something good or was being a role model, his behavior was shown as a problem in the gags, most of the time he was. a satire of that kind of people, and if I could get it as a kid, I. don't know how adults can't right now.

    • @rise.-mikey
      @rise.-mikey 5 месяцев назад

Yeah I don't get how people see Plucky as only ego centrical, when he's not always like that- he still had an episode with this one martian girl and he didn't exactly do what Daffy told him to do, instead he bonded with her. Even though I never get to watch the entire show on TV, this was one episode that stuck to me for a long time, seeing kids being kids while the adults were rather the stupid one, who see each other as enemies.

What drives me insane about this Pepe Le Pew controversy is the fact that he was very obviously a hyperbolic parody of some of the worst tropes in Old Hollywood romances, which absolutely deserved to be made fun of. Leading men would come off as complete creeps pursuing women who were openly disinterested in them, and in an insane twist they'd magically cave and fall in love right at the very end and it was always played straight.
Meanwhile... Are modern romances really any better? Pepe could easily be rewritten into some insane romcom protagonist using schemes and gimmicks to "win" Penelope's affection, and she could be just as crazy for liking him back in spite of the red flags, with only his smell and their language barrier hindering reciprocation. No idea how anyone ever saw his cartoons and perceived him as anything less than the villain, sure it could be considered distasteful to play that for laughs but the audience was always meant to sympathize with Penelope, and she had plenty of opportunities herself to reverse the roles and hassle him right back.

If Animaniacs had the same feel as the old show, only with updated technology and storylines it would have been more universally beloved.

Mainly because it feels like a parody of the original show rather than a continuation.

I understand your point but my views are completely the opposite. I think the Animaniacs reboot has its flaws like the lack of variety and gross out gags, but I didn't find it a lot more mean spirited than the original series and I actually like it that it had some of and edge. I mean, the original series had episodes like 'A Very Very Very Very Special Show' which actually were cynical and mean spirited in an irreverent way. I also thought most of the verbal gags, the animation and the songs were almost as good as they were in the original show. Maybe the plots and some of the visual gags were a little worse. On the other hand I think Tiny Toons Looniversity is too sitcommy, very kid friendly and a little dull. It lacks the irreverent tone of the original to me and for new, younger audiences it's not a horrible show, but I think it's a very average one. Most of the cartoony jokes in Tiny Toons seem pretty forced. To me it's a bit like The Looney Tunes Show, but more oriented to little kids. And for me continuity is an issue in this case. Sorry. I didn't mind it in DuckTales because I get the benefits of rebooting characters like Webby and Mrs Beakley to make them more interesting, but in Tiny Toons I don't see why Buster and Babs being siblings makes anything especially better. And Babs, especially, is less funny than her original self. I don't have a big problem with the changes on Sweetie cause she wasn't a very interesting character in the original anyway. I'm ok with the voices for the most part. Plucky's original voice was funnier but the new is decent, the others are pretty much ok.

I'm not a mongoloid, but I still miss the joke. "Buster Bunny and Babs Bunny. No relation."

Fields of Honey is based on Bosko and Honey which were the first ever Looney Tunes characters and I hate how you choose to not acknowledge them.

I think the Tiny Toons reboot is boring and bland, but I guess it depends on what you’re looking for in the show. I honestly don’t have a problem with the new direction, but it’s just so badly utilized and way less entertaining than the original.

The more I think about it, the more I think making Buster and Babs related is actually better than keeping it as it was.
    1) What you said: Joke's been done, let's move on.
    2) Kinda tired of the trope of "Oh, there is a boy and a girl so they have to get in a romantic relationship." That's why I was pleased with Zootopia and hope to fuck any continuations keep Nick and Judy as friends.
    3) More storytelling possibility. Kinda raises the stakes when both of them are involved.

I thought Tiny Toons Loonveristy was bad. The animation is really good but the writing is bland. Similar to 2016 Powerpuff Girls gags take a backseat to cheesy life lessons. They love to go for the most obvious jokes possible. They think dropping anvils on people is funny. When Looney Tunes originailally did that gag it was more fresh. Also there was more too it than dropping anvils on people they were trying to be inventive with the gags. For better slapstick in a newer cartoon turn on Gumball. That show is creative with its gags and doesn't do gags that are played out.

1:38 They are cartoons they can't die. They'll be fine if it gets rebooted again. I have the opposite opinion. I think that the Animaniacs reboot is awesome except that they got rid of most of the other characters. That was a mistake. It's also too political for a show that is supposed to be aimed at children. I agree with its liberal propaganda but I think a comedy show aimed at kids should be less biased or at least more subtle. If they got rid of those 2 things it would be a flawless reboot.

I couldn’t get used to the voice change. It just sounded wrong sounding and the pace of this show was very boring. Also, the change they made between Buster and Babs was too blatant and odd.
