Room mics have been the single TOUGHEST thing for me to dial in (kick was tough, too). So far, having things low to the ground - either facing it, or covered/ underneath something - has worked out the best... Anything reflective with my room mics is usually DEATH for my sound...
I was starting a comment saying, “I’d go with either…” and then I listed all of them. The Delphos I’s imaging is really impressive, which is maybe either the position or the cardioid pattern…? The kick and snare sounded up the middle, and the toms were more pinpoint directional. I’d find some blend of the Red 12’s and the Delphos. I like the kick in the 4080 but prefer everything else in the Red 12 and the Delphos.
(Also also, another interesting takeaway for me is figuring out that mono room mics sound weird to me unless they’re going to be effects mics, e.g., saturated and compressed to hell and snuck in for color in certain spots of a song.)
Yeah I like Red12 Shotgun Microphones. They sound great in my opinion. 12 Gauge Shotgun Microphones used to make Blue Version that you can put on drums but they discontinued them and replaced by Silver & Gold
I actually tried to finish shooting this before I cut it off but then stayed up too late editing and decided to toss up one more set of mics. 😂 I have two or three other videos in the works that are unfinished so they were going to be multiple videos like this…..🤦♂️
Exploring the possibilities of room mics and this video inspired me a lot. Thanks a lot!
Glad it was helpful! Good luck and thanks for watching!
What a killer room! All the mics seem to work just perfectly
Awesome breakdown, this is a gold mine. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

It wasn’t Intentional but it is kind of funny.

(Also, these 2 newest videos are so great! And maybe it’s just cuz I’m bald, but I dig the haircut.)

Depends on your room and the song.
You took a break, threw up some Red12's, and, oh, buzzed off like 3 feet of hair -- no big deal.
