    One thing this show really portrays is how much timing has to do with a hunt... Getting in late on the 1st hunt put me in the wrong spot. I could see my error in the tree looking at the map on my phone, and then when the deer came in just as expected it locked in that shoulda-woulda-coulda- factor... Then, the next hunt, even though plenty early, the buck came in while climbing the tree and spooked... And of coarse the hunt for the big ten point that would of been dead if I were literally a couple minutes earlier... Timing and a little luck are bigger factors in success than most like to admit.

      Out of all the knowledge you drop throughout the entire video and then say and do such a rookie move by letting farm equipment ruin your hunt. I would think you would’ve known that Dan. Anyways great vid and terrible luck with not getting in that tree sooner. If you wlda weighed what you do know you wlda made it there in time lol 😉

    Imagine how mucj time he spends scouting and learning the terrain to have all these spots he knows where mature bucks are!!
    Man I gotta start applying more of this to my hunts from the ground

    I LOVE watching videos like this because it shows all that goes on behind the scenes in bow hunting deer. GREAT if you have a patch of woods to hunt that holds a lot of deer and you have permission to kick off all OTHER bow hunters (which is very difficult to come by unless you are connected to the property owner who has CHOICE deer hunting property -- or own it yourself).
    Then you have dogs running the deer; chasing them off to the next STATE! That's another huge "challenge".
    Then you have the "time element". Working people have little time to scout and hunt DURING the rut. Where deer might have been in October does NOT mean they will be there in the rut usually because of "pressure" -- starting the last week of October and going through the first week of November for most northern states.
    Hats off to dedicated bow hunters. Any meat you bag you have EARNED!
    And thanks, Dan, and your partner for filming the "behind the scenes" that most bow hunting videos don't show. There is MUCH, MUCH more than seeing a video with a buck coming in -- taking the right shot -- then finding him dade. (That's a correct misspell for Mississippi talk).
    Hope you make MORE videos!

    The Sugar Ridge public hunting area in Southern Indiana is a good area for big bucks, I like area 5 in Warrick County. This area is reclaimed coal land, very hard to hunt, with limited visibility in the spoil banks, planted in pines. There are some open areas with hardwoods. I have taken a Pope& Young ten point, and a 13 point with a shotgun in this area, and seen other good bucks here as well. A 160 class buck was taken with a bow in this area also.

Had to use the trail to get around to the buck he smelled me for sure so I got to my spot thinking surely he was gone hung my second stick look over and he's broad side at 15 yards looking into my soul and he turns and walks back to where he was and didn't run. Ive been hunting this buck for going on 2 years now and I’ve had one in counter with him and only a hand full of pictures of him but I know he’s there!! I’ve only ever harvested a doe with my bow and that was only recently. Like a week ago or so. I really don’t have anyone close to me to learn from so I tend to watch lots of informational videos on here but you have to watch who your “learning” from and a know? No party hunting here and there are about 400,000 less hunters here Dan than in WI. that matters. We had 2 bucks for decades and still had real good age class with bigger bodies and antlers for the most part as what I saw for years in WI or MI when hunting there. When the one buck rule came in only about 28% of all hunters supported it now its about 50 / 50 if you look at polls rather than QDMA propaganda .Also so you know the first 10to 12 days of Nov and last couple days of Oct are traditionally the very best rut action here in our state of IN. Before and after that its very slow to say it mildly .Also the tree slightly uphill behind you looked to be better and give you shots both sides of the ridge just saying .nice video .Good choice leaving the big woods /hils to concentrate on th eland next to ag as well here ag not swamps or hardwoods are king .

    Dan I have hunted public all my life. You should only scout a property after season.not during season. After you get set up wind is right rut is starting here comes someone walking through the woods and says I'm scouting. It will mess things up for folks that done it right. Moving all over a area blows it out.and hunters that hunt that property don't thank much of it.people access public areas from ways unknown. Car count means nothing..

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 года назад +3

      Its important to realize you are not the only hunter out there. Its public land, and not everyone hunts your way. We have small game guys squirrel hunting, chasing bunnies, turkeys, etc. Hikers, bird watchers, and yes, even other deer hunters use the property in differing ways... Thats what makes the challenge. If your looking to buy a der, get a lease or go to a fenced ranch... I do not wander thru bedding areas or messing up hunts for others, but no one can kill anything if they want look at an area and see if there are deer there before they choose to hunt. When you get into your prescouted spot and there aint no sign or there is a stand hanging there, you will move too... And simply, I use the methods that work best for putting bone on the wall in the areas I hunt. If something works better for you, do it, I would never try to stop you from enjoying our public land i n what ever way you choose...

    Question...when you see those fingers/points coming off the leeward side of ridges like on your map. Do you usually assume that's good bedding as long as the cover is there too??

    I live and hunt in Mississippi. I'm proud to say we get 3 bucks per year and 5 doe.
    I myself hunt government/public land and kill big deer every year. I hunt north west and northeast corners of the state you should try it out down here you'd love it and out of state lic Is very affordable.

      I quit all soda... I quit all junk food... I have one meal a day where I eat what I want. For breakfast I have an apple or orange, or a handful of grapes, and when I get hungry I drink a bottle of water to fill me up.

    Dan had you given much thought to hunting lower that first hunt and trying to catch the thermals dropping at last light since you were already getting in late ?

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 года назад +1

      That 1st hunt, when I set up I was bought & sold they were coming from a way that would not be effected by my dropping thermal, however, after studying the map closer, and not in a rush while in the tree, a sinking feeling came that they would come from below and pass by thru the valley, and felt it was to late to move. I was slightly over the crest from that hill though and thought there was a good chance the thermal drop would pull the other way... Obviously not based on the outcome of that hunt. Goes to show that when your rushed you make mistakes.
