Funnily i was actually watching this on a LG G5 and yes i can remove my LG G5 battery anytime and everywhere in less than 5 minutes by pressing a button and pulling the bottom part. 3 years later with the LG G8 they decided to seal the battery permanently. They actually used to make batteries sealed back in 2012 and 2013 with the LG Optimus G and LG G2 but those phones didn't use permanent adhesive. It's a shame that newer counterparts were a downgrade to the older ones. It's not just that but i noticed off that phones in 2024 doesn't have a removable battery, SD card slot and headphone jacks where i heavily rely on no wonder why i am still holding my hands on a LG G5 despite it's a 8 year old phone but it at least has all of my needs. I will only get my next phone only if they put SD cards, removable batteries and headphone jacks back. Removable batteries is very important since if it swells you can easily remove it. A swollen battery must be removed and replaced ASAP as this can damage the other componente of a phone such as the screen and etc.
Here's a tip: If you need to remove a battery for replacement you can fully discharge first by attaching a resistor across it or even just leaving the phone turned on until it dies, a battery discharged to the protection chip threshold is very unlikely to catch fire even if crushed or punctured since the mechanism that starts the wild explosive fires we have seen needs electrical energy to heat up the internals of the battery. Still, disassembly should be done outside or at least near something fireproof like an oven pan to throw the burning phone into...

The heatpipe internal 'dirt' is quite important. It is sintered material that acts as a wick allowing the heatpipe to work in any orientation. Without it, the liquid-gas phase change would only work if the heat source is always positioned downhill of the pipe. Search for how heatpipes work.
No mention of MLT-STD 810G transit drop rating with low temperature resistance. That's one reason i like LG's phones. They can take a hit. Thay's probably why the 🔋 is cemented in. Also, that's not dirt in the thermal heat pipe....lol it's actually copper dust which isn't usually pure so it looks like...dirt.
Back in my day, if you dropped your phone 1 foot the whole back falls off and the battery would slide across the floor 😂 I didn't know if miss those days
Strain isn't good for the ribbon cable, and a small amount of space is given so the battery can naturally expand and contract due to temperature and wear changes. A loose battery could damage the ribbon cable and/or disconnect, rendering the phone useless. Plus, bouncing around could also bend the corner of the battery, which could cause it to blow up like the Nite 7 did.
@@shanez1215 this aint a joke either, i used to work in a facility that repaired iphones, some idiot forgot the new pull tab adhesive under his new battery and the battery got punctured by the pcb causing us to have to evacuate the floor for half an hour

Persuaded IDA to buy G8s.

@@98dizzard if anything, wouldn't a rough texture make it harder for a liquid to move through it? Or would it work similar to how paper takes water up above where it's touching water
@@PotatoJunkee the inside of heat pipes are rough for capillary action, exactly as you describe. Otherwise the pipe would be reliant on gravity and only work one way up.

I had LG's for a long time. Every single one I had, 4 or 5 different models, had an issue with the battery requiring either battery or full device replacement. I had upwards of 5 LG K10's and 4 LG G6's (locked in contract but had insurance) every single one had battery issues. I have a Note 9 now and I'm not going back to LG
I really don't know the reasoning behind LG pulling this stunt with the battery, a person's right to repair their phones as they see fit is honestly pretty cool but is also the essential part of owning a investment such as a flagship phone. Thanks, Zach! Edit: Zach is his real name and I keep mistaking it, BRB about to cry in the corner
I think we're gonna see the same from other manufacturers. The last couple of years smartphone technology is slowing. Phones from 2016 can easily be still used today. The new phones just have a couple of more gimmicks that are rarely used by the average person. And most people wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars just to have the newest phone while their old one is still good. That's why manufacturers have to make their phones last just a couple of years so people would buy their new ones.
@Samsung Galaxy S7 edge yeah, i had a nexus 5 (which was made by lg) and it was a great phone. It was so easy to repair. I've cracked the screen and just replaced it, I've changed the battery two times without a problem. The only issue was a little connector which I've damaged unfortunately and the screen was flickering sometimes. It was annoying and had to get a new phone, but the nexus is still working and i would've use it if it wasn't that problem
@Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Got mine the exact same time, just as well I bring a power bank with me. Should probably get it replaced soon seeing as newer phones all look garbage.
The dirt inside the cooling pipe acts as cooling fins just like on our water cooled bikes and car's. But on a smaller scale. Its helps absorption of heat much effective and transfer it to the liquid.
Looks like if you remove the rear glass, you could hit the area behind the battery (the metal structure) you could safely get some heat into the adhesive without smoking the battery. Makes the battery replacement more involved, but should reduce the risks associated with the heavy prying and bending that's necessary when removing the old battery.
Nice, you actually charged the battery from 11% to 14% by bending it. Thanks for showing us this trick. It might come in handy someday.

Baldy....lol
LG should've added *No JerryRigEverything* warning on the battery

I was waiting for this video, it's just a shame the way they glue these batteries in nowadays.
eric jones crackheads pissing me off
Back in my day, if you dropped your phone 1 foot the whole back falls off and the battery would slide across the floor 😂 I didn't know if miss those days
The battery is captive, why even have adhesive?!?
Right lol
Forced obsolescence... they dont want people to extend the service of the device.
@@forceablepizza764 Oof, admittedly I reused the adhesive from my old battery, but the s6 edge didn't use pull tabs, so all the adhesive was left behind on the midframe and could secure the new battery in place.

Well when the battery dies out. You dont need the old battery; if it gets damage that is the only GOOD NEWS. Therefore the LG Bt41 battery replacement cost is just17.00 on ebay so its still replaceable. Just wear gloves and a eyes glasses and take your time. I think replacement of the battery should be 18months. Also all integrated battery replacements are dangerous it dont matter what company. Keep posting brother. Love the video. Can you do a screen replacement on this phone.
Can you do a m20 durability test? You're the best youtuber with these kinda things please make one =)
Such a shame on the battery removal by LG as their phones have been really good since the G6. I've only been fixing phones since last September, but long enough to see all the newer phones are becoming more anti-repair.
Looking forward for the Nubia magic 3 teardown quite curious about their cooling system with the fan built into a small and compact device
I believe the "dirt" in the heat pipe is meant to rough the surface, drastically increasing surface area for thermal transfer
Was under the impression it helped the condensed liquid to wick back from the cold side to the hot side.
@@98dizzard interesting, although when you hold your phone it's typically oriented so that the liquid would drip back down to the processor, although that wouldn't really do much lying down. So what you're saying makes sense to me
Nice video. Post credits scene was amazing surprise.
LG - You can't tear this phone.
Jerry - hold my beer🤣🍺
@Samsung Galaxy S7 edge My S7 could probably use a new battery, though.
@Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Got mine the exact same time, just as well I bring a power bank with me. Should probably get it replaced soon seeing as newer phones all look garbage.
@Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Agreed
I would recommend LG not to use permanent adhesive to the battery cause it might cause harm during battery replacement 👍
LG: *Thinking about not being reviewed by Jerry so make use of permanent adhesive*
Jerry: *Does it anyway*
LG: Am I a joke to you?
