Watched this video when it first came out because I knew I wanted a Harley. 4 years on and I’ve finally bought an old Dyna cheers for the videos my dude!
on my 1996 Sportster I took off the chrome heat shields then wrapped the headers, reinstalled the shields so you do not see the wrap, and get the benefits of the exhaust scavenging for better performance that is was designed for. Contact with the headers is what will give the performance. Not on the Heat covers, If I am wrong, please advise
Thanks. That’s exactly what I want to do on my 48 with short shots. How did it work out? Was there any clearance problems ie; did the wrap make the pipe too thick to fit the covers back on? And, are the covers less hot?
Great vid! Only criticism is you should have removed heat shields prior to wrapping. The wrap leaves residue and burn patterns that can’t be removed, so removing the heat shields first would allow you the option of always unwrapping and returning to your stock appearance. It would make the pipe look a bit more streamlined and less bulbous as well. However, this is only my opinion and each bike is only as beautiful as the owner views it, so yeah… great vid, and keep riding brother
Awesome video and nice bike bro. I figured some guys would talk trash on a sportster. But the fact is, they look so much better than bigger bikes. Not to mention, half the weight...easier to maneuver. I have a custom 1200 xl. Which run quite a bit bigger...on the sportster end.
so I wrapped my shots last year. wraps turned white, they always had that burning fiberglass smell and my boot rubbed a hole in the wrap. I heard the wraps make the pipe run hotter which cause them to eventually become brittle. what have u experienced? are they still wrapped? I'm thinking of trying it again, and wrap the shields also for a fatter look. im thinking it keep the pipes..uhm..less hot and keeps the integrity of the pipe metal? what r ur thoughts? post video..oh hell yes. I'm rewrapping with the shields! looks incredible!
+RogueMoto hey man! So it's been quite a while since I wrapped mine. Probably about 2000 miles or so and I'm just now starting to get some white fade up towards the front of the pipe. But I did notice that up near the motor underneath the pipe (where it was touching bare pipe and not the heat shield) turned white MUCH faster. Also a tip, don't run it when they're wet. Like after washing it etc. Heard that makes them fade a lot faster.
So I just bought my 2 rolls of double thick wrap to see if they would last longer.. I'm going to wrap over the shields.. and that my man was a great idea to keep the color! Thanx
Bike N' Bird wrap complete...I installed double thick wrap over the shields and it looks fucking great! black 1500f silicone sprayed and they look even better. was a pita cause I wrapped them up the the flanges and the thickness of the wrap made it very difficult to replace the hexnuts. this is my second wrap..hopefully I have learned to keep my damn boot heal from rubbing another hole in this one! thanks for the ideas bro.
haha ok I will keep that in mind! One last question. Are there gaskets at the head connections that need to be replaced (or just put back if undamaged) when I remove the pipes to wrap and replace them? It's very possible I missed you talking about that?
We have to be careful at one thing... installation procedures always talks about "moist" the exhaust wrap... never saturate with water, so do not "soak". So, basically, you have to moist the exhaust wrap but never put it completely in a water bucket.
@@ericerice761 iv always found it funny how harley guys make fun of smaller engine harleys then get butthurt when sport bike riders make fun of them for having half the horse power and double the weight
Don’t not dunk wrap in water!!! There’s chemicals in the wrap that need to stay on the wrap, if you dunk you’ll loose those chemicals. Run the wrap under small Stream of water until rap is pliable. Don’t dunk!!!!

It works wonders!

Why anyone would wrap the heat shields is beyond me. You did it correctly.

Love the video the way you video the whole thing . Thanks
How have they held up? I also want to wrap on top of my heat shields

RogueMoto how'd it hold up
Do you not spray it down with a high temp silicone spray?
How are these holding up color wise?
Wow it made it so easy watching this video bro.. thanks cheers from Madison Wisconsin
That wrap looks badass!
Thanks man! It actually makes a huge heat difference!
I take it the chrome on the heat shields will be permanently damaged after a while?
This was very helpful!!
Look awesome! Did you have a lot extra from just 1 roll of wrap?
The intro song is legit.
I know this is old, but Ms. Bird should do all your intros.
you can use steel tie wire to hold it as you go so it doesn't lose tightness
Great vid and sick bike! Was thinking it was going to be a PITA, but you made it look easy!
Thank you and be safe out there!
+06 Street Bob haha trust me, it IS a pita! Just have patience and follow these directions and it will all be worth it in the end

+06 Street Bob It's recommended that you do replace them
Will do thank you
How did the wraps hold up ?
Looks good!
Does wrapping the exhaust pipes mess up the headers to the motorcycle or any damage to the engine ?
That was awesome thanks for the DIY!
Those purple clippers are dope
Did you just wrap around the O2 sensors?
replace your gaskets!
Were you able to do both pipes with only one 50ft role?
Can you take the metal ties off after its dried?
No
Looks sweet
Dang. This is a good video man. 👍🏼
Thanks bud! I'll be texting you back today. Didn't have service for a few days.
All good homie! Safe travels!

Does she know you are wrapping her bikes pipes?
i though it was a 48 lol
nope I wish!
Bike N' Bird still looks nice though
You ruined a perfectly good set of chrome Vance & Hines pipes for what?
Because it's my bike and I can do whatever the fuck I want to it
@@BikeNBird omfg😂😂😂 well said man😉😉😉😈
Looks great!
Are you suppose to leave the heat shield on or??
Depends on the look you want. You can do it with or without the heat shield
