    I could listen to Bob D 24/7. He truly walks the talk, had the pleasure of seeing him on Zoom over 20 times during this pandemic and the talks before the meeting and after were a gift. He even leaves his personnel phone number just in case someone needs him.

      @Dale Green he is mostly doing live stuff now but if I see him on a flyer I'll try and notify you. So I met him on zoom and he would give his phone number out in most talks and I saw him at least 50 times during Pandemic but he did not know me. He always said if anyone travels to Vegas to call him so I took him up on it. I was traveling to visit my brother in Vegas and I called him, he didn't know me but invited me over his house for a Tuesday big book study, he host it at his house every Tuesday night, food and about 100 people every week, he was great. Very altruistic,

    Gees, I had a resentment against Craig until he walked me through his 4th Step Process on it. The 4th Step I have seems to just go on an on about exploring character defects but without going a little deeper, there's no understanding the why's and wherefore's and thus no room for self compassion; instead just more self shaming. I took notes on the stages he walked through in the inventory as he shared it and will look deeper and more kindly and deeply at my role in certain affairs. Great honest and deep share. Thanks.

    Pain, whether it be physical, mental, spiritual or ALL three, is VERY painful. There have been many times when my AA friends have been in Dire circumstances and many times, I'd no answers or suggestions on how to help resolve their problems so, what did I do? I simply put my arms around them and said Nothing. I could NOT give them any advice as I'd never been in their situation. I let them know that they were NOT ALONE and I would be there for them to help them get through this difficult time. Sometimes, saying nothing is the BEST way to help. Being there for people says MORE than words ever can. Thank you ALL.
    Peace, light and love.

  • @OdomtologyBooks
    @OdomtologyBooks  11 лет назад +7

    In this talk, I think Bob is talking about more interpersonal resentments rather than horrific tragedies. However, I will say, forgiveness is very powerful. The instances you mentioned are insanely horrendous, but in each and every case, there are certain individuals who have indeed forgiven the perpetrators and have allowed Love to win, thus allowing its powerful healing to resonate within themselves. One of our speakers, Ed M., talks about forgiving the murderer of his father in his tape.

    This is in response to what John Anthony stated below. First and foremost, our AA literature talks about that even "justifiable anger" is better left to those more qualified than the alcoholic. That because of our vast perception issues and our ability to form a resentment out of almost anything, we should avoid getting angry, because for us, the business of resentments is infinitely grave. We as alcoholics need to be able to let things go that may cause us to drink. A forgiving spirit, if you will.
    What strikes me about your post John is that you assume that AA needs to have an answer for mass tragedies and death. AA has no opinion on outside issues, and does not wish to engage in any controversies. We deal with resentments 1 sponsee at a time, and for those sponsees who have dealt with loss, the only thing we try to convey is that walking around with a deep resentment for the alcoholic means to die. And if the original resentment is that someone was taken from someone by violence or senseless crime, there is no point in the surviving party drinking themselves to death also. If they are in AA, and they are sitting across from me, and they don't want to drink and they don't want to die, they may have to *be willing* to look at the world from another angle, and see that maybe those who perpetrated such crimes were also sick themselves.
    It is from this new angle that we approach life, as we try to pull another sick alcoholic back from the brink of destruction. Please understand that.

      Late in seeing this but I agree 100%. My parents were murdered when I was 10 and us kids found them. It wasn't until I got to AA 36 years later that I was able to let go of the resentments among other things that came along with it, and walk a free loving life! Thank you for stating this so eloquently.

    Great story and amazing use of the steps for healing. Another thing I found for myself was that in some relationships I should not have been that person at all. Or that we were not really comfortable for the long term relationship, family, partner etc. No matter how good or at attentive one could be it still may not work. Insights on comparability is also very eye opening.
