I drove big rigs for many years. One of the biggest fears of driving those things is a front tire blow-out. When that happens you usually end up on your side or worse. I my years of driving I had 2 front tires blow and you better have your spurs on. I fortunately used up some lanes but got it stopped safely both times. I'm telling you this because your incident was a miraculous job of driving and your years of experience. I'm glad you're ok.

Sorry for all of the hard luck you're having lately. It was scary to see the shrapnel from the tire coming in front of you. Glad you're ok, Clay! It's infuriating that NHRA didn't follow up on the assertions that were made. A lot of hard work goes into getting those points, and due diligence on their part isn't too much to ask. Wishing all of you MUCH better luck in Pomona! 😊

Another great video Clay, and like Leah Pruett was saying... we need MORE top end shots from everybody including the TV broadcast. Everybody shoots from the starting line and that's fine, but it would be awesome to include some top-end 300+ MPH shots with the dragster bearing down on you and blowing by. It's the best, thank you!

They don’t like people up there because the potential danger of a wreck going into, over or thru the wall! There has also been speculation of preventing sabotage wether intentional or accidental. Like if the sun bounced off the cameras lens and blinded the driver or other type of events! Mostly though it’s insurance companies telling track owners that no one past a certain point on trackside within so many feet of the track even if there’s a fence and safety barriers. Cars have gone through both and parts have gone over and through both.

Clay, Jim, it's nice to hear things we never hear about. I had no idea about the 74 pts that were scrubbed from the team. I know how it feels to play in others' sandboxes. No matter what happens, it's their playground, and rules never apply . I believe the NHRA acronym and motto is Never Happened RIGHT Again. Can't win.

That was quite a video ! A string of unfortunate circumstances for sure. In regards to announcing comments ; they should go back and rectify their comments if they prove to be inaccurate , without doing that is unfair to the competitors and the the fans as well. All the best in Pomona . These videos are invaluable to the fans of this sport. Many thanks Clay.

I can tell you this there are not maybe but two or three current drivers out there in the top fuel ranks in a couple and the funny car ranks that could save a top fuel car going 320 miles an hour when it blows a tire and doesn’t crash the whole car. Clay you are the top /best driver out there right now.

If q 1 thru 4 went as planned with no hiccups, I know the parts plus team would have won that event. You guys and gals are on fire. Rick, I know it seems like the team went through parts in these past events, but it was inevitable, and they had no control over this. Gather up what parts and chasis are available, go out, and bring the last event home. Rick and the team earned it. I'm addicted to this team.

Absolutely amazing driving brother, i can’t believe I’m not seeing anyone commenting you on that… I had a tire let go on a 200MPH run in a supercharged 02 Z06 at 178mph.. I was actually on a freeway.. it was my second try, the tires were sipped ( cuts along the tread ) I wasn’t aware. I had just put new set of AFR mongoose heads and a lingenfelter screw style blower..
it took a block to stop.. I eventually hit 208 mph .. cooked a new set of rotors on that pass. It was on highway 16 Washington state between Ramiller exit and downtown Gig harbor exit.. November 2007.. and i still have the data from event..
my hands shook for a week..
then got married. And lost it to a monster

Yes, Clay I would listen to racing stories for hours. Uncensored. No need to worry about the length of the videos, most of us would listen as long as you have something to show us. If not, that’s what the “FFWD” feature is for! :)
I checked on Monday with someone familiar with the event to see about the car after the tire grenade and they did say the chassis was tweaked. Been following that and the post-Dallas drama, which sounds absurd. So sorry to hear that. Knock em out in Pomona and ya’ll get a reset for a while. Hope you’ll still cover the car and work over the off season! Good luck!

It was 100 percent something stationary lying on the track that clay ran over. If you watch on the video you posted yesterday Vegas E1 no 3 wheels at 1:43 you will see it. You must watch it frame by frame, at about 1:43.25 to 1:43.35 seconds you will see an object on the track go from the front of the car to the back and when the tire hits it is when it blows.

You know I quit everything to do with the NHRA because of the jacking around with the rules and making false cheat claims against some teams. Wally Parks would never have done any of these things without explaining to everyone what it was all about. I started hanging around the drags back in 1967 and loved every second of it until the people in charge after WP passed started playing with the rules without telling the fans what the hell was going on, that's when I walked away and didn't look back. I didn't give the NHRA the time of day until about a year ago when I ran across Clay's RUclips channel. Clay Millican is the best thing to happen to drag racing in a very long time. I see the NHRA is still playing their stupid ass games of we are right and even if were not we are still right. I wonder who has the deep pockets! Semper Fi !!!

I agree with you guys. What Tony said, didn't make sense. If something came out of the headers. It was at speed, anything out of the headers would have shot past the tire. And the engine didn't self destruct for shrapnel. Tires blow,it happens. The swaying at the top end and the wind could've caused something to do with it.

Okay...... well thats a lot. You all are superheroes - I have long given up on explaining to non-drag race folks how tough this stuff is even if you don't have to turn left. You still have two pretty intact cars (even with front-halving - not crashed), three Wallys and a very battle-hardened team going into Pomona and into the off season. No ones hurt, and Rick seems all good. It's going to be a hard week but we are with you! Let's go!!
