I have the same ‘challenges’ - decision fatigue. This is what I do. I have one camera that I use for video, sony A7iv with the Sony 20-70F4 with Freewell magnetic variable ND on the front. Wide enough to vlog and has the benefit of super 35 to get you a bit more reach. F4 bright enough for daytime and interior conditions. I would have a fast prime in the bag for low light shots (35mm F1.4GM). Video camera is always at the right settings to film video. Then I have a separate camera, Sony A7iii or Canon R8, to shoot stills. Lenses would depend upon what I am photographing and consideration that those lenses could also be used on the video camera. Finally on the quick release plates, I use Peak Design and Falcam F38 plates and both of the capture clips. I still much prefer the Peak Design, the mechanisms are just better - I only explored the F38 system as I can quick release straight onto my gimbal using that system. If I am really tight for space then I would switch the video camera for my Pocket 3, although I like variation of focal lengths in a video….I hope that this helps in some way :-)
Less is more when traveling. I am now down to 2 A7Cii's - one with 24-50/f2.8 and the other 70-200/f4. If it's mostly urban, I'll grab the Q2 and Pocket 3. It all depends on what you plan on shooting and how much time you have to fumble around with your stuff getting it set up. My family is incredibly impatient, so I travel light.
Your timing is impeccable - first video I watched on the plane from San Diego to Florida. I feel your struggle! Florida is primarily for family issues, but I hope to get away for a few days for some swamp landscape and wildlife. I typically pack the 16-35 GM, 20-70 G, either the 70-200 G II or the 100-400 GM, and a 1.4 TC. I always struggle between the A1 vs A7RV, and 70-200 vs 100-400. I may consider purchasing a 2x TC for the 70-200, but I don’t have a good feel for the impact in IQ. I also considered the Tamron 28-200 instead of the 20-70, or the 14 GM instead of the 16-35. In the end, I just love the versatility and sharpness of 20-70 and 16-35. I’m 6’-5” so travel tripods typically don’t work for me. The Manfrotto 190, 4 section, fits well in a small suitcase with the head detached, and having the height, for me, is worth the effort of detaching and attaching the head. I look forward to your tripod review. Please include the maximum height with those reviews.
If it's for a job, I drag nearly every piece of kit I may need and it sucks but I'm prepared. If it's a weekend trip with my wife I just straight up give up some things. Like gimbals or drones. Focus more on pictures only or focus more on video only or maybe just take one lens and f*ck it😅 Make peace with the fact that not everything has to be used every time. If that makes sense 🤷
Hello ! i like to take with me one camera when I m traveling plus my phone,. two prime lenses , rainproof sling bag , filters batteries ( just a hobby, not for work ) and I enjoy it with no stress, I leave the rest home, easy to travel ,save me time-energy specialy in long travels, and I feel I can do more, thank you for share this ! 👍
I’m no content creator - I’m a husband & father so I don’t get all the free time on trips as others might, so I have to be nimble so my camera gear travel rule is if I bring 2 cameras, each camera can only have the one lens with it (and adapters to swap between them if applicable). If I bring one camera I can bring 2 lenses. I usually don’t bring extras like monitors & shotgun mics. I offset the “what if I need that” feeling with my iPhone 15 pro (PolarPro case, tiny ssd and vnd/cpl).
@@chrisbrockhurst I can fit a lot in that Peli: 2 R5Cs, 4 v mount batteries, DJI lav mics, small rail kits for both cams/vmounts, 1 EVF, various cables, shotgun mic, extra cards & reader, top handles etc.
lol this video captures the pre trip anxiety perfectly.
What id give to just be able to load my truck up
My camera bag is my carry-on, and my roller case is my clothes and toothbrush and stuff.
Pumped to see this!
I felt this struggle in my soul. And the transition lenses actually look good on you

The anxiety of the video reminds me of my own anxiety working with clients. This is a real problem when working with professional work.
Great job on the video Chris! Thanks for making it.
Thanks for watching

Yeh when it’s not for work I’ve got pretty good at just bringing one camera these days, but when it’s for work it’s a constant struggle
I use the tried and true "Can't chack my bags... Lithium batteries aren't allowed to be checked" and i have never had an issue ;)
Having a check-list on your Notes App really helps with Pre-trip anxiety!
Being poor kinda helps
Haha I have been doing exactly this yesterday evening 😂
haha the struggle is real!
You know it
I have the same problem everytime I travel. Then I get there and I use one camera and one lens for 99% of the time. It is aweful!

Can you please link the stuff you talk about in the video in the top of the description? (Not the evergreen stuff you always use)
This is exactly me right now figuring out what to bring/not bring 😅
Godspeed to you
GAS
What mic was used in this video?
Just got back from two trips and have the same struggle every. Single. Time.
Yep. Never gets easier
New Sony event next week?👀
Hope I'll get this anxiety soon. Coz everything I got is a6000 and a few accessories. 🤣🤣

The travel rule for work is if it can’t fit in my Pelican 1510, it ain’t going (besides small stands for check luggage)
I’d love to be able to do this myself
