If it makes you feel any better, they didn't call you for this movie because it is a prequel set 64 years before Hunger Games Part 1. Including you would've been a continuity error, and considering how amazing of a character you were in the last movie, everyone would've noticed.
I wholeheartedly disagree with you Charlie. The new hunger games movie was pretty spectacular. Not only does it look absolutely stunning, but they took a risk with its unusual 3rd act, which I think paid off in regards to expanding on the world. I also really loved the brutal and unsophisticated nature of how this analog tech hunger games was run. Everyone in my theater had an amazing time. The audience score on rotten tomatoes is currently 91%, and it’s killing it's Disney/Marvel competition in the box office.
True, and Show didn't just 'become bad' like Charlie says, he actually tried to stay good even after doing controversial things. I really like the 3rd part of the movie where the viewer is brought to the point where Snow really 'embraces the dark side'. I really don't get the hate towards this movie.
@@d_a_r_iisnow is literally the best person to everyone in the capital for like 3/4 of the movies run time and then he just starts killing people and unloading an entire magazine into the air out of “rage”
@@wock3476 I don’t know how you didn’t see transition between the two states: he firstly starts caring about his safety, talking to Sejanus to stop him from helping the rebels, after that he understands that it is impossible to change his friends mind so records him. At this moment Snows villain arc starts. But he still has hope in face of Lucy Grey. He does whatever has to be done for their safety, giving up everything to be with her. And after she - the most precious person in his life turns on him, he starts raging and, afterwards, killing.
Honestly the ending wasn't rushed if you read the book. You know there wasn't a sudden switch from a nice guy to what he was as a peacekeeper. Cause you obviously know all his thoughts in the book
Snow was never morally good or upstanding. That was their first mistake. He was always conniving, manipulative, and ambitious. His entire motivation at the start was to get his family's fortune back by appearing like the perfect, model student to get a prestigious position. He never even truly loved Lucy; he wanted to own her. And you always understood that in the book. You got that he thought he loved her, but as the outside observer, you got that his thought process and behavior was all about ownership, not love.
Yeah he was constantly judging people in a classist way, he supported the genocidal Capitol, he never questioned whether it was right for children his age and younger to be tortured every year for revenge. He just thought the torture was too boring and gross to watch.
Snow was obsessed with status to the point where he saw relationships and interactions with other people as transactional. He was raised with that desire to get his family's status back and becomes addicted to/a slave to that obsession.
i dont believe its too far fetched to think him at a younger age could possibly be an entirely different person.. considering its a good 40+ (idk the exact number) year difference between this and the present hunger games. i really liked the book and ive heard this is a pretty faithful adaptation so im actually looking forward to it
@@forgetfulsoul I think Snow is in his 80s at the time of The Hunger Games Trilogy. And this is like the 10th or 11th Games. So we're talking a good 60+ years time span.
I think the issue is that it wasn't obvious that he was always a horrible person. It's hinted at but hard to realizes for some. Most of his actions were in someway beneficial to him, never did he take action when it didn't help him. I felt it was good they made him helpful and "kind" in the beginning. Since most manipulative, abusive people are usually "kind" and charming when first introduced to their victims. All od Snow's victims fell for his charm and "care" and never realized how much of a snake he was until it was to late. I agree this should have been a two movie deal. It felt rushed and more scenes from the books should have been added to help even out the pacing.
I agree- I think for a lot of people, it's easy to pick up on his inherent horribleness on screen even in the first act due to first-hand experience with people who behave like Snow (minus murdering children), but you definitely need to be aware of what you're looking for. It's extremely hard to play a duplicitous character and portray them on screen in a way that doesn't feel like you're beating the viewer over the head with the knowledge that they're evil, but they may have been a little too subtle on screen here for many viewers, which takes away from the overall reception.
I feel like they gave plenty of hints that Snow wasn't the best person, and I'm surprised some people felt like he did a complete 180 in the 3rd part, especially when they **knew** going in that Snow would become a bad guy. Obviously internal monologues couldn't really translate well to a movie, but I think they did a good enough job
I think one of the biggest issues is they didnt make it clearer that Snow HATES Sejanis and isnt eeally hsi friend until somehwat part 3, thats why the "snow betrays Sejanis" part seems so random. Makes more sense in the book where he is constantly thinking about how much he hates Sej.
@@capp12249 Yeah, I interpreted it as an action he took primarily to protect himself, that also happened to get him brownie points with the Capitol. Two birds one stone kinda deal
After finishing the book 3 years ago I immediately knew that pacing of this movie was gonna be a nightmare. The book is just structured in a way that isn't easily translatable into a movie or even 2 movies. I have no idea how nobody involved with the creation of the original book saw this coming.
I also think the book just didn’t have that cohesive of a story. It felt like there was no point to the book’s existence - what did it explore in a meaningful way that hasn’t already been explored far more effectively in the original series? Genuinely felt like a book that didn’t have anything new to say that was worthwhile lol.
@@sasha-dt5vkWhat new should it explore? It was simply a story from Snows youth and I think it was perfectly good as it is. It explained the origins of the hunger games, introduced new interesting characters and enlightened how Snow became what he is in the trilogy. What kind of brand new groubdbreaking elements would it require to be enjoyable?
reading the book made this movie such a smoother experience to watch. i think that’s why i loved it so much, because i fully knew the inner dialogue and just how bad coriolanus is within his conscience. also, there was a whole other hour they had to go back and cut. the directors cut is 3 hr 40 minutes, and that extra hour probably would’ve really helped.
@@marinamaged962 it’s an entirely different medium of storytelling, yes it’s separate. It shares a story with it but that does not mean you should have to read it for the movie to be good
@wock3476 Well, there are tons of things that I book can present to the audience. Internal dialogue, exposition etc. Much harder in the medium of film.
The book is my favourite in the series, and I've been reading it to prepare for the film. It's fantastic, but I honest to god don't know how you could transfer this book into film in a way that actually lets the story shine. So much of it is spent with Snow's internal dialogue, his thoughts, his memories, his feelings. He says polite things and does regular acts of kindness, and those are the things you focus on, but his internal dialogue contextualises literally everything he says in a way that's so... disgusting. Like how are you supposed to even show that on screen?
@@isabelamogosanu7777 I think it’s not that bad. I liked most of it even though the plot at some points can break apart the entire movie. I came into the film with low expectations and I was happy because of that.
I know he's always lying and having an ulterior motive behind everything he did there was so much they couldn't translate, his 500 mental breakdowns about the guns the 500 mental breakdowns about Seganus his distaste for the mockingjays, his hatred for Lucy grays ballad and so much more but I feel like it did the best it possibly could
The movie was not bad by any means. At the beginning Snow’s initial motivation to help Lucy was the money he would receive. His family’s wealth is dissipating and he cannot afford university. He immediately took interest in her though, when she sang a righteous song after she was declared district 12 tribute. He snuck her food and gave her advantages even after he was told there would be no reward for him. When she saved him during the bombing, he began to love her. I believe it was the second he had to kill someone to defend himself in the arena, he became morally conflicted. He starts to spiral for the worse ethically, and long story short, it was in the Forrest fleeing North where Lucy caught him in a lie and she became suspicious, then the second he found the murder weapon she realized he was going to make the choice to destroy it and move back to the capital. Leaving her behind and clearing himself of any evidence, unless he happened see her as another loose end. She made this connection and immediately fled. Then the end is where we really see him lose all humanity and become the villain.
@@anonymoususer5351 How do you not understand that I’m explaining his moral decline and how it wasn’t actually just some sudden unreasonable change? That the movie isn’t frivolous like the title implies? He turns out to be the villain and the movie does a good job at capturing that conversion.
@GageNevin every sentence you say is literally just describing what happens in the movie. There is nothing you add beyond summary to explain why it is good. Good writing? Good acting? Good emotional beats? I wouldn't know. I haven't seen the movie and so I don't know if it's good or bad. I was interested in someone saying they liked it since the video and most comments take the opposite stance, but when I read your comment I realized I would not find out why you liked it. I guess you enjoyed it because there was a logical sequence of events that led to one another? Saying Snow fed the woman and helped her or that she makes a connection and fled isn't constructive: those are just plot points. I'd love to hear actual reasons why the movie is decent to compare to the negative things I've heard, but a series of plot points isn't going to do that.
@@anonymoususer5351 The implication was that I enjoyed the plot which would mean good writing. If you would like further elaboration yes, the acting is great. The movie does a good job at connecting you with the characters as well as keeping you on edge during the more intense scenes. Lucy Gray has very lovable and outstanding personality, and Coriolanus Snow is a character you also root for initially. Watching the decline of his morality along with his and Lucy’s relationship had an emotional impact. There is also plenty of other scenes that bring intense emotion and have your full attention. I’m not gonna elaborate every aspect of the movie that was good, if I did what would be the point of going to see it for yourself?
If they were smart they actually would have had a cameo appearance for Charlie as a cheap little cash grab from the amount of people who would buy a ticket solely just to see Charlie appear for like 10 seconds
This movie was legitimately so damn good. I have no clue how you could walk into this movie and not enjoy it. I had 0 clue what this movie was even about, we just decided to go one night cuz everyone’s read/seen the first 3 books/movies … and man… this movie was so awesome. Snow’s rise was just so well done. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Yeah online hate is making me go from it was cool to I like it. I’m like wow it wasn’t that bad. Plus before people said it’s bad they split the movie now it’s bad they didn’t. They couldn’t win. If they split it people would say no game in a hunger game movie is trash and boring love story. If they keep it and make it fleshed out people say too slow and boring. Rush it and people say second half rushed. IMO can’t win.
yeah me too, i didnt think it was bad, the book is obviously much better. but i do think it must've been difficult for it to be turned into a movie, and i think they did a good job converting all that story into that small time frame they had. albeit i did think that there was no time at all for the characters to be developed, which would feel extremely weird to people who haven't read the book. plus the actors, especially tom blyth and rachel zegler did an amazing job.
Well, honestly the biggest reason the end is so out of left field is because it's based a lot on how snows mind works, meanwhile the movie didn't really explore that much. The book obviously is from his point of view so we get to see how it all crescendos in the end
I loved the book and the movie does well on covering it. The reason why the second half fees rushed is because they were scared of separating it into 2 movies because of what happened with Mockingjay. Other than that I loved it
Typically ur reviews perfectly encapsulate my thoughts, but I actually loved this movie! Perhaps u were biased by just how much better it would’ve been with a District 8 hospital helper
@@tico5058 No, nothing that he mentioned in the video ever suggests he knows anything outside of the movie when it comes to TBOSAS. I'm not talking about the original series, those sets of movies and stories are completely different from TBOSAS. While what you're saying is true to a degree at the end of the day these pieces of media are best consumed when having at least indulged a little in author's original interpretation of said media. Yes movie adaptions can and should be able to be enjoyed without the original source, but if you're going to sit here and tell me there's nothing beneficial by understanding the original work you'd be wrong. Also it's really popular to hate anything Zegler related right now. A lot of people in the media are falling into the trap of bashing and trashing the entire film because the actor had an opinion they don't agree with. I'm not saying this is Charlie but a lot of his criticisms about the film are really surface level and seem to lack intellectual depth that could have been gained reading the book.
@@dropsskyhis whole point was that he shouldn’t have to read the book to have deeper insights into the movie. It should have been shown in the movie. It’s a failure on the filmmakers part
Honestly at this point, the best thing the hunger games franchise can do is to make a movie and have a end credit scene with Charlie coming out like nick fury. The amount of hype the theaters would have would be insane!
My first thought after reading this book was that it would be a nightmare to make into a movie. A lot is developed through the character’s internal perspective and through songs and conversations that would be very hard to convey/awkward in film edit: it could arguably be conveyed successfully in a more artistic or slower paced film but then it wouldn’t match the vibe of the other movies and would alienate people expecting an accessible action/adventure movie
The movie in my opinion was actually great. I never read the books so I didn’t have much to compare it to but it was so much better than I expected it to be.
The film itself baffles me less than the people who call it great. It is not the worst film I've ever seen, but the acting, plot, characters...everything just sucks compared to the other films, and I don't even consider a couple of those 'great'.
jokes aside, i read the book and was sorely disappointed when I went to watch the movie. they left out SO MANY details that were essential to snow’s character development??? i really really wanted to see how snow interacted with his classmates because that was the whole point of part 1: him hanging out with his friends and talking about the hunger games with them. so many details were left out and it just felt so incomplete that i was just shaking my head the entire time until the credits started rolling. if people have read the book and hoped that it would follow the source material, prepare to be absolutely let down. just go in with no expectations.
Damn, I enjoyed the book too and was looking forward to the movie, sucks to hear that it doesnt live up to expectations. From what it sounds like I guess they wouldve benefitted from making it into two separate movies.
@@harmonyquinn2557Same here I was actually one of the people who read the books before the movies came out... And those movies had to change some things which will always be the case when adapting a book to a movie but they still kept the vast majority of it as it was. And I'll just go ahead and say I'm really sick of people taking villains from old stories and trying to write an origin story that suddenly makes them sympathetic rather than the villains that they are. Like it's fine to do an origin story that shows how they went from maybe a good person to the villain but far too many of these are showing the villainin the last scene somehow being a good person and yet somehow off screen are supposed to turn into this awful person in the Is original.
@@bennnny_prodz oooo that’s actually a tough question. It’s hard to compare the two since they’re both fundamentally different films. One being a historical drama thriller while the other is fictional and based on a book. I’m going to have to say that Oppenheimer is better. I’m a sucker for Christopher Nolan.
i was really surprised to see you recast. While the actor did an okay job, he couldn’t have hoped to reach the level of raw emotion you evoked with your performance. Nothing against him of course, it’s just hard to live up to one of the most awe inspiring performances in cinematic history. They could have cast Deniro as district 8 hospital worker and he still wouldn’t have held a candle.
Typically, I agree with Charlie’s ratings of movies but honestly, this one is just wrong. Snows “ switch to the dark side “ isn’t random you could see from the very beginning he thought that they were superior to the districts and he never said that he disagreed with the hunger games. You could say he was blinded by love, but in his heart, there was always evil and you could see that. And if you read the book, the singing pretty much matches up, I agreed that it might be kind of cringe at times, but that is how it was written.
I totally agreed. I watched his review before watching the movie and thought "oh, that's a shame" then I watched the movie and I really enjoy it. Its no a masterpiece or anything, but Charlie's comments about Snow made no sense what so ever.
Charlie must be so proud to have been a part of such a historical movie. Jennifer Lawrence portraying the first female lead in an action movie is a momentous thing.
As someone who has read the book I am extremely disappointed in the movie. The book did a really good job of getting the reader to understand Snow without making him a sympathetic character. Also, the book was in three parts as well like Charlie said was same as the movie but because of how the book handled things Snow doing evil shit never felt out of place. The pacing in the book I felt was incredibly good.
Sounds like it really should've been two films like Charlie suggested. Anymore than that for one book would've been too much, like with The Hobbit trilogy.
I want to say that it failed because they got Snow wrong. Snow sometimes had the best intentions at hand and cared for Lucy but only because of his ego and want to become bigger and better as well as bring the Snows back on power, "Snow always lands on top". Eventually he began to question whether he was man or monster but never arrived at that conclusion mentally because he began to act out of selfishness and desire. Yes he did love her in the end and he somehow thought of her as his, but this was because he was possessive and ambitious as well as him trying to justify why he did those terrible things, "did it for us" and when he realizes "did it for me" he tries to discard her because the pain and panic of the realization is too much for him.
And I got all of that from the movie lol it comes down to the person and what he/she can interpret them fabricate in his mind what the reality should be that’s what you do whilst reading that’s what you can also do whilst watching the movie you can fill in the gaps movie was great
@@itzswaezy1573Absolutely. I got most of the more hidden aspects of his motives. I've never read the book, or watched any of the older movies, but from reading what others have said about the book, i say its equally fun and interesting to guess with the help of some small hints why someone is doing what they're doing instead of knowing the internal monolouge of a character.
as a big fan of the book. i thought they did a pretty good job. it is book accurate but it does miss a lot. it’s very clear in the book that snow had bad tendencies since the beginning (since it’s in his pov but i understand it’s hard to show that in a movie). it was a long movie so i get they had to cut stuff out, but yeah i think it could’ve been two parts.
Bc of the book I was able to see the nuances of the actor more like if you just watch the movie tou prob miss those and you get manipulated by snow into everyone making him look like an amazing person but when I know what I was looking for it was amazing. I personally loved the film thought they did great but I also knew what to look for in the nuances, I did think they should have made Lucy Grey slightly more feminine they tried her more of this katniss copy who sings but in the book she is nothing like katniss.
Honestly THANK YOU for saying this. I was looking for a comment like this lol. I actually thought a lot of things about the movie were good! I am not sure I would of understood as much tho if I wasn't already a fan of the book. But people hating on it too much...
@actingchick1906 I definitely think it should have been 2 movies or a mini-series half the side chacters in the book that where explored just got cut and you actually got to see Lucy Grey fleshed out as a character I also think that they tried to make Lucy Grey too much like katniss she is a completely different charcter and she's a lot more feminine in the books which they don't really show besides like for 30 seconds after the train scene
@@michaeldavis8918 i think that if it was split into two movies it would get the same treatment as mockingjay part 1 and 2. people would either hate ballad of songbirds and snakes part 1 or 2 (which ever one doesn’t have the 10th games) and say it’s boring and too much dialogue. i think they should have just added an extra 30 minutes and make the movie 3 hours to add more depth to some of the characters & snows interactions with them.
As someone that didn't read the books going in I enjoyed the characterization and the competent romance which is why I was completely bewildered when snow became slim shady and went crazy in the woods
It wasn't out of the left field that he became this way at all. In the beginning, you see him play both sides with his "friends" and Sejanus when the other is out of earshot. Later, you see that he doesn't grieve for the dead classmate like the others do, and finishes an essay that some (i.e. the dean) might consider pathological in one night. You then see his lack of empathy to help anyone but Lucy Gray, his ward, even if it is hidden by youthful naivete. He doesn't hesitate to cheat and lie through all his problems, and when in the arena, demonstrates a lack of care for his supposed friend, as well as an unnecessary amount of brutality against the district kid he kills. Later when he is on the train, you can see Sejanus being happy to be with him, but from what I recall Snow never showed anywhere near that level of happiness until he saw Lucy Gray, his prized songbird, alive again.
Charlie, I know Black Friday deals are supposed to be crazy good, but 100% off PCs until Nov 27th might be pushing it too far. Not that I would complain about receiving such a quality piece of technology for free, but you got a business to run, brother.
@Amelia-xt2kx Oh. He definitely did LOL I double-checked the website immediately after to make sure. I just don't want him landing himself in hot water for misspeaking :)
I fully believe "The ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is one of those books that wouldnt translate well into a stand alone movie. The story was good and i loved reading about the early life of the Hunger Games and President Snow. This was a story that had a lot of slow building to major events and subtle undertones that movies would have a hard time portraying to the viewer. Very sad to see this movie fail this way.
SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE I disagree to be fair. Snow didn't turn on his friend out of nowhere. Even when he saved him in the arena, he didn't do it for his friend, he did it for himself. That being said, when he sent the recording, it was to get his friend in trouble without getting him killed since at that time, his friend wasn't involved with a murder. But circumstances changed since the rebels had guns and the mayor's daughter or whatever died so that recording ended up being used to kill his friend and his friend's parents couldnt save him so thats why he broke down afterwards.
The book also felt rushed in the end. I had the same questions while reading the final chapters. It just felt like it had to establish him as a villain in the end so he can become the villain we know
this is great! I know a lot of people didn't like the romance, but I think it represented a lot of different things to Coriolanus. His "loving" Lucy was always about owning her and being in control and not about actual love. Honestly, I think that even if he didn't betray Sejanus that they still would've ended up breaking up or falling out because it was clear that he was not cut out for woodland life, and after he had possession of her for a while, the newness would fade and he would begin to resent her, imo.
He's more complicated than that, there's a good side of him, and a bad side, and we're witnessing his tipping point. There are lines when he think of Lucy as a means to success. But there are also lines when he think of Lucy as someone he love. The fact is, she's both to him, but he also only ever refer to her as one or the other, never both at the same time, and I think it's because of his tendency to obsessed over one thing and forgetting other (the one he revealed at the beginning of the novel). His possessive, and jealous thoughts on Lucy poped up here and there, but he never acted upon it. It's to show that he have that side, but not necessarily defined by it, yet. But maybe I miss something, it's been a while since I read the novel, so correct me if I'm wrong.
As someone who’s basically uninitiated in the hunger games franchise I think that this movie was incredible. I think it adds to the despair of snows character that he did (at least the movie version of him) have a good side to him. The fact that he changed so instantly was shocking and I think it delivered a better sense of drama to the film compared to if he had a slow and grey descent. I think people maybe focus too much on what they want a story to be and too little on appreciating what it is. The movie is not the book and vice versa. Had this movie been split into two parts I believe that the dramatic effect of snows transition from good to bad wouldn’t come off as a tragedy, it would come off as something that was meant to happen, which would feel way too obvious. Personally I enjoyed this movie a lot, and I think the fact that I didn’t really care for the hunger games franchise as a whole beforehand aids that. As a stand-alone movie it would be great. And I feel that most prequels have that same problem. People nitpick and care too much for the lore and the franchise and they fail to think about what would actually make an entertaining movie.
I read the book and haven't watched the movie yet, and im surprised they didn't split the movie into 2 parts. The book is longer than Mockingjay and they already split that one into 2 movies. The book has two separate parts that are very distinctive and would have worked well for a end and start of the two movies. Hopefully I can still enjoy the movie at least close to as much as I enjoyed the book.
I quite enjoyed it, as someone who hasn't read the book, but I did read the original three. I felt like they should have given more screen time to the first part and developed some relationships in the second part, That way, the third part could be a smoother transition. The third part needed a little more context, especially the end, but other than that, it was very enjoyable.
They didn't split the movie into two parts because they didn't want to make the same mistake like they did with Mockingjay. Francis Lawrence, director of Hunger Games movies (except for the first one) regret of splitting Mockingjay into two so he took the criticism and instead pushed this movie to just be one movie. Even if it's still doesn't work, I guess this should've been a miniseries instead of a movie
Its a shame hearing Charlie say that Snows "evil" actions come out of nowhere because the book does a fantastic job of starting Snow out almost likeable and then showing his decent down a dark path. I haven't seen the movie but the book is great.
i completely understand snow’s motives. he wants to be in a position of power, plain and simple. he tries to run away from panem because it gives him power to control his own life, but when that fails he decides to take a different route towards power. he kills because it makes him feel like he’s in control.
Honestly I think the movie does it as well as a movie could, you don’t get a lot of his inner monologue but the actor does a fantastic job of portraying it through facial expressions. I honestly think the movie is the best of the hunger games series and I’m genuinely surprised it’s getting this much hate
I really wish this movie was two movies. The book did a lot better of fleshing out snow and progressively changing him from a morally good person just trying to get by into a power hungry villan
Charlie is litrally the most well written district 8 hospital helper in the hunger games. He blend in perfectly with the other peope there infact so well that he himself had hard time finding him in the movie.
I had a rough night's sleep, but clinging on to the hope - nay, the DREAM - that Charlie would once again bring back the Hunger Games franchise to its former glory helped me get through the night. Oh, just thinking about him bringing back cinema's most iconic, Academy Award worthy character filled me with such joy and warmth! I felt safe and tucked in last night! Sometimes, when I feel the dark thoughts and the loneliness take over, I will watch that scene, over and over and over, just to feel some resemblence of happiness. And it never fails! I could watch that performance forever! So to be woken up this morning with these terrible news that Charles White won't.... I can't express the emotional pain that just shot through my entire body! I would rather go through ketoacidosis and my parents' divorced ten times over!!
Yeah,... I figure they already had to use special lenses and some Peter Jacksonesque forced perspective to make Rachel Zegler _not_ look like a 12-year-old. They could've just had Charlie standing next to her in every scene! Then everyone would've just gone:: "Oh I see; she's about the same height as Jesus." They did our boy dirty, no doubt
The book was actually really good, not too much lore but it does explain who the second winner of the games is from District 12, as well as Snows affiliations with roses and stuff. It's actually a great book, idk abt the movie tho
It was hard to get invested in the actual Hunger Games because the other tributes never got a real introduction and felt static. Especially that girl with the short red hair, she was just "grrrrrr I’m evvillllll" the entire time.
😂 she felt less like a survivor on the edge, and more like a feral dog the second she got the chance. Probably could have built on the fighters a little to show which ones are just seeing red and willing to do anything to step out the other side and whose probably going to end up on 10 different medications trying to sleep at night
I think they should’ve make it into two parts, but it must’ve been hard to turn the book into a movie cause the book always tells you what snow think and feel.
The way you're describing it sounds exactly like the book. I was confused the whole time about why snow was good and then at the end it was really rushed to be the bad guy and it came out of nowhere. Also, the amount of singing in the book made me think it might as well be a musical at this point 😂
he wasn’t good since the beginning. the first red flag was like 10 pages in when he alludes to the fact that tigris has to use her body to get money sometimes & there he is complaining about not having a rich enough looking shirt
I just watched despite how Charlie feels, as just a regular movie goer, I enjoyed it a lot. I went to an AMC theater for the first time with friends. It was a cool experience cause I got to drink 🍺 at the movies, that was dope. The whole movie theater was just super fancy, it was awesome. I liked Snows background. I can relate with the film being rushed, but it was still enjoyable. I liked seeing a more rustic Panem. It was cool to see the capital city being built and constructed. Dr. Gaul was an amazing character. She was so cynical and charismatic. She was so cool, she seemed to happy about being the games head game maker. I kinda liked how Dr. Gaul tested Snow the way she did. The books are always gunna be better. It’s one of those things. I think it was a cool movie. We can easily nitpick, but I’ve got nothing bad to say. I just wanna keep it positive.
No cameos at all. Would've been peak if Mr Games said "WE NEED BACKUP NOW!" and then they open up a Dr. Strange portal and Mr Critikal comes out n is like "ya'll need a hand Mr Games?" and Mr Games says, "yes please, but call me Hunger." Missed opportunity.
As someone who didn’t read the book, I thought the movie was really good. Good story, good character development, good dialogue, good cinematography. Went in with low expectations and was surprised. 7.5/10.

Honestly this is a horrible take. Saying snow randomly became evil like “flipping a switch” is such a crazy misrepresentation of what happened. He was never necessarily a good person. His love for Lucy Gray and his friend (forgot his name) drove him to be better. However his self preservation drove him to eat out his best friend because he was paranoid about killing the mayors daughter and he was starting to “feel the walls closing in” to put it in simple terms which drove him to that quick decision which he immediately regretted and drove him crazy. Then later when he fled with Grey, he mis-spoke which caused her to become cautious of him which she already established trust is more important to her than anything, as a rebel and all it makes sense ig. She started acting weird and he started becoming more paranoid about her betraying him or possibly urning him in which we see at the end with his paranoid hallucinations from the snake bite. I thought this was all well represented and made complete sense. The only thing you can possibly criticize is that they crammed a bit much into 2 and a half hours.

This!!!
i dont believe its too far fetched to think him at a younger age could possibly be an entirely different person.. considering its a good 40+ (idk the exact number) year difference between this and the present hunger games. i really liked the book and ive heard this is a pretty faithful adaptation so im actually looking forward to it
@@forgetfulsoul I think Snow is in his 80s at the time of The Hunger Games Trilogy.
Nah I think it’s evident, he slowly begins to show sociopathic tendencies and begins to become cold and unhinged.
Even Characters like that are not necessarily bad, they can be very self interested.
No it was clear he was willing to do whatever it takes to increase his status.. so it didn’t surprise me he was so cunning and eventually evil

The book is my favourite in the series, and I've been reading it to prepare for the film.
How does outlining the plot explain why the movie isn't bad?
@@anonymoususer5351 How do you not understand that I’m explaining his moral decline and how it wasn’t actually just some sudden unreasonable change? That the movie isn’t frivolous like the title implies? He turns out to be the villain and the movie does a good job at capturing that conversion.
@GageNevin every sentence you say is literally just describing what happens in the movie. There is nothing you add beyond summary to explain why it is good. Good writing? Good acting? Good emotional beats? I wouldn't know.

Watching the decline of his morality along with his and Lucy’s relationship had an emotional impact. There is also plenty of other scenes that bring intense emotion and have your full attention.
@razzlemekazzle then make it a mini seris have like 6 1 hour episodes then you can have slow moments and not feel like your having boring moments

As someone that didn't read the books going in I enjoyed the characterization and the competent romance which is why I was completely bewildered when snow became slim shady and went crazy in the woods
Exactly lmao 🤣
So im not the only one who noticed that XD
Glad it's not just me that did a double take there. Haha
I think he meant 100 dollars off because that's what it says on the website
@Amelia-xt2kx Oh. He definitely did LOL I double-checked the website immediately after to make sure. I just don't want him landing himself in hot water for misspeaking :)
@glo1708 I mean, I did say that I WOULDN'T complain LOL

I like how he actually gives them advice like they should have made 2 parts, and this could have been good
a
SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE
I disagree to be fair.
It just felt like it had to establish him as a villain in the end so he can become the villain we know
didnt ask + my animations are better
I feel like the movie did a really good job and was probably better than Mockingjay.
When Charlie said, "Food is cringe. I am The Hunger Games", everyone hungered all over the place. It made me so hungry for more.
I thought the whole video would just be “I’m not in it.”
this is great! I know a lot of people didn't like the romance, but I think it represented a lot of different things to Coriolanus. His "loving" Lucy was always about owning her and being in control and not about actual love. Honestly, I think that even if he didn't betray Sejanus that they still would've ended up breaking up or falling out because it was clear that he was not cut out for woodland life, and after he had possession of her for a while, the newness would fade and he would begin to resent her, imo.
q
d
He truly carried that entire franchise on his back

You're kind of off base about the reception of this movie. Critics liked it and a lot of people have given glowing reviews of it.
I read the book and haven't watched the movie yet, and im surprised they didn't split the movie into 2 parts. The book is longer than Mockingjay and they already split that one into 2 movies. The book has two separate parts that are very distinctive and would have worked well for a end and start of the two movies. Hopefully I can still enjoy the movie at least close to as much as I enjoyed the book.
didnt ask + my animations are better
I was thinking the same thing, I feel like it could have been good as 2 parts but it was still really good imo
The movie does a decent job idk what charlie is talking about
i completely understand snow’s motives. he wants to be in a position of power, plain and simple. he tries to run away from panem because it gives him power to control his own life, but when that fails he decides to take a different route towards power. he kills because it makes him feel like he’s in control.
I disagree with Charlie it was led to the whole time he was always the Narcissist
i feel that in the movie without reading the book idk what he's on about
Honestly I think the movie does it as well as a movie could, you don’t get a lot of his inner monologue but the actor does a fantastic job of portraying it through facial expressions.
Not enough 'Hunger', too many 'Games' *0/10*
The Fact That Charlie Didn't Appear In This As The Grandfather Of District 8 Hospital Helper Is A Disappointment Like No Other.
Then everyone would've just gone:: "Oh I see; she's about the same height as Jesus."
They did our boy dirty, no doubt
The book was actually really good, not too much lore but it does explain who the second winner of the games is from District 12, as well as Snows affiliations with roses and stuff. It's actually a great book, idk abt the movie tho

It was hard to get invested in the actual Hunger Games because the other tributes never got a real introduction and felt static. Especially that girl with the short red hair, she was just "grrrrrr I’m evvillllll" the entire time.
Movie was horrid
😂 she felt less like a survivor on the edge, and more like a feral dog the second she got the chance. Probably could have built on the fighters a little to show which ones are just seeing red and willing to do anything to step out the other side and whose probably going to end up on 10 different medications trying to sleep at night
Rachel Zegler is in it, so it was doomed from the beginning of production
"100% off PC's"
Wow Charlie is so humble!
I think they should’ve make it into two parts, but it must’ve been hard to turn the book into a movie cause the book always tells you what snow think and feel.
The Hunger Games is bad when Charlie's not in it
The way you're describing it sounds exactly like the book. I was confused the whole time about why snow was good and then at the end it was really rushed to be the bad guy and it came out of nowhere. Also, the amount of singing in the book made me think it might as well be a musical at this point 😂
w
s
he wasn’t good since the beginning. the first red flag was like 10 pages in when he alludes to the fact that tigris has to use her body to get money sometimes & there he is complaining about not having a rich enough looking shirt
snow was never really "good" from the begining though, he was definitely more sympathetic though
Singing???
The Hunger Games movies were exactly what the Hunger Games books were trying to warn us about.
Charlie not being on the Hunger Games is really dropping its quality.

I don’t know why they made a new Hunger Games movie when the series peaked at Mocking Jay part 1 with the District 8 hospital helper
I couldn’t imagine how great this movie would’ve been with the correct background actors
Worst part for me is that the book is one my favourite in the Hunger Games series and then this movie comes out-
Dude same it was so fucking good. District 8 Hospital Helper carried the scene where Lucy wins the Games

I can’t wait for the Charles White cut of Hunger Games
As someone who didn’t read the book, I thought the movie was really good. Good story, good character development, good dialogue, good cinematography. Went in with low expectations and was surprised. 7.5/10.
their first new movie in 8 years, it’s like making a new Twilight film. it was primarily the book sales through the 2000s that garnered hype for this franchise.
Charlie must’ve been on the edge of his seat while watching the movie in anticipation to find out if he was in it or not. Can’t imagine the pain he must’ve felt when he realized it wasn’t coming
This was funny. But for all the wrong reasons

Charlies probably jealous they didn’t give him a major casting role this time around.
Wow hollywood truly has no shame, not letting charlie reprise his iconic role is a insult of the highest
q
Imagine knowing you have a star whose claim to fame is being a hand in a scene and not giving that star a second *much more apparent and active* role. You're part of the lore! People watch the film just to look for the scene with you in it!
q
You being the leading actor of the Hunger Games, it's truly unfortunate to see the series hit such lows. We're with you, Charlie.

Any movie starring Rachel Zegler is bound to fail
Another reason this movie will fail, is that the people of the internet hate Rachel Zegler, and not really for a solid reason. They just hate her and i think any movie or show she is in is going to bomb because of these internet trolls. I can see in 10-15 years everyone will revisit the movies and shows she is in an realize that we did her wrong. It's so weird how people ganged up on her like a bunch of middle schoolers.
