I really enjoyed your video. I will be in Gdansk (and around Poland) next August and will follow some of your advice. Your girls are amazing, lucky to have a mother like you (I was lucky enough to have a grandmother who gave me a passion for travel, and it's the best thing that can be done).
What a wonderful childhood. Learning by traveling. Thank you for this film. I'm wery proud cause I was actually born in beautiful Gdansk and went to Music Academy there. As 18 years old in 1980 I remember Solidarity and Lech Walęsa's uprising. We were wery active as well throwing balons with red paint on Lenins statue. Thanks igen for this vlog.
Thank you so much, I was looking for information about Gdanzk, since I started traveling I have always wanted to visit this city but I've never had the opportunity. I hope the new year can open more opportunities to travel. The world is so beautiful and we have the opportunity and good fortune to discover it.
It was great to see my old town Gdańsk, thank you for that! This is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and I had a privilege to live there for many years and my sons were born there as well. Girls, you are eloquent, beautiful, and you are very lucky to be traveling like this with your parents :-) Oh, and I am writing from Ontario, Canada:-)
I was born in Gdansk as well, lived in Przymorze by the beach , study in Gdynia and end up in London Ontario Canada. Small world. I miss the sea and beautiful architecture of Gdansk, rich history and open people on the streets of Sopot. Great video. Thank you
What a lovely family you are. Girls are so adorable and they have wonderful mom. I enjoy a lot watching your movies. Keep up with the amazing work you do. And I'm really happy to see you feeling good in our country and you've had a good time here.

Enjoyed every minute of this video. We were all entertained by your joy of sharing your experience in this beautiful city. Hope to find more videos like this one. 😃👏
That was an eye-opener for me. Having followed the struggles of Lech Wałęsa and Solidarność in the 1980s, I expected Gdansk to be a grim industrial town, not the beautiful place you portray.
I presume the new build outskirts, where the industries are, looks differently from the center of the city. The center is rebuild because there were heavy fightings spring 45, but Poland took great pains to rebuild really nicely....
That's the first time I am watching anything from you and I am already in love. You guys are such a great team, as all families should be. Anyway, you do a great job of bringing up your kids, they are so smart.
I am grateful and delighted you're advertising my city. Just to add a few anecdotes to your great video, the place where you spent the night at the beginning of your video is my neighbourhood called Zaspa. This neighbourhood hosted the city airport till the 70's when a new airport was built outside the city. On its place they built, as you stated, communist blocks of flats which till the end of 90's were all grey (unpainted). From then on they were painted to look more cheerful and attractive. There're also plenty of murals and street art some of which you've shown on your video. The neighbourhood itself is very big and stretches up to the seaside where there's a huge revamped park that then goes up to the next town called Sopot (shown at the end of your video) with plentiful bike roads for bikers, runners, skateboarders and the like.
Ghe, ghe, watching from Gdansk. Originally from the Netherlands, but I've been working and living here since August 1st 2016. You were there August 2018, I could see that by state of the new apartment buildings along the river and August is the month of the Year Market.
Love visiting Poland my very good friend was with me in Gdynia and we took identical photos in mid 70s on Sopot Pier and it was amazing 30 years later to take same photos at same place..some fabulous changes to see x
Wow, I've read through a few comments and have to agree with them. You have a beautiful family. Your girls will be miles ahead of their peers. How engaging and articulate they all are; amazed at the genuinely beautiful, yet simple amber 'bugs', but empathetic in their responses to the atrocities that man can do unto others. After all that I have to say the information I received from the vlog about Gdansk was amazing! I'm subscribed!!
Cute family. I and my family are American. We moved permanently moved to Gdańsk. Life here is far superior to life back in America. Come back in a few years. Its growing fast like a Chinese city.
I used to live in one of those Americans admired baroque apartments, hated, it was cold with high ceilings. Always wanted to live in one of those " building blokes " homes. To me, they were cozy and warm.... How times change, now these brick apartments cost millions.
Great! Thanks for sharing it. The Buildings' picture remind me my city in Brazil. Belo Horizonte downtown is similar. A question... which program are using to show the Map of the countries. Very, very cool! I watching from Cambodia. #commongroundscafe #tiagocamboja
LOL I miss my city, but you guys visiting Zaspa, I did not see that coming. I grew up in Zaspa. When i was about 9 y old walking to the school, construction workers dig up remains of defenders executed by German solders in Zaspa (polish post office 5:15 ). Gdansk is very specific city with very long history over 1000 years old, I love it. Not to far from Gdansk is Malbork Castle .... biggest in the world if you like history try to stop by. Have fun.
Everyone's who interesting history and this type of museums highly recommended to visit the House of Terror in Budapest. Great video. I been in Poland couple of times but never in Gdansk. I love Morskie Oko and the surrounding area so much, I think one of the best holiday destination.
Hey there! Welcome to Poland, I quite enjoyed watching your adventures and it's so great that you travel with children and work everything out together. I wanted to add few things to the points you were making about the history of Gdańsk, as I thought the things you said might give the impression of Gdańsk and Pomerania being solely a German area before the WW2, which would be rather incorrect. Polish and German elements have been mixing here ever since the Polish ruler Konrad of Masovia invited German Teutonic order (the 1200s) to come over and help defend Poland from pagan tribes of Prussians, who were located in today's Kaliningrad, Lithuania, Latvia etc., and were organising frequent raids. The Teutonic order has overstayed its welcome, and through German settlement in the area, founded its own ("Teutonic") state, competing with Poland. Poland replaced one headache with another, as the two states would often find themselves warring. Later on due to high taxes, some of the cities of the Teutonic state would rebel and join the Polish Crown (at the time multi-ethnic and multi-rligious) as a German-speaking province Royal Prussia (name appropriated from the pagan tribe that used to exist there). With some later changes the name Prussia was used o denote the German province/state that you mentioned. Polish and German history of this area are very intertwined, which is still visible in local names (such as mine). If you were looking for local reading, "The Brass Drum" by Gunther Grass (who won Nobel prize in literature) is a good recommendation.
Thanks so much for this comment! As you can see I'd don't really know too much of the history of Gdansk. In the car ride there, we listened to a very long and complicated talk that explained quite a bit about it but I couldn't do it justice with trying to explain it all.
@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders In Prussia was more than 60% Polish citizens and Gdańsk was free city and wasn`t a part of Germany. Germany always was trying took what doesn`t belong to them. Prussia was in Polish Kingdom even 300 years.
Hi , Gdansk was polish city from the beginning, then all Poland was occupied by 3 countries. And other things that Gdansk was free independent city in Polish kingdom, so there was people from all Europe. Regards great video
5:55 Actually it didn't started in Gdańsk, because the first protest, month earlier, was made by the crew of the helicopter and not only factory (PZL) in the town of Świdnik (by bigger city of Lublin), wich was like an inspiration for workers in Gdańsk to start their own protest. May dad is one of the PZL protesters ;)

I have never watched videos of the same people over a certain amount of time like your Africa series and now Switzerland. They have all grown so much wonderful! Except I miss my two boys being small. But you sure have lots of great memories.
We'll have to come back and make more. Please tell me...are you from Poland? I'm trying to figure out why do so many people love our videos about Poland?!?
+Growing Up Without Borders Because we are quite crazy about our Poland. And many Poles checks YT with new videos like yours to answer any negative opinions. It's kind of obsession.
We're actually Canadians but we lived in Florida for a few years so we probably sound American. 😂😂We learn so much when we go to these different cities. History literally comes to life for us.
Lovely video and well put together video with an interesting perspective but correction I would like to add is that the city wasn't being given to Poland but rather it was returned back to Poland since this was the land claimed by the Polish long before the Tectonic Order arrived in the first place, with connection to the first Polish 'Piast' Dynasty of Mieszko I
The most adorable cities in Poland: 1. Toruń - UNESCO World Heritage List. One of the 30 most beautiful places on the planet (according to National Geographic), the second of the 7 Miracles of Poland, the most beautiful city in northern Poland and so on... 2. Gdańsk - the most "Dutch" of Polish cieties 3. Jelenia Góra - the most lovely place on earth (according to one US-president) 4. Poznań 5. Grudziądz - the smallest city with trams 6. Inowrocław 7. Tarnów

There is small misconception in the "history of the city part". Prussians were one of the Baltic tribes, related to modern day Lithuanians and Latvians. They were christianised by the Teutonic Order (mostly german origin knights brought in the area by polish duke) with fire and sword. Gdańsk was part of Royal Prussia, which for the most of a time was region of Poland. When it was't the Prussians created a secret association and gave the power in the region to the polish king. Since then Gdańsk was always within the Crown of Poland. To the city itself. It was one of the richest cities in Europe in late medieval times, the biggest by far in Poland (around 4-times bigger then the capital Kraków). But the citizens of the city weren't speaking polish, many of then were of the german, dutch and many other origin. That's why You can see so many buildings bringing to mind Germany and other European cultures.
The architecture of the city was mainly influenced by the fact that it was part of Hanseatic League (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanseatic_League). You will find this architecture from Amsterdam through Gdansk to Riga and Tallin.
I was born in Gdansk and left in 1984. Thank you for beautiful video. It is wonderful to see when younger generation learns history, it is our hope for the future. God bless you.

That’s nice. We’re not in Switzerland for a while. I hope you get installed nicely.
Have fun.
i grew up in Zaspa too, was equally surprised to see it on the video 😂. I lived in ul. Leszczynskich and went to school n.48
@@adamwnt Tak jak ja, tylko ja mieszkalem na Meissnera
gdanski72 o jejku to bardzo blizko. A w jakich latach? Ja urodziłem się w ‘78 i żyłem na Leszczyńskich do ‘93

Great video, thank you 👍😁♥️
Thanks so much for the warm welcome!
Hi i am aslam from India i want to come Poland i want some work pls help me anybody
Who falsified your German name ? SZMIT looks terrible !
@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders In Prussia was more than 60% Polish citizens and Gdańsk was free city and wasn`t a part of Germany. Germany always was trying took what doesn`t belong to them. Prussia was in Polish Kingdom even 300 years.
Pawel, can you do videos on Polish history?
Hi , Gdansk was polish city from the beginning, then all Poland was occupied by 3 countries. And other things that Gdansk was free independent city in Polish kingdom, so there was people from all Europe.
Regards great video
Thank you for Visiting Poland.
Our pleasure...We loved it there!
@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders Thank you!
A perfect family.
Ah, that’s so sweet. I would say perfect though. 😂😂😂
1989 geezz! not that long ago. Thanks for all the neat facts. I enjoyed them. Also Shantel, Julia has passed you up in height.

Really enjoy your EUROPE tour. Your girls are so beautiful & smart:)))xxxxxxx
Thanks so much! I'll let the girls know. ❤️❤️
Lovely video and well put together video with an interesting perspective but correction I would like to add is that the city wasn't being given to Poland but rather it was returned back to Poland since this was the land claimed by the Polish long before the Tectonic Order arrived in the first place, with connection to the first Polish 'Piast' Dynasty of Mieszko I
The most adorable cities in Poland:
1. Toruń - UNESCO World Heritage List. One of the 30 most beautiful places on the planet (according to National Geographic), the second of the 7 Miracles of Poland, the most beautiful city in northern Poland and so on...
2. Gdańsk - the most "Dutch" of Polish cieties
3. Jelenia Góra - the most lovely place on earth (according to one US-president)
4. Poznań
5. Grudziądz - the smallest city with trams
6. Inowrocław
7. Tarnów

@@AliIsmaeltyphoon The same from me. Mr. Allah is a bad boy and we are very unhappy for Europe Islamisation. If you support islam, please change the destination because you won't be happy here. Amen.
I was in Gdansk in 1979. The difference between then and today is like night and day.
Oh wow! I can imagine it’s changed so much.
Good lesson...
Best mama ever!
The architecture of the city was mainly influenced by the fact that it was part of Hanseatic League (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanseatic_League). You will find this architecture from Amsterdam through Gdansk to Riga and Tallin.
