As someone thats been playing since 2004, i can tell u, Cata was a good expac, not the best, but realy good. leveling was good, heroic dungeons were simply the best dungeons have been at, raids were 10 out of 10, except Dragon Soul. DS was the weakest part of Cata, and if the worst i can tell from Cata was a 6/10 raid at the very end, then you know was a good expac. And while the last raid wasnt as good, the 3 dungeons we got in that patch were simply some, if not THE best 5 Mans ever! Specialy Well of Eternity!
I remember being super hyped when Cata was announced and the login screen was dope. Finally had my own comp to play and I took time off work and school to play it. This was before I had to start adulting… loved the expansion
why would u say that about DS ?
@@Syleion i mean its a objectively bad radi tier? weak lore and conclusion weak boss design and appearance, especially when you compare it to the raids that came before hand in the expansion that still hold the contendership as some of the best game has ever offered.
I loved the hardmode dungeons. I think people forget that a lot Wotlk was tuned to casuals and the hardcore players bitched. So they gave them their own expansion and the casuals bitched. Even though the hardcore dungeons were challenging but it wasn't that bad. People got used to easy mode dungeons in Wotlk besides the last 3 ICC dungeons they put out.
The people I played with doing the hardmode dungeons and cleared it early on had a blast. The rest of my guild (who was an average wotlk raiding guild) struggled bad at it.
Feels good to hear some positive feedback for Cata. I had so much fun back in the day. It finally felt possible to complete my sets on a couple characters without no lifing the game. Plus pvp felt great imo. Can’t wait for heroic Rag
the con of making sets easier to acquire is that it attracts hordes of casuals who ruin the culture of the game and make veteran players leave
If more people have fun i dont have fun so i quit
@@giulianomendez9367 you're missing the point, if casuals become the dominant playerbase in wow then the devs are forced to adhere to the casuals thus pushing away the og playerbase that made the game popular to begin with. Whats even more silly is the fact that the casuals end up quitting whether the devs adhere to them or not lol
Trust me bro, the BIG majority of the player base is excited for Cata, however, since there's a minority who is not excited, they have to be loud as fck to be heared, it's simple logic :)
I agree with pruning a few things from the guild leveling system, like cash flow. I remember playing back in Cata and the "cesspool guilds" were SOO bad. People would just spam invite AS MANY people as possible just to reap all that guild gold those people generated..
Taking away something good from players who are playing correctly playing the game to prevent some bad actors is a silly logic.
Cata Raiding was top tier back in the day, besides Dragon Soul. Reforging was awesome, because a lot of the pieces you got you could itemize them more specifically to cater your build.
people don't realize classic fresh doesn't actually solve anything because the very ones crying for a fresh server are the same ones helping ruin the "economy" that they role play so much
gdkp? agreed
Cata is worth it, since it's a big change and tbf it's my fav expansion because of it. And it was really fun experience + a lot of secret quests that made exploring rewarding. (Darkshore Whirlpool for example)
And you can experience all of that in Dragonflight right now!
@@1dasd22Al well i prefer cata talent tree more, because everything is usefull at some capacity + there was no Pandarens : D
Cata was the only expansion I missed because of my apprenticeship. I can’t wait to have a go
19:10 reforging: no you dont take a penalty, you just cant reforge the all stat, I think it's 40%. For example, you have +200 haste and you prefer crit, you can reforge to get 120 haste and 80 crit. The total remain the same.
Cata isn’t bad. It’s just not classic. Cata is the turning point where it becomes more retail. Leveling becomes an obstacle instead of the journey. Gear is almost obsolete as abilities lvl with you and do dmg with you so you never really upgrade. Your talents are locked into a specific subclass and you get your base kit at lvl 10, just making it very retail feeling.
When I think of classic I think the opposite. I log in at lvl 1 and I’m playing. When you hit milestones, like 10/20/40, you feel the power lift. When you find that first green or first blue you feel the difference. It all matters cause the focus is the leveling and not all about endgame.
shut the f up, i bet you dont even play any version of wow
Ever since TBC it hasn't been classic. Classic is just another way of saying they're remastering a game.
Wotlk leveling is literally an obstacle instead of the journey, so Cata wasn't the start of what you're saying, it was Wotlk. Wotlk introduced Looking for Dungeons, people don't even say hi when they join and you get randomly kicked just because. Cata is absolutely miles better than Wotlk.
I can't wait to start again on cata. I started to play retail in dec 2010. I have good memories with cata. Especially being a wrecking ball in arena with Blood DK. Damn that shit was broken
I think its more of a "go with the crowd" rather than having or making your own opinion when it comes to Cata.
I think it'll be very fun
Lately Guzu has been farming 100 hours as a react andy. No new guzu content?
As a player since 2004, I still go back into Classic and just play a wandering Adventurer. Just roaming the world, hunting quests reading the text and feeling like I am a part of the world. I think Cata was a great addition to the WoW landscape, but after Cata was where I really stopped playing full time and just popped in every couple of months
100%!!!!!!!
True, cata was a love letter to Warcraft 2, Vanilla and TBC, along with some Warcraft 3 considering the characters that take part of the story. And is a better WotLK in every way, except it had 1 fewer raid tiers and no proper equivalent to WotLK's 10 Man Normal raid difficulty.
Also I played on a private Cata server and turned off the quest helper on the map using /console commands, and it pretty much becomes vanilla questing, where you read the quest, look at the map for points of interest or just go the direction the quest tells you. This way you look around, take in the vistas, camps, villages, etc, etc and you remember what you see, instead of tunnel-visioning to a point/circle on the map ignoring everything on the way.
Im excited for Cata. Everyone just remembers Spine of Deathwing being a terrible fight and LFR being added. Rest of the expansion was dope.
fun fact. Focus was intended to be the ORIGINAL resource for Hunters in Vanilla wow, but they couldnt figure out how to implement it, as it was buggy due to being the Pet's resource.
By the time they figured out how to make it work mid wrath, they didnt want to put it in mid xpac, so they waited for Cata.
So it always makes me laugh when people say "Mana on hunter is the original design i hate they changed it" being as it wasn't the original intent to be mana.
Kevin Jordan (original class designer for WoW) answered this exact question on Countdown to Classic Podcast #99. They wanted to do focus, hunters even had it in alpha or beta at some point, couldn’t figure it out, so they gave them mana because it was already a very well developed system, integrated with game mechanics and stats, that was easy to understand. Made it easier to itemise the high level mail items as well, since all mail users used mana.
Good point. Mana on hunters was always out of place and clunky anyway. Never made sense that a non-caster class used mana.
The good thing about focus is it’s a bit easier to manage and regen via talents that make your pet feed you focus periodically and not reliant on mana potions.
visual progression as in 25 warriors in the raid looking the same for 3 phases
I’m pretty stoked for Cara, my only problem with it was the drought so sped up it should be fun
Firelands is probably my all time favorite raid. Loved the whole expansion, Dragon Soul was cherry on top.
DS was good, but the Spine of deathwing was 100% aids

Looks like he play on whitemane ( Private server ) by the looks in the video.
For me Cata was almost the end of wow, After that it got worse with every addon.
And now retail feels, looks Like something new
the amount of COPE in this video is UNREAL brothers ☝
We will see dude
Lol when was the last time you played? 12 years ago? Yea your opinion is worthless
30:45 He gets hyped i see all the things i dont want to do again.
Then you shouldn’t play it.
You do know that people enjoy different stuff right?
@@wtfpwndomg no you dont understand. classic andy's have to have a fit about people liking something they dont like.
@@Noriaela It’s just so strange. These are middle aged men…
Atlas loot shows much more than just Dungeon loot. I use it mostly for looking up crafting materials etc
Prot warrior tank was super fun at the beginning of Cataclysm, got hit like a truck though. DK tanks had better survivability if i remember right at the time.
Classic will never end. All people do nowdays is raiding. Raiding got progessivly better for each expansion untill it became more or less impossible for the average player at it is in retail now. People will even love WoD, because of the raid content
I did read the quests.
That's how I learned English \m/
CATA IS...
everyone gasps
...GOOD!
everybody cheers
Dog shit.
cata will have the same drop off in players that it did the first time
I also stopped playing Wow when Cata launched and returned to WoW at Dragonflight. So for me, I'm excited for Cata because it will be new. I love the Tmog system because classic gear prebis/bis have you looking like a clown 😅. It was interesting when I did play DF I had to relearn the game. I remember wondering why I couldn't make bandages and asking in General chat and people were like why would you need bandages 😅. I did try every expansion each time I leveled an alt but only got to experience a very small part of the content due to how fast you leveled.
Lastly for someone who was on such a long break from the game and doesn't have the time to play all day like I used to, I've been enjoying the content immensely from a solo player perspective.
heroic dungeons will do the same thing to the population that Ulduar did.
Cata is my fav extension with vanilla and tbc
I remember cata and alt leveling and leveling new toons 5 days is about right if you are not playing a tank spec class for instant dungeon que with full looms
We need that mop and then stop 😂
i just want 10 man raiding back
also on the note of the leveling and the overall world the only thing i really disliked was the way they changed the barrens tbh nothing else bothered me
feel like they should just remove heirlooms if they impact it *that* much
gdkp + wow token = pass
You can favorite AtlasLoot items and when they drop, it shows you've favorite the item. I always forget my bis so it's great for me.
We will NEVER get the same feeling of WoW back. We were kids. We had time to do it. Time to group up and waste the weekend. Now we cannot. Most of us anyway. I dont know where WoW can go now but I want it to go!
Transmog doesn't fit in vanilla because there is almost no loot that looks good until you start hitting raids. Tier gear is where the looks start to matter, but almost everything before that is multi random colored bs.
what the accual fck...I see someone in chat at 19:12 saying "Guzu did you take ur vitamins today" 3sec later i litteraly get an add selling vitamins
Very excited for Cata classic. But honestly the classic feeling was gone after TBC. Wrath classic was already a big departure. So I'm playing SoD for the exploration and Cata for the dungeon/raid game
Classic feeling was dead with tbc.
my question is where are they stopping or are they even stopping and if they're not stopping will they do something different instead of just following the same lore
I farmed the Sword with archeology \m/
LFR was added in dragonsoul, which most forget, so its inavoidable just because of an authentic cata experience LFR will be added in Cata Classic.
Thats not to say that cata was terrible, but to be honest cata was the start of what is call commercialisation of wow, and when activision took complete hold over blizzard which shows in some of its design philosophies and honestly its end game is a bit too similar to retails.
I think tbh, Cata will not be as popular as classic, TBC or Wrath just because it lacks the same mojo they had.
cant wait for pvp in cata, call me what ever you want, SOD and Cata all day baby.
SOD pvp is terrible unless youre a shaman or priest
@bojangles3677 u must just suck man lol but you can have your opinion
Joined an Ashenvale group last night (still need exalted with WSG) and i swear 1/2 the raid group was Shamans. @@bojangles3677
In my honest opinion, after MOP is when wow just becomes fundamentally different. Like rep grinds/dailies/raids/quests are still easy to follow and do. WOD introduced so many annoying mechanics and the garrison system that made the game overly grindy and complex for no reason. Every expansion after that made it worse and worse. There is just way too much bloat in retail now that its hard to keep up with anything, I especially felt this during BFA.
"visual progression" doesn't even mean anything in classic anymore because everyone blasts through content with ease anymore. Seeing someone with thunderfury or HoR isn't something to oggle over anymore.
Mop best xpac hands down
23:30 the dungoen journal probably only exists because of atlasloot so yeah however... whats the diagetics of the journal? every adventurer gets one at lvl1? with tactics for how endgames dragons act and should be killed?? not much of an adventure is it?
I've never played cata, at least not truely (I played wow since end of wrath but I never got past level 20 or somn I was a kid). And I only started really getting into wow with classic, because once I got out of the phase of loving the starting zones and wanting to get into other content I pretty much spammed leveling. I had maybe 50 chrs at one time and none of them were max level. Cata was usually where I stopped, not because it was bad but because I would get done with all the Cata zones and I would want to do them again. With cata dropping (this summer?) and my time being really consumed with studies, work and menial tasks cata is gonna fuck me so hard Im gonna be no life-ing this shit
Says he's a classic Andy but plays sod with enhance tank shaman..
Cata was a blessing compared to WOTLK.
i enjoy retail but hated cata i just stay in classic
Cataclysm classic is going to be a blast!
Yep screw the haters they don't even list reasons just go "cata sucks boohoo wah wah"
hope to play it even less than last time
Hot take, but I have always thought LFR was fine. If you hate LFR you can literally just ignore it and run the normal raids.
The only thing that’s kind of weird is how OP some of the raid trinkets are in later expansions like MoP and tier sets from LFR.
the problem is that there are too many versions of the same raid and it dilutes the experience of a raid. it's "cheesy"
@@nectarpeach2853 I disagree. I cleared mythic from mop through the end of legion and the existence of LFR didn’t make my guild’s achievement any lesser.
Most of the LFR bosses lacked a good portion of the mechanics that made those raids challenging. There were some exceptions like Thok from SoO that were close in difficulty to normal but overall the raids were not the same mechanically.
The problem back then, like in MoP, was how imbalanced the SoO trinkets were and how even the LFR variants blew away all of the gear from Throne of Thunder.
That being said, I do think normal/flex, heroic and mythic are enough. LFR should stay in the game but I would remove the loot entirely and reward some sort of gear currency for generic intro raiding gear.
@@brandonkruse6412 yea we definitely don't align on this all good. I personally just cannot stand that the same raid is divy'd up multiple times with a tuning dial, it's antithetical to what i consider a good mmo dungeon/raid system. oppose it to the very core as we all won't be able to have the same experience. if the game needs an easier raid, make a separate raid that's easier, no need to water something down ruining the dungeon creator's hard work
how hard is doing Tanks things in cata ?
19:50 do you know what transmog does imo? it makes every equipment slot purely stat based. my badass weapon I found in the dungeon? no I have the TBC raiding sword I want it to always look like... so every weapon becomes a stat stick... every helmet becomes a stat stick - it don't matter what name it has, could literally be called helm#469ilvl800 for all i care...
imo what is the better customization is tinting/recoloring. so the model is always the same but you can match like the colors of the cloth/leather/mail/plate pieces so you don't look like a rainbow, unless that's what you're going for.
the only reason i skip quest text is because i played all this ish growing up, i've seem the quest text i spent the majority of my childhood playing this game, and I usually remember exactly how to do quests because i've done them so many times on so many different characters
Wasn't there a lock in vanilla that ninjad a nax weapon for demon transmog? He must be thrilled
Corrupted Ashbringer, and Staysafe, a streamer I often watch, who isn't bad, but professes to be a warlock yet had no idea on the glyph. I can't wait to see a Felguard with it :)
Yeah they ninja'd corrupted ashbringer.
@@Noriaela they can use it therefor it's not a ninja.
Thats a glyph in legion not transmog in cata😅
@@LukiferXXthey cant and the felguard transmog is on legion
it is a good expac, yeah DS was the weakest part of it but only deathwing fight, even on DS all the other bosses are fun to do
Siege does rule
cataclysm was was sooooo good really. my favourite version of wow
For me classic end after mop
CATA IS...
*everyone gasps*
...BAD!
*everybody cheers*
Let me guess, pressing more than 2 buttons and paying attention to mechanics was too hard for you 😂
i'll give Cata a Shot for sure... since SOD got pretty boring real quick.. especialy all those gatekeeping BS... And i know i should make my own grp - but NO i am a casual player with a Family i just wanna jump in and do some stuff instead of sweating with min/max a EZ contentent game.
Cata was pretty good; the death of WoW was MoP as it completely killed the vibe of the game with the setting. I remember swifty making a video about it and I thought it was a joke video, no way would blizzard make an expansion about... pandas. I was wrong and the game sucked from there on out.
If you PvP it's the 2nd best expac
oh ... I don't really like wrath - it's more like I put up with most of it for the things that I like and the investment i have in my character.
I do like heroic+ (I don't really like how mindless it is to get into groups tho).
basically I like that you can earn tokens as SOME form of progression that is not based on rng drops and that you can run dungeons in 5-man groups for "endgame" level rewards and not haveto schedule for weeks to adhere to a raiding schedule.
the fact that my paladin is going to be heavily adjusted into something more like a rogue(for ret) is too much for me to stick around.
why it matters so much to me is - I don't mind going healer or tank in groups but solo/world content any of those specs helps nothing. I define my character - not purely based on what they do in group content but more what they do in solo content - them changing ret to such a degree feels bad - to me the SoD ret pala is more like what I imagined ret to evolve into
TBC F R E S H when?
Everybody hated Cata back then because it completely broke and revamped the old world everybody loved and got acustomed to. Sure the zones got aestethically better but they never retained those legendary traits that made them great. Examples are Barrens or Thousand needles. Ive played since 2005 religiously and i stopped 1 month into this expansion, every one of my friends quit too and it just wasnt the same socializing game anymore, felt more and more like a single player.
Lmfao I've been playing since vanilla and the world revamp is one of the greatest parts of the expansion. Old world questing is literally the WORST part of the game. If You like leveling slow and hoping from zone to zone wasting your life, that's fine. I value my time and don't like spending countless hours running back and forth. Id rather play for fun, not treating the game like it's my entire life.
MoP was probably one of the worst expansions
it started the whole "you need a specific weapon to use this attack" and tier based talent system
Those were some of the smaller problems.
That said MoP had many awesome things too, but for every one awesome thing, there were 2-3 horrible ones.
Do we get the Version of cata where blood dk also get ap when attacked in a bg ?
Not sure, but I think thats MoP.
@@Nzeth nah i did not play dk in MoP
It was a passiv 4 blood dks and got later disabled in pvp.
For me, Cata is disliked for mostly the same reason Retail is - it's solely endgame focused, particularly raiding, when an MMORPG should be as Classic was - world, character, immersion ''journey'' focused, a living world. Cata was an early version of modern Retail, but not the turning point. The turning point was arguably already Wrath when the game was trying to be ''sweaty'', progression, competition based, like an e-sport, by design. Endgame, be it raiding or otherwise, despite appealing to some, is pointless, repetitive and boring from a purely MMORPG perspective. For players like myself ''the game'' is from level 1 to max...not max level, which is why Cata, and Retail, has nothing to offer.
Idk why so many people have a hardon for vanilla. Its slow its boring 40man raids suck. Ive never played cata i took my break at the end of wrath due to college and playing cata beta made me more hype than ever. Im hyped for changes that will make cata better. Also the possibility of a new raid.
Cata is a lot of good sounding things on paper, but the pruning and overhauls made much of the day to day experience very reductive. It was Blizzard's first step toward trying to make the game more approachable to a wider non-gamer demographic only to begin the era of alienating actual gamers.
No wrath was that start. Cata is just an improvement on wrath imo. I get if you prefer classic/tbc but to prefer wrath to cata seems odd to me tbh (other than for nostalgia)
Made the game more approachable for newer people while also starting the trend of making the game constantly harder when you reach high end stuff which is a nice balance.
Just look at dragonflight nowadays, its very approachable for those that have never played the game while the mythic raids are arguably harder than what they've ever been or have been in a long time
@@joshyman221Well, I disagree on the 'improvement', but yes technically the changes started in Wrath. However, Cata was when the changes and overhauls committing to that direction could happen.
Character systems were trimmed, restricted, dumbed down, and homogenized while adding a bunch of power creep. Meanwhile on the content side it became a fully trivialized world with a reductive formula of leveling quest hubs, pre-raid dungeons, group finder, raid finder, and welfare epics.
When the base game and open world is easier, dumber, and less meaningful people get bored and stop playing. That's Cata.
@@arcc4 I swear every time I see people complain about raid finder it makes me realise none of you actually played it or remember it. LFR was added on the last patch just like LFD was. Char systems were trimmed because of how much garbage there was in those systems. Are we really gonna pretend that the leveling in WoW hasn't always been reduced to a reductive formula? Epics stopped being epic in TBC.
The whole appeal of WoW back in the day was that it was easy compared to everything else. Stop looking at these expansions with rose tinted goggles and look at them for what they are.
Nothing was pruned in Cataclsym. That wasn’t until Warlords and Legion.
Most of the general class abilities like Hunter traps weren’t spec-exclusive in Cataclysm or Mists.
On the topic of transmogs I think there is a massive benefit to having transmogs (Aka giving people a reason to do old content). However, I also think it does diminish the feeling when you're that new player looking at a massively cool T3 geared OrcWarrior sitting atop his war wolf onm top of the Orgrimmar bank and thinking: Holy shit! I want to improve and eventually beat the content that guy did to be able to be cool as well!
I think a good compromise would be Transmog works everywhere *but* in major cities/capitals where they're temporarily disabled.
Blizzard could just change it so that we can hybrid spec into the talent trees we want. I mean they announced it with changes so lets hope for the best
15:25 - NOOOO Vehicles are bad! they make you not interface with the world as YOUR character but as generic car.... I can tolerate some daily quests where you act as a turret but it's not fun. it doesn't have me express my character in the gameplay... it's really bad when they have like 20% of each zones leveling quests be vehicle based...
It’s great love the new style old questing and the quality of life improvements people stop crying
😂imagine playing an expansion for like 5days and thinking you've played it enough to say you hate it or like it that's enough time to get to level50 or 60 you gotta be level77 to start obtaining cataclysm gear and level80 to start cataclysm content
I love classic, i loved WotLK, i despise CATA.
This was the point where i said i'll stop playing WoW.
Played retail a few years ago in Shadowlands and that was the point of no return it actually made me angry with the direction and decisions they made to that point lmao.
Please please explain what you hate about cata that isn’t in wrath. I’m trying to understand why people have this perception. Only thing could be raid finder but that won’t be in classic cata. What else? To me cata seems like a direct upgrade to wrath
@@joshyman221 The entire overhaul of the WoW world, to name one small thing. Classic ends with Wrath, that's just how a lot of people see it. Not saying that makes Cata inherently bad.. it's just not for some.
@@RealKT99but bro in wrath you are never in the old world. Hell in tbc you’re not in the old world. And what specifically about the old world made it special? I get in vanilla the focus on the world made it completely different and no expansion captured that since. Hell I’d say cata captures it more than wrath. The fact that the whole world revolves around death wing is kinda cool. But I digress…I’m trying to figure out why people prefer wrath to cata and nothing so far makes sense.
@@joshyman221 It is useless to explain anything to him. Just be glad that we won’t meet such people during the cataclysm.
Lmfao imagine playing shadowlands and saying cata sucks because you played shadowlands 🤣🤣🤣
Wtf logic is that?!?!
I think "Classic" in its actual form ends with WoD. If that expansion releases as it was, i think its the breaking point to stop or to change things in a bigger way. Cata was not bad, it just wasnt as good as Lich King. And lets be honest Lich King classic was ass.
Worst thing for me are GDKP Raids which much likely causes the botting and gold buyer situation.
If GDKP goes on in Cata, its gonna die after Firelands.
Btw Firelands are the greatest raid ever made, change my mind.
I see Cata starting off strong, but falling off HARD, especially with world soul and SoD p4 and 5
i just hope they ban gdkps . it ruined the exp for me in wrath classic
he keeps saying prot his prot warrior is soo squishy, but hes not even taking 10k+ dmg per hit, AND he has 150k hp comared to wrath where you will take 20k ish dmg per hit in full bis and with only 50k hp
also when he was raiding, he wasnt taking too much dmg aswell, the healers wernt that good, my healers 10x better
i will do a hunter from zero only questing
I recommend you turn off the quest helper, Quest point of interests and such. I did that with the /console commands in a private Cata server, leveling is much better. You read the quest, you look at the map, you explore, and you have to look at your environment, take in the vistas, villages, camps, etc and remember them, follow directions and so on.
This is so much better than just tunnel visioning to the point/circle on the map ignoring everything along the way.
I hope blizz will ban gdkp also in cata
Heirlooms were a mistake. They invalidate all of the crafted gear.
i just want them to stop at MoP
it'll be the most tone deaf thing if they ever do a WoD classic. The only way that can ever be acceptable is if they decide to make a WoD+ where they go back and add in ALL of the cut content that butched that expansion's potential
@@atelierbagur3831I can see them go all the way to Legion. Wod got great raids and pvp, just not enough content for a long period of time.
@@atelierbagur3831 People write the same thing about absolutely every addon. You can't change anything, so accept it.
Weak people think that with the renewal of the world comes the end of Warcraft. But we know how it will actually be and with the update of the world, Warcraft will only gain its greatness. All that was before the cataclysm was a children's sandbox.
One day when WoW comes to gamepass, i will be back in Azeroth again to only farm Transmogs :D
