Been on the 606 a number of times as a pedestrian. But I gotta say...I doubt I'll ever ride it. All the people and kids and dogs. Just watching this was making me anxious. But it is a great trail overall.
I can understand that, it definitely can get pretty crowded. I think it's usually pretty manageable on a bike if you take it slow. Just don't expect to set any speed records.
try to ride it on a day when its not so busy. slow down and ring your bell and you will have no problem getting past dogs and children. its such a nice ride.
The only issue are the rich guys with their expensive bikes and gear. They be racing pretending that the bike path belongs only to them. They wont slow down for anyone.
@@littlerockdoc3183 wouldn't make a difference . Pedestrian would walk all over the bike path giving no fucks if they are in your way trying too bike ride
What a great trail. You're lucky to have such a gem, especially if it's within biking distance of your home. I was able to bike part of the Longleaf Trace near Hattiesburg, MS yesterday, and though I thoroughly enjoyed the time on the trail, I don't like the idea I have to drive by car to get to it from New Orleans.
Fortunately this trail is only 5.5 miles from my home and the route there consists almost entirely of quiet residential streets and protected bike lanes. I agree, there is something special about actually being able to cycle all the way to your destination.
The 606 is a great path that's definitely worth checking out. Also be sure to visit the Lakefront Trail (here's a ride I shot from a few months ago: ruclips.net/video/EeOxqTf6ags/видео.html). Hope you have a great trip!
Love riding this trail as a small part of biking around the city. Its pretty short for biking overall. If it could be extended from the lakefront to Oak Park that would great. 😀 I usually go pretty slow along the trail to make it last and not stress the pedestrians when passing and there are a lot of children and pets.
It's a really cool trail, but way too crowded. There's not enough room for two pedestrians to walk side-by-side so one is always walking in the bike lane. It's a bad design, they needed to make the pedestrian lane twice as wide.
Please don't do photoshoots on a bike path. It's inconsiderate to the people trying to use it for it's intended purpose. Not everything is your art project.
such a great trail. i walked the entirety of it while in Chicago a few months back. In Atlanta, we have the belt line trail which is like the 606 flipped on its head and injected with steroids. when it’s all complete it will be a 22 mile completely paved loop around the city centered around housing, entertainment and restaurants.
@@tuvideoloco6551 there are sections of the beltline that’s already complete . the main section which is on the east side is complete. that’s about a 2 mile paved section with restaurants and green spaces. a lot of the beltline is unpavedbut you can still travel through it. there’s a section of the west side which is complete with a coupe of breweries.
It looks like a nightmare for biking which is what they constructed it for, unfortunately. Too narrow. Not enough signage to remind people that it is intended to be for biking and they need to keep aware of their surroundings if they want to bring dogs and wagons
They should connect those buildings on the side. Have little bridges and maybe patios all along it so people can have a pedestrian street connected right to their buildings and businesses. Imagine running a little cafe with a little seated patio area that connects to that path. You'd get hella walk-ins all day long.
Yeah this would just create a safety issue. Have you ever tried biking somewhere that attracts casual pedestrian activity? Here at least there is nowhere really for people to go but walk down the path. If you add what you are describing you will get a monstrosity like the old bike path by navy Pier. The number of friends I knew who got injured commuting because some tourist decided to randomly run across the path without warning was insane. This path is already dangerous enough for biking with how overcrowded it is with large groups of people walking, dogs, etc. Notice how most of the runners understand that you're supposed to stick to the outer blue edge but none of the walkers do? Now add some family with children grabbing ice cream.
Its a nice path but doesnt seem bike friendly. Way too many people walking. I like to ride at a pretty good pace. This has safety hazard written all over it.
It looks almost as bad as the bike path was when passing by navy Pier until they built the flyover. If you bike here you're just asking to get injured eventually from somebody's carelessness with their dog or wagon or whatever. It's a shame since it was built with money that was intended to help with bike/transit accessibility. But Chicago has always been a complete farce when it comes to being bikeable. I tried it once years ago and while it's improved in a few very narrow scopes, it remains utterly nightmarish. I knew a guy who used to commute by bike every day. He retired and shortly after he was paralyzed by an accident that would have been avoidable if they didn't build these monstrosities and call them biking ammenities.
5:54 The 8-story T.O.D. just built at Western is ugly and took away a great view South. It's too high and too close to the 6O6 Trail. IMO. Enjoyed the video.👍
No because in Europe they would have labeled the foot path and made it big enough for 2 by 2 walking. Here people think they are supposed to avoid the blue strip when in reality you're meant to be walking/running in that
What is the neighborhood like? Is parking in a relatively safe or secure area? I haul my bike in a twelve foot long enclosed trailer and am concerned about leaving my pick-up truck and trailer unattended.
It's cool, just apparently people don't understand that it should be used by bikes. Maybe there are just not enough pedestrian spaces other than this bike path.
Nice. We need more infrastructure like this. This one reminds me of videos from the Netherlands and Denmark.
I Love The 606. There's two 606-esque trails planned for the South Side, one in Englewood and the other in Bronzeville.
0:59 "bicycles!" 🚲yep, we're here too
I've never been on this trail. Looks nice. I like the sound of the birds.
You will love it.

They should’ve made it wider, with dedicated biking and walking lanes. Amsterdam that shit.

I first experienced the 606 the summer of 2019. Really enjoyed it!
AWESOME! Great Virtual Tour! 😊👍😊👍 So Cool!

That would be nice come on city of Chicago!

Great job on this video. Thanks! No I know what to look forward to.
road itself seems nice but with so much foot traffic I will avoid at all costs. god damn those DOGS!!! no way in hell.
Great area. Love wicker park
I've only ridden my bike on the Northshore channel trail.
Vastly safer than the design disaster of the 606. I can feel my spine breaking just watching this.

Is there a place to rent a bike nearby? Thank you
What camera do you use?
I use a GoPro Hero 9 mounted on a gimbal that I just hold in my hand.

@@BiologyIsHot I remember the navy pier bike path, and on second thought you are absolutely right.
Is it a bike path or a walking path?
It’s technically a multi-use trail for biking, walking, running, etc.
Thanks for the clarification. I’m moving there in about a month and trying to get an understanding of the bike infrastructure. :)

Should just be a walking path. The bikes should be confined to surface streets.
No it shouldn’t

yea but the public bathrooms connected to the trail are nice
If you're actually into cycling, it isn't even in the top 3 best bike paths in Chicago.... Unless you're under the age of 5
