Tried to find info about the jd jetting couldn’t find much your video was really helpful and you really went over the different zones thanks for the help
Thanks for the video. I’m doing mine tomorrow. I didn’t get a new exhaust, just pulled the reeds and pulled the screens on the end of the factory slip on. Stoked!
I just did the same airbox yesterday. What a PITA! I ended up taking the plastics out of the sub-frame, to manipulate the boot into it. Could not get the last two corners to pop into place. Ended up using some windex spray and it went much easier. But yeah it's a 5 on the difficult scale. Truth, it is much lighter and it's also a factory KTM part. Also cleans up the airbox look over some tube sticking in there for airflow. Spend 60+ on an airtube or 90 for the factory airbox designed to fit the EXC. Go airbox!
Seriously!! I didn't even show any of the filming in this video because it looks like I was having a tantrum while doing it!! haha Just rode the bike yesterday with all of the power mods (FMF Pipe, JD Jetting Tuner, Euro Boot, etc.) though... It's so good! Still super linear power but it has so much more on the top end and low end bark when you want it.
Oli M that’s only if you put an air boot from an SX/XC bike on the EXC. The boot is a different shape because of the linkage style suspension. The euro EXC air boot has plenty of clearance
I just installed on my 2018 250sxf. Fresh piston, fmf, port n polished head. Im going to adujust parameters this weekend. Im also thinking of getting a aem uego wide band gauge. Weld a bung in header pipe and see how this actually does. Should be interesting
Nice! Would love to hear how that goes on the SX bike. I ended up getting a GET ecu on my 2020 500 and it was a game changer compared to the JD, so if this doesn’t work out, know that the GET is there for you. Cheers!
Easy way to get that boot out without struggling to much is to remove the muffler and lower subframe bolts so the subframe pivots up allows more room to manipulate it
Making the bike richer actually made the idle speed rise a little bit. So I had to go over to the red know on the throttle body and turn the idle back down a little bit. Cheers!
You def did the airboot the hard way 😆 I have a video about how to do it the easy way. Not sure where you ended up on your tuner, but mine is 7+ on everything to not be too lean and run correctly. Never flames out now… and that’s with a low set idle. First time seeing your channel. You have good taste in bikes 😉
Nice, that does look a lot easier coming in from the other side, thank you! I don’t remember where I ended up on that bike, I have a ‘23 350XCF and a ‘17 300XCW now and am super focused on racing enduro and hard enduro. Cheers!
I just picked up a new KTM EXC-F and pretty much have the same set up on order (FMF and a JD tuner). I came across your video and see it’s about a year old. Are you still happy with your set up? Has it performed well over the last year? Thanks !
Hey Alex, this video is actually a bit older. At this point I have a 2020 KTM 500 XCF-W with a GET ecu and it’s a beast. The two map switch is unreal, it’s like two different bikes with the flick of a switch. I sold this 2018 when COVID hit because my fiancé is a organ transplant patient and adventure riding was off the map for a while. But either way, I love the KTM 500’s. The suspension just needs to be revolved for faster riding and the tuner/GET ecu route is a must. A 7OZ clutch weight from Blais Racing is epic for increasing chugability of the bike. Cheers!
@@SourceADV that’s for the quick reply. I know the GET is amazing but im not sure I need all that at this point if my life. I enjoy ripping around but I’m not trying to compete. After dropping 15k on a bike I just want it to NOT run lean at this point . I got the FMF slip on so it does not sound like a sewing machine but it will lean it out even more. In your opinion did the JD tuner make it run rich enough with the slip on?
Yeah I think it did the trick to get it rich enough to not put the bike at risk and it definitely ran better for sure! Just make sure you Desmong the bike and block up the intake air injection port. Cheers!
I just did the 3 gallon IMS tank on mine along with the same exact computer module but unfortunately the one JD jetting sent me was completely dead, so I have to send it back and get another one.
If I’m just running an fmf rct 4.1 and not doing the intake just yet, which settings would you say to go with? The top off road one or the open exhaust. FE501s 2022
Thanks Cam! I think if you throw a slip on exhaust or new tip on it and the JD power tuner you’ll be really happy. Check out Blais Racing, he has whole power kits for the 4T KTMs that make the whole process really easy. Cheers!
@@camdecoste4837 definitely get the tuner on there before you pull the reed valve. The 4.1 exhaust alone is probably making the bike pretty lean. The bike will feel a ton better! Let me know how it goes!
What settings did you end up going with for highway/mileage use or off-road/power use? I received a JD Tuner for free, so I’ll go back to stock TPS and see how it feels. My setting will likely be different for my setup, just curious what you landed on. Great video, thanks.
Im sorry to say that I don't remember at this point and I got rid of that bike... But I think the notable difference from the recommended JD settings was to take Green/Blue to 7, everything else matched the aftermarket exhaust map the the Tuner recommends. Cheers!
The mounting spot for the reeds in the air boot is rectangular and has jagged edges that in my mind cause air flow restrictions after you remove the reeds. The euro air boot is really smooth from the air filter to the intake... just seemed better. Not sure if it actually is or isn’t LOL.
@andrewpocock1234 yeah I believe that. I don’t think it makes more power, it just smooths it out a tiny bit. It’s nowhere near the same realm as the GET ecu which completely changes the bike for the better, smoother, stronger, runs better and the two taco maps are two totally different bikes which is awesome.
Sorry, I meant to say Performance Exhaust (like the FMF 4.1RCT pipe that's on there). True open exhaust would be running it with no muffler/silencer, just an open header.
What is the power gain doing this with an fmf pipe? like 10-15hp? That would be nice, but mainly I just want the bike to run cooler and stop flaming out when its really hot outside. My right leg feels like a roasted chicken after a long ride.
@@SourceADV I havent noticed any actual backfires but definitely noticed a lot more pops on decel. I just have an exhaust endcap on it now and am waiting for my fmf pipe to get here to start dialing in my jd settings. was thinking maybe it's the emission system?
@@corbinmellow Thats definitely a major culprit, although I still get some popping here and there (definitely less than stock -- So a step in the right direction), the other things to look at are whether your header is totally sealed at the exhaust manifold and to make sure you have good fuel pressure or not. Sorry, I know that second one is not a simple answer.
Had my mechanic change the airbox on my 2019 KTM 350 EXC-F and now is running so lean that after 5 minutes it turns off whenever I stop (idling). Think I need to replace the ECU. Any advice?
That was so helpful to watch you change and explain the settings. I struggled to find this info. Thx and have fun. Nice bike!
J R thanks man!! Take care, enjoy the ride!

triggerlocks you’ll love it, it screams!
How did it feel afterward ? I have a 24’ 350 that I want to do something similar to.
@HVACOG definitely a lot better than stock. Get Ecu is wayyyy better though

Not sure, you should reach out to JD and see. Thanks!
So why did you replace the entire air box rather than just pull the reeds out? Was it just to lose weight?
Also great video man. Really informative

do you need to adjust the TPS back into stock range ?
steve copley yes for sure.
Did it help with the decel pops?
Yes it does, but the best way to make the bike incredible is definitely the GET ecu from taco moto. I run it on my current bike and it is incredible

Closer to $900. These are some expensive toys. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
