My husband saw Vikki at Madison Square Garden in NYC when he was in high school around 1971-72. He still talks about it. One of his favorite singers. And she became one of mine. Wonderful voice for the ages.😊
Carr had the technique of a classically trained singer....her ability to shape phrases and support the breath while maximizing the vowels is just amazing. I had never heard of her until I was researching a song to add to my act and found her here on youtube. Better late to the party than never.
Both Elvis and Sinatra declared Vikki Carr the finest female voice they had ever heard. Now you have heard why. She can put emotion into her music just as they did.
A wonderful voice that's always a pleasure to listen to. More than that, Vikki brings much glamour and refinement on to the stage with her that's just so mesmerising.
The pianist wasn't too bad either. Give credits due where they are due. Didn't realize Vicki did so well. I graduated 1956 Rosemead High, she graduated 1958. Did not even know she was just two years below me. Geez, talk about not knowing the music class ensemble back then. Wow. But then my dad forbade me to be in music for whatever his reasons. Broke my heart having to sign out. Had friends who said I had perfect pitch. I wanted to do Jazz music. The music teacher at the time was Jane Skinner. That was some teacher too. She was forced to resign because on one of her music class outings a kid reported that she was smoking a cigarette outside the hotel where they were staying and they canned her. Kid you not. Now I wonder if that was true. Seemd so stupid.
I don’t need new ears, its the English who have poor taste for music, who always go for their own wether they are good or not, so I’ll stick to my ears thankfully.

Great video from back in the days when excellence was appreciated.
Fast forward to 2021 and crap, nothing but crap.

Beautiful voice, hits the note EVERY time with no warbling.....no auto-tune, live........
The pianist is wonderful, too!
OMG! This rendition of Somewhere would be the best that I have ever heard.

Who's the trumpeter? He looks like Cary Grant.
In those years she was singing in the Coconut Grove of the Ambassador Hotel in LA.
Is it the same Vikki Carr, she looks so different here
She was in that part of the country as she grew up in southern CA. She was in Tahoe, Palm Springs, San Francisco as well as LA.
Pocos artistas logran exitos cantando en Inglés y en Español
I thought that was Cary Grant. there with Vicki !

Great voice, not many around like that today, while Shirley Bassey had a strong voice, but for me it was to rough.
3 voices: Vicky Carr, Shirley Bassey and Mireille Mathieu...
Rough ? Get new ears.

Who is the pianist?
Kelly Green. She also played vibes in Ray’s band.

Nobody sings anymore. Today all is just moaning, making noises and screaming. Not to mention vulgarity and disdain for values.
