Exploring Chicago by bicycle
Chicago Bike Ride: Fulton Street [4K]
August 6, 2022 - I'm back after what's been a busy summer to film a ride down Fulton Street. I rode from downtown to Metric Coffee, my new favorite roastery in Chicago. Fulton Street and the Fulton Market District are still up-and-coming areas with lots of warehouses, factories, bars, and restaurants. Even though some segments of the street are pretty wide, there is little traffic so it's a nice calm route to bike on.

Dublin Ireland Cycling Virtual Tour [4K]
Просмотров 8972 года назад
April 23, 2022 - Chicago by Bike is on the road again, this time in Dublin, Ireland. This virtual tour captures a bike ride down the Grand Canal Cycle Way to the River Liffey on the east side of the city. The bike path runs along the Grand Canal and provides a comfortable space for transportation and recreation. I used dublinbikes, a public bike-share system, for the ride. The bike only cost €5...
Chicago Virtual Tour | Cycling from Lincoln Park to The 606 [4K]
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 года назад
Apr 5, 2020 - This virtual tour captures my bike ride from Lincoln Park to start The 606 bike path. I rode west on Armitage before continuing on Cortland Street. The route bisects the vibrant Lincoln Park neighborhood. While there is a bike lane for the entire route, I consider its design to be inadequate for the amount of car traffic on these streets. Either way, it's certainly a scenic ride t...
Spring Virtual Bike Ride on Chicago's Lakefront Trail [4K]
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
Mar 21, 2022 - Spring is officially here in Chicago... well sort of. On this particular ride the temperature was 70ºF (21ºC), the warmest it's been in months. But it true Chicago fashion, the warmth was short lived, and the days following the ride were cold and rainy. I rode from Prairie District in South Loop, north on the Lakefront Trail by Soldier Field, and finished just near the Field Muse...
GREEN RIVER: Chicago St Patrick's Day River Dyeing [4K]
Просмотров 4282 года назад
Mar 12, 2022 - Though it was a chilly 17ºF (-8ºF), Chicago came alive for the annual St. Patty's Day river dyeing. The last official dyeing of the Chicago River was in 2019. 2020's dyeing was canceled due to COVID-19 and 2021's dyeing was unannounced and had little fanfare. This 60-year-old tradition was started by the Chicago Plumber's Union and they use 50lbs of orange, vegetable-based dye to...
Chicago Downtown Ride | Union Park to the Chicago Board of Trade [4K]

Mar 6, 2022 - This video captures a ride from Union Park in West Loop to the Chicago Board of Trade in the Loop. From Union Park I rode east down Washington Boulevard before turning south on LaSalle. LaSalle is one of the more impressive streets in the Loop with the Board of Trade sitting on the south end of the street. I finished the ride by the Board of Trade in front of two statutes represen...
Chicago Virtual Bike Tour | Bridgeport to Chinatown [4K]
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
Feb. 27, 2022 - Chicago's Chinatown is one of the largest and fastest-growing Chinatowns in the US. The vibrant neighborhood (and the surrounding area) is a great place to explore by bike, even during the winter. I rode from Palmisano Nature Park in Bridgeport, through Armour Square to Chinatown, before finishing in Ping Tom Park. Along the way I passed through Chinatown Square, an outdoor mall...
Chicago Winter Bike Ride FAIL | Snowy 55th Street Virtual Tour [4K]
Просмотров 6172 года назад
Feb. 20, 2022 - I decided to check out the protected bike lane on 55th Street between Washington Park and Promontory Point in Hyde Park. I seriously don’t know what I was expecting but the bike lane was an absolute mess of snow and ice. Considering our last snow was 4 days prior, this is truly unacceptable. Chicago needs to do better. Disappointment aside, I started the ride in Washington Park ...
Winter Bike Ride Down Blue Island Avenue in Chicago [4K]

Feb. 12, 2022 - This video captures a short ride south on Blue Island Avenue from Roosevelt Road to Cermak Road. Blue Island is a diagonal road that cuts through Pilsen on the west side of Chicago and has a descent on-street bike lane. This was actually my first time riding down Blue Island and I was happy most of the snow had been cleared from the bike lane. Route Map: bit.ly/3JzeQYl #chicago ...
Ebike Ride through Snowy City Streets [4K]
Просмотров 8662 года назад
Feb 6, 2022 - Chicago’s cold can be brutal, but there really are only a few weeks of the year, at the height of winter, where the snow sticks around and the streets become a slushy mess. This video is a demonstration of what it’s like to ride an ebike through the city during one of these weeks. In the days prior, the city received up to 12 inches (30 cm) of snow, none of which has melted yet. Y...
Amazing Chicago Sunrise | Winter Bike Ride to Adler Planetarium [4K]
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 года назад
Jan 29, 2022 - Sunrises in Chicago over Lake Michigan are usually pretty beautiful, but they're even moreso in wintertime when there's snow on the ground and the lake is frozen. It was 5ºF (-15ºC) when I rode from the Southbank Riverwalk across South Loop to the Alder Planetarium. I arrived at the planetarium just after the sun rose above the water leading to a stunning sunrise over the frozen ...
Frozen Chicago Lakefront | Cycling from North Ave Beach to DuSable Harbor [4K]
Просмотров 9352 года назад
Jan. 22, 2022 - As we enter the height of winter, the ice in Lake Michigan is starting to become more well-defined. I rode from North Avenue Beach to DuSable Harbor to get a good view of the lake. At the end of the video, you can see DuSable Harbor was mostly frozen over with a few ice fishermen out on the water. It's always a strange sight to see them out fishing downtown in the winter. Route ...
Chicago Winter Lakefront Trail Bike Ride | Burnham Harbor to Oakwood Beach [4K]
Просмотров 6462 года назад
Jan 15, 2022 - I rode south on the Lakefront Trail from Boat Drinks at Burnham Harbor to Oakwood Beach on a cold winter day. Boat Drinks is a fun outdoor bar featuring live music and drinks during the summer; however, on the day I shot this video, the temperature was 24ºF (-4ºC) so the bar was understandably empty. There was a light dusting of snow on the ground and ice was beginning to form in...
Chicago Riverwalk | Frigid Nighttime Winter Ride [4K]
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
Jan 6, 2022 - It was a frigid 8°F (-13°C) when I filmed this ride along the Chicago Riverwalk on a weekday night. Typically, the riverwalk is packed with pedestrians soaking in the beautiful downtown views, that is, when it's not well below freezing. On this evening the Riverwalk was nearly deserted with only a few brave souls out exploring. The nighttime lights of the city are absolutely stunn...
Biking Chicago's Snowy Lakefront in a Winter Storm [4K]
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.2 года назад
Jan. 1, 2022 - New Year's day brought some real winter weather to Chicago so I grabbed my bicycle with studded winter tires and cycled from Museum Campus to Northerly Island. Conditions were quite treacherous with 40mph (65km/h) winds and persistent snow. My route started on the Lakefront Trail, which the Park District usually does a good job keeping clear regardless of the weather. I made my w...

Beautiful location! Although I will feel anxious biking along that route, because there's almost nothing can stop me from falling into the river.
Riding a bike on Riverwalk is very bad idea!
Thanks for helping me get farther from where I last did. I couldn’t get past the Hammond marina cuz I’m dumb but watching this video helped
Thanks for the helpful tour me and wifey are going to take that path with our E-bikes this sat or Sunday, the heat wave should be over by then.
Bikes should be allowed
Signs posted no bikes
Bikes are allowed here despite what any signs might say.
What is the neighborhood like? Is parking in a relatively safe or secure area? I haul my bike in a twelve foot long enclosed trailer and am concerned about leaving my pick-up truck and trailer unattended.
Disappoint. Too damn crowded.
The American road signage is confusing. Is it Yield to Peds, or Peds to Yield? As a foreigner I would read it as Peds to Yield.
Interesting observation. In this case it’s “Yield to Peds.”
Dopeee where do thiis start???? Love your vids thank you!!!
What was once referred to as beer can alley.
If you're actually into cycling, it isn't even in the top 3 best bike paths in Chicago.... Unless you're under the age of 5
Should just be a walking path. The bikes should be confined to surface streets.
No it shouldn’t
That was fast! Nice video; thanks for posting. @chicagobybike
Wonderful place to visit, and unwind. A gentle bike ride, not a race track that some prefer. 😊
What camera do you use?
I use a GoPro Hero 9 mounted on a gimbal that I just hold in my hand.
It’s a bike path why are people their walking theirs dogs all in the way 😅
I first experienced the 606 the summer of 2019. Really enjoyed it!
Brrr.
Terrible. There shouldn't be any people walking there.
I Love The 606. There's two 606-esque trails planned for the South Side, one in Englewood and the other in Bronzeville.
damn, they got bollards on the entrances of the paths 🥲 that must be nice to not have cars going through them
Wat are using to record? Also cool vid
Thanks! I shot it on a GoPro HERO9 mounted on a gimbal.
Thank you, dude! I'm gonna do it.
Is it a bike path or a walking path?
It’s technically a multi-use trail for biking, walking, running, etc.
Thanks for the clarification. I’m moving there in about a month and trying to get an understanding of the bike infrastructure. :)
Show this to a Republican and ask them to justify a wall over this beautiful piece of American infrastructure.
Is there a place to rent a bike nearby? Thank you
what is the name for this bike trail?
Beautiful path! Wow.
Would you mind sharing how you mount your camera? It’s so smooth and stable, I’m guessing it’s mounted on the bike frame and not on the handlebars
I have a GoPro mounted to a gimbal that I just hold in my hand while I ride. I’ve experimented with a bunch of different setups but this gives the best results imo.
That stretch of Wabash is no fun for anyone.
Looks like another Chicago "bike path" to get maimed and killed on.
Heyyy- can ebikes be used along this same route????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
I don’t see why not!
I don’t think your allowed to ride a bike down there correct me if I’m wrong 😊
That’s a common misconception but you are allowed to ride here, though on a busy day I wouldn’t recommend it unfortunately.
@@chicagobybike thanks for the replay .’learned something new and lived here my whole life lol
@@chicagobybike that video is amazing was it shot on 360 or go pro ?
@@Taduuuu It’s shot on a GoPro HERO9 mounted on a gimbal that I just hold in my hand.
@@chicagobybike works out really great
Wow a car is so high tech: it's stuck in traffic! A bicycle is low tech moves through traffic and is sustainable transportation! This is a beautiful video. Here in the Bahamas we don't have bike lanes. Therefore I lane-split, sidewalk, side roads. That helps to keep me safe on these narrow roads. I hope to produce some videos of how we do this stuff in the Bahamas. Thank you for this inspirational video!!!
Many tents under the bridge.
Yep.. its not the promise of liberalism.. let tax payers have sidewalks at least 😞
They should connect those buildings on the side. Have little bridges and maybe patios all along it so people can have a pedestrian street connected right to their buildings and businesses. Imagine running a little cafe with a little seated patio area that connects to that path. You'd get hella walk-ins all day long.
Yeah this would just create a safety issue. Have you ever tried biking somewhere that attracts casual pedestrian activity? Here at least there is nowhere really for people to go but walk down the path. If you add what you are describing you will get a monstrosity like the old bike path by navy Pier. The number of friends I knew who got injured commuting because some tourist decided to randomly run across the path without warning was insane. This path is already dangerous enough for biking with how overcrowded it is with large groups of people walking, dogs, etc. Notice how most of the runners understand that you're supposed to stick to the outer blue edge but none of the walkers do? Now add some family with children grabbing ice cream.
@@BiologyIsHot I remember the navy pier bike path, and on second thought you are absolutely right.
Why are people wearing helmets? Is it that unsafe?
You should always wear a helmet biking...that's like biking 101. You can always fall and I'd you are going even a little fast you could literally die. Don't be a dumbass.
Hi, what street did you begin on in Battery Park
Those potholes tho...
There is SO MUCH wrong with this infrastructure!!! Too many points of conflict!!! Too many opportunities to get doored!! Too many careless drivers making the bike lane on obstacle rather than a means of passage. I’m SO GLAD Chicago decided to put in protected bike lanes!!
Nice 👍 Chicago is one of the beautiful city I visited. We did the riverwalk in the evening 👍
I walk this trail all the time friendly people some won't say hi to you LMAO.
The beauty of that sunrise over the lake just takes my breath away. Thanks so much for recording it for all of us to see.
Thank you
Loving your videos!
Wonderful!
Beautiful, I ride myself and even like to take the train ride into Chicago just to bike around, but I like racing over cruising lol
Thank you for making this
I remember exploring those Bridgeport homes with my friend back when they were making that area. I grew up on 31st st. I miss that place.
I can feel comfortable in the calm cityscape with many trees. Shooting on a bicycle is more fun than shooting from a car because it runs on narrow roads.
