- OVO is the Peter Gabriel-authored soundtrack to the Millennium Dome Show, the 160-artist extravaganza that underwent 999 performances during the 365 days in 2000 that the Dome was open. Helping to tell the story of three generations of the same family living through three distinct eras - the past, the present, the future - Peter’s soundtrack accordingly drew from deep, long-held tradition and from contemporary grooves. Hurdy-gurdys butted up alongside drum & bass, ancient dancing the same millennium-celebrating dance as modern.
Released halfway through 2000, OVO boasts a stellar cast, including Cocteau Twin Elizabeth Fraser, Neneh Cherry, Alison Goldfrapp and Paul Buchanan from The Blue Nile. Some of the tracks from OVO have become fixtures of the Gabriel canon, among them Downside Up, Father Son and The Tower that Ate People.

I watched OVO show in 2000 at Millenium Dome. I wish there was a DVD of the show as it was not allowed to video record it. I respected those instructions and did not take any recording in my video camera. I regret that because no VHS or DVD was ever created for the public. I would buy a DVD ot this show for sure.
Me too! I sneakily recorded about 5 mins but that just made me want more!
For what it’s worth this is my favorite Gabriel music by far. Pity it wasn’t more successful.

I saw this show with my 7 year old son and he was fascinated. So much so that he asked if we could stay long enough to see it all again!
He has been a huge Peter Gabriel fan ever since. We even went to Womad one year just to see him and then again up to Manchester for the Back To Front tour.
A magnificent artistic achievement.
Peter and I are about the same age and he is the one artist I have always followed (post Genesis)

In amongst all the criticism of the Dome there should have been serious, positive acclaim for this amazing show and the many many talented young people who brought Mr Gabriels ideas alive. I always felt it was a shame that their superb performances got lost in the general sneering abouf the overall Dome experience loved OVO and bought the CD, its a shame theres no DVD.
An amazing project with many impressions! I suggest it needs a long breath to put everything together for such a colourful performance. In your eyes the passion is shining. Praise the Lord for giving you these talents of creativity und a special voice. 🙏❤️

I love the OVO album. Wish I could see the show. Would be cool if Peter does another soundtrack/instrumental/show type thing as he's good at that stuff. The soundscapes he creates is what makes his traditional albums so interesting.
I don't know Peter personally. As a hardcore fan of his works of art over many years I've concluded he has got to be a very organically spiritual individual. I always kind of suspected he did have somewhat of an ego but also suspected he is able to keep that ego in check 🧐 thanks to anyone who took the time to read this 🙂
