How long can you leave them like that? One of my inserts I read when I bought the grains said they consume the sugar water in 3 days and then the grains will consume the other grains. Thanks!
I have kefir grains i forgot about in the fridge, for a year. Thinking I will start again soon.. They were stored a few apple pieces. Can u say vinegar? I'm gonna see if they have survived.
When you feed it every two weeks, do you simply add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the water? Or do you strain the grains and put into a glass of fresh water (1 cup) and sugar (1 tablespoon)?
Good question. I made a video all about making water kefir here ➡️ ruclips.net/video/rzBUaRLpONs/видео.html. You can just those measurements for feeding.
I apologize. If you missed something, please refer to my blog post (linked in the description) with all the steps. theorganicbeehive.com/storing-water-kefir-grains
Sometimes your water kefir can start turning cloudy and get a little stinky. Resetting your grains in plain water can help bring it back to a balanced state. You can leave them this way in your fridge for one week. Change the water out after a few days so that all of the excess yeast from their environment is gone. Hope that helps Jennie!
I'm sorry my directions weren't clear. This video was strictly about storing grains. I'd recommend watching my video on how to make water kefir for exact measurements on feeding instructions. Hope that answers some of your questions. ruclips.net/video/rzBUaRLpONs/видео.html
The video was simple and helpful. It wasn’t explained how long to leave the kefir grains in the fridge in plain water without sugar. Thanks 😊
Thank you this really help!
I'm so glad it helped!
I'm storing mine in the fridge with sugar water, i think it's the best way, much easier to wake them up than any other method.
Agreed!

Your grains are huge! Mine definitely dont look like that...thanks for the tips, im freezing mine.
Can you store them in silicone bottle with sugar for during traveling? Would love to take my water kefir on my trips
What do you do to keep your grains big like that. Mine are grainy :(
I just patted them dry and stuck in fridge,do they need water?
definitely. they die without water. I am new to kefir but my friend naturopath was telling me kefir is found in spring water
PS: unless you want to freeze them!
How long do you rest them with no sugar?
One week :)
Kefir is harb ( گوند کٹر)
Uhm? What grains? And where do I get these grains?
They are water kefir grains. I got mine through a friend but Cultures for Health is a great place to purchase them!
This is why people don't use these grains. Not enough DIRECTION on how to CLEARLY look after them.
