  • How to identify pinch points or funnels. This isn't a totally exhaustive list. Things as minor as deadfall in the woods can help steer deer movement, but these are some of the major features I'm looking for in terms of funneling deer movement on a map.

    Outstanding. There are so many how to videos out there that are amateurish with more “uh’s” and “um’s” than Bayer made Aspirin last year. Just saw one titled “How to find funnels” I hunt Nebraska and he started talking about a Google earth map showing clear cuts. We harvest corn beans etc., no forest products. All your videos are first rate. Best to you and your wife. Any little DIY babies in your plans?

    I used to feel that funnels & pinchpoints were 1 of the same but they have subtle differences. I shot a buck with my bow 1st week of November last year that most people would call a funnel. However because of terrain & direction of travel the funnel would be north to south. However the pinchpoint is east to west due to water & a steep hill. The 🦌 could easily cross 50 yards broadside to me but the terrain directs him to me. Behind me is no hunting so I know anything coming from that direction is not orange. All the public spots I'm in r of this variety. Saddles & subversion r 2 other things I like to key in on. Saddles r nice cuz the deer 1 day will come from 1 direction or vice versa but always on the same line. All that is left is the killing 🌳. Subversion when all things come together to form a perfect ambush spot. There always seems to be a lone cedar rubbed raw in these spots. I like to find a nice red oak since this may take a few sits to get results since there isn't a funnel or pinchpoint. However on the right day the deer is dead to rights when conditions all point up 4 u.

    Great job, make sure to report the tree stands to the DNR assuming this is recent finding of stand outside of the season still there. Just send them a pic with GPS on and they will take care of it :)

    • @josephtreadlightly5686
      @josephtreadlightly5686 4 года назад

      Yeah, they can go in there & muck up the area & then decide they need to hire a crew. That crew will be there the few best days a bowhunter could wish for loud sprayers that spray purple herbicide to control evasive species. Happened to me last year on public land. Luckily I had somewhere within a half mile away to go to. The next day they trashed that area & the following two days they were over a mile away on new ground & terrain. I was didn't go where I wanted to go then since I could just stay home & listen to the same noise with my neighbors leafblower. Not the season I started planning for in April of 2019.

    • @josephtreadlightly5686
      @josephtreadlightly5686 4 года назад

      Ha haha, 1 of the same. The gun season opens anywhere from November 3rd to the 9th in this state. So what do they do but hire a crew of guys to walk around everywhere on a 1000 acres of land during the best week of bowhunting all year. A couple of months later people r trying to setup vacation time for the year. Go to their website & there is everything from gun season to underwater basket weaving season but no mention of the bow opener. By far the best & worst state to be a bowhunter.

    • @RoadLifePursuits
      @RoadLifePursuits 4 года назад

      @@josephtreadlightly5686 You're still not getting it. These stands are there RIGHT NOW, which is illegal. Just take a pic with GPS on and problem solved. Has zero to do with hunting seasons. I personally would take them down myself, but the DNR told me not too. I'm not sure what type of land this is other than it's public, if it's an WMA...etc..etc....stand needs to leave daily, pretty easy to understand, if it's there, it's illegal. If it's forest it can be there for like 14 days or something, but then again, it can't be there right now...again, illegal...pretty straight forward I think.

    Anyway you could do a video on something like this in a state like Maine or new hampshire. These two states are so different compared to other states that are even close like mass New York PA. Even those states are close they are not like Maine nh. So anyway you could maybe do a shorter video on terrain like those states.

I tried it a few times and on a whole scouting walk, it basically resulted in a 7 sided polygon... stopped bothering with it after that... though could be my phone.. Hey cory, maybe you walked in that shape over the course of your scout? Also if your cell service is limited in the area that your scouting, you will need to pre download the area you will be in with the offline feature.
