Upper Armories of the Third Deep! Right on, so much passion and ferocious playing even when IKSSEE:3 tune was being worked out a year before the record!
Good god I love this. No in ears, self-tuning their instruments, mixing audio between songs, no barricade. Just a band playing some local shitty venue and it's perfect. Also, Josh is right in the comments lol he's definitely on speed....don't know how he didn't break his kit.
Setlist: 0:00 (cuts in) Time Consumer 4:49 The Upper Armories Of The Third Deep 12:40 Delirium Trigger 17:55 Devil In Jersey City 24:31 Everything Evil Enjoy!
The Upper Armories of the Third Deep is such a cool name I always wondered why I was always trying to call IKSSE3 that, I must have seen the demo name somewhere. Good to see someone else say it! I thought I was just crazy lol
Time Consumer, the song that got me into this band, and still my favorite song to this day. Pain is only a pulse, if you just stop feeling it, will always be one of my favorite lines.
Listen to how hard they go on Time Consumer. did not even need to have a big crowd and they all put 100% into it. that's why they're still around and making great albums
If I remember well, the crowd filled the space and was really into the show. Though it was a very small space, so really not a ton of people. They really put on such a great show, always!
I took my 9 yo son to see them in Dallas last night. It was his first concert and he loved every minute of it and that made my heart swell. I've been a fan since 2003, and to see them go from a gig like this to the mind-blowing show they put on now with the incredible visuals, flawless performance, and thousands of fans singing along to every lyric of every song... and to know they have worked and grinded their asses off for twenty years to achieve that is, in a word, inspiring. It sounds cliche, but hard work and dedication to one's craft, especially when you doubt yourself or simply don't feel motivated but you do it anyway because you have a vision and you want to make it a reality at all cost is a rare and priceless thing, and the world would be better off if we all had that kind of discipline. They deserve every bit of success they've had and will continue to have. The Children of the Fence grew by one last night and my son made a memory that he will never forget. I don't have the words to express how much that means to me. Sorry... that was way longer than I intended it to be lol.
I've been a fan since 2003 too! I took my son to his first show on Halloween in 2013. He's been a fan since. And the fandom grew by one more at that Dallas show. Brought the love of my life. He's now hooked. Love seeing the Fence grow!! That show was incredible. :)
Dude. I feel the same way. I'm so proud of these guys. Their success brings tears of joy to my eyes. I would love to bring my son to see them. They haven't come around here since the year my son was born though(2010ish) which is actually kind of lame because they used to play local shows here back in these days and have a huge following here. But it's a thing that happens when a band gets to a certain point they only play major cities. That's my only gripe.
The first time I saw them was the following February (2/14/03) on their 1st headline tour with Hopesfall and the Blood Brothers at the Glasshouse in Pomona, California. This video and era of them brings back great memories… Thank you sharing!
this bring me back to the days when I'd listen to Second Stage Turbine Blade while doing homework. Cant believe ive been a fan for 20 years already. love this band!
Yes. When cobalt and calcium was a bootlegging club.. and I remember paying 5 bucks then to get access to bootlegs for years and years to come..and “upper armories” was all over the place and finally became a song haha
No hate at all to their new material, they’re a very different band now, but this is the sound that was honestly so great about coheed. Really takes me back! Thanks for uploading.
I would have absolutely lost my mind. But I was also 8 and didn't find out about Coheed til 8 years after this show. 😅 Oh well, at least I get to see them in August!! 🔥
I like this. Back then you were very likely the only guy recording this. Now, every concert and every event will have hundreds or thousands of people recording it at any given time. But these pre-digital recordings were sure a special rarity. Thanks for the upload!
I was very often the only one, yeah. It was a little different then because some bands were not about it. Sometimes I had permission, sometimes not. Now, as you said, it is a sea of phone screens. Which I am not talking shit on, as I occasionally still film stuff with my phone these days. My motivations were different back in the day though. More archival/personal documentation as opposed to having something to post on social (although it is where it essentially ended up anyway).
@@frigidemberrec Thank you for it. I can just imagine being made fun of as the, "the guy that holds there phone up at a concert". This is great to see though, and damn they sound tight.
I saw them once in 2002 and 2003 at a small club in Pittsburgh. Pretty sure the les paul Travis is playing here Claudio was using at the 2002 show I was at. It's black and taped up like I remember. They've come so far but I still think this is peak coheed for my tastes. SSTB is one of my all time albums.
I remember seeing coheed around the Good Apollo days and to this day it was the absolute loudest concert I’ve ever been to.. I remember the entire crowd in sync plugging their ears when a higher note guitar solo happened haha. They used to play loud as holy hell
I watched this whole set only knowing two songs but a few days later some band mates and their friends played a bunch of u guys so well. Especially time consumer that shit is so hard
Was this the show with Three Years Older and Taking Back Sunday? I know I saw them all there at one show but cant remember the date. Was always looking for tape of Coheed here as well as TBS!
What did you record this on? I can just imagine the issues in filming in dark back then. Also, Claudio get off that keg at 5:30! That's so dangerous. One bad slip and the past 20 years don't happen.
not sure about 2002 but back around that time i remember recording things on sony handycams that had actual cassettes in them that had to be loaded onto a computer using a "FireWire", and yes filming in low light always looked like this!! lol
I am 42 so i had to think about this one... if i wasnt in the room, just observing, this Coheed all day. But trapped in the room WITH them... i would have to choose today's Coheed since they would certainly be more laid back and not rowdy kids 😆
@@frigidemberrec wow interesting, i barely recognize it :) i remember it being much more narrow, stage left was the hallway/stairs and stage right was that weird wraparound patio type of thing
Wait if this was shortly after SSTB was released would they have been playing a new song right off the bat? I remember seeing them in the summer of 2003 and they introduced In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 as a New song. You sure this isn't April 2003 because IKSSE 3 was released in October of 2003.
If you listen to what Claudio is singing the lyrics aren't finalized I seem to remember that version of the song is call "Upper Armories of the Third Deep"
im about to go to their upcoming nashville concert that was going to be co hosted by DGD (my beloved) but sadly tillian got caught up with police things so i accept alkaline trio as a replacement but i feel like the fall of troy wouldve been a better replacement
Jesus were we on speed? 2002??? Oh, yeah probably actually!
Jesus christ, lol
I fucking love this so much LOL
You were supposed to spend that money on gas for the next gig man!
@@driftless7134 hey! We got to the next show!!! Probably really fast!
Love you josh!!!!! Hahahhaa im so glad josh found this video
The fact that he still has this guitar and I just watched him play it 3 days ago is INSANE
He actually lost and it and a fan found it and sold it back to them up in Chicago. True story.
I’ve never seen him play a Les Paul live in the nine times I’ve seen them, which song did he break it out for?

Fun fact. The original title The Upper Armories of Third Deep. A reference to the Lord of the rings
Insane seeing a version of IKSSE:3 before the lyrics and melody were finalized.

awww... the whole dialogue of claudio saying they really suck tonight followed by the audience disagreeing and discussing it is so heartwarming
Man I'm so glad they made it.

claudio's hair is short and josh's mouth is closed, it's not a time capsule, it's a parallel universe. Great stuff anyway

Hearing Coheed play this fast makes me sleepy. I am old now. What a throwback.
So this is the SG that Claudio is talking about on their latest RRD which he got back after years of separation. A very precious indeed!
