This is the definition of a tight unit. Well, there are several definitions of the term “tight unit”, but I’m referring to the one that pertains to a musical outfit… 👊🏻
We all know Paul's great in this track... but thumbs up to Linus and Marco as well. This combo is just so totally awesome. Check out their other tracks! MAD!
Does anyone think it's almost obscene that PG and Minnemann (two players who are among the best in the world at what they do) played a whole session together? And recorded it? And that we can watch it FOR FREE? Christ. I need to lie down for a bit...
Love to practice with this...They all pound the groove..then everybody gets their shot at mind-blowing chops at appropriate points...but especially P.G....lyrics, vocals ok...arrangement is terrific...speed ...accuracy...and mostly...just clean fun with rock and roll....sky..
Hard to say who is the best guitarist I think they all have something to give but Paul definitely enjoy what he is doing, that is what it matters for me. Thank you Paul!
paul is THE MAN ... hes my idol i myself am a guitarrist ( im not as half as good as many guitrrists ) and i apire to be like im someday. Its a shame that he is not recognized cause his music is better than any other elses ( thats why i have all his cds Solo,Mr.big, Racer x , and i have two japanese ones that i think are clled guitar gods or warriors something like that ). Resuming hes awesome!!!
It’s funny, some people would make the mistake of calling this cheesy... but if you look over the past decade - all the popular new punk/ alternative/ whatever you want to call it- bands use very similar melodies, structure etc. The major difference here is that the musicians play their instruments VERY VERY well, and dissecting what they’re playing requires you to think.
very true man, as a guitarist i like malmsteen, vai, satriani, and all them but only to a certain extent. Paul Gilbert is one of my favorites because he has such a unique style of playing and hes not afraid to branch out sometimes and throw in lyrics in his work. He's a very good vocalist too and i love his backing on mr. big stuff like "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" and "Take Cover".
Paul Gilbert sings for a Jimmy Hendrix memorial show in Germany while playing guitar. and actualy sounds very like jimmy. his red house cover was one of my faverites. love PG's licks hes so sick. keep rockin!
In fact, it makes so little difference, that if Paul lost his Ibanez endorsement tomorrow, and Ibanez wanted to still make the same guitar but without Paul's name attached to it, they would incorporate it into their RG line. It's got the same body style, neck, headstock design, etc... The only reason it's not in the RG line is because it's part of their signature series line because it has an artist's name attached to it.
This song is so great. Its so upbeat. It sounds like something the Foo Fighters would have put on one of their earlier cd's if Dave could play like Paul Gilbert. Amazing.
I went with my girlfriend to G3 '07 at Madison Square Garden. She couldn't have cared less about Petrucci's or Satriani's set, but really enjoyed Gilbert. I think this song was the primary reason. She loved it. Not many shredders compose anything that your average chick will find even remotely interesting. I think that's one thing that sets Paul apart from his peers.
Normally I would agree with you on some "shredder" guitar players. Although Paul is more than just that. For me, one of the reasons I dig his playing is because he can actually add an element of huge intensity, feel and even accenting in really, really fast passages. It's a nice testimony to his facility on the instrument to be able to do that. Having said that, if you're referring to wanting to hear more like..straight pentatonic, I can dig that I respect your comment. : ) Rock on!
Yeah it is. RG mainly refers to a general model type. It's like Ibanez's version of a strat. In fact, an RG is based on a strat. Ibanez had to change a strat style just enough to stop getting sued by Fender. lol Likewise, a PGM is based on an RG. Paul's played RG's (among other things) for much of his career so the design is the same. So, a PGM is an RG
this song is exceptional. Melodies are off the charts. what is happening at 3:02 is just unbelievable. what amazing phrases and catchy licks. and these quintuplets at 3:35. freaking odd timing!!!! this guy is so good. jeeeee. he is the boss.
great song lots of variety to it. Verses have a van halen feel, while the instrumentals have a nice harmony and skill that guys like paul gilbert can only provide
Yeah, no problem. I don't want to argue semantics. I was just saying that it doesn't matter if Ibanez/Paul decided to call his model "The Fruit-Loop" model, it's still an RG. What the other guy said doesn't make any sense anyway (no offense to him) because all guitars (even of the same style, body wood, shape, model pickups etc) sound different anyway.
Live another day Climb a little higher Find another reason to stay Ashes in your hands Mercy in your eyes If youre searching for a silent sky... Chorus: You wont find it here Look another way You wont find it here So die another day
Silence followed by a Deafening Roar came out a while ago... But he does have a new one called United States that he made with Freddie Nielson (sp?). It is already out in Japan but in Europe and the States we have to wait until April
yeah, i knew malmsteen and satch did vocals but i didnt know about vai. I like Malmsteen's "You dont remember, I'll never forget". Did Malmsteen sing himself in some of his tracks or was it just the other guy that sang "you dont remember, i'll never forget"?
i like this is got some 70's feel to it, at times it reminds me of Boston when he says the whole "space ship one just rules oooooo ah ooo" and the intro reminds me of led zeppelin. any one els agree?
That sucks bro I play guitar also. I had a crush injury to my foot five months ago. A ten pound plate of iron crushed the front of my foot. I am walking doing a lot better but it aches a lot. I feel your pain though I use to be quite active. Still healing to this day though.

damn he's so good and even looks so innocent=) haha... except those times when he was with mr. big=)
Huh, Paul chose to play the bridge after the first chorus an octave higher than the studio recording, The lick starting At Exactly 2:00. I wonder if that was on purpose? It's supposed to start on the 9th fret on the D String. So I'm curious chose to omit the lower octave one... Who knows. If it was confusion, It must be pretty nice if your only mistakes are choosing the same lick an octave up. Jesus.
Ibanez simply overlooked it, then. Or, maybe they didn't feel it was that big of a deal since lables don't really mean anything. However, a PGM is an RG if you want to get technical. A basic RG has gone through a lot of changes over the years. All Paul did, was take one of HIS RG's, remove the tone knob, and put in the pickup's that he wanted (which most people do to any guitar) and eventually removed the tremolo. Point is, the PGM started life as an RG and still is
well maybe in every 10 guitarists, but generally speaking most bassist just follow chords or do fairly simple repeated patterns, so i think he is right in general terms of the everyday bassist.
@orrekorre People don't know what they like, they like what they know. Which is why radio friendly music consists of 3 or 4 basic chord progressions and standard structure etc. If paul gilbert was on the radio, people would be too stupid to listen to it because its actual music haha
Actually, Malmsteen, Vai, and Satriani also include vocals in several tracks...Malmsteen during his Alcatrazz days and Rising Force days, for example. Vai's vocals aren't really "vocals" (it's not singing). Satriani has a crudload of songs with vocals, mostly in his album Flying in a Blue Dream.
Ladies and gentleman I have great news!!! The wait over! I introduce to you the man behind the bucket. Yes....that's right. Paul Gilbert is Buckethead. Go ahead try to prove me wrong.
Paul Gilbert plays rhythm guitar and lead at the same time. Friggin classic
The hallmark of a great guitarist
Had to check in for some nostalgia!

Resuming hes awesome!!!
A great example of Paul exploring different genres, very Classic Rock esque. Kudos PG

Paul gilbert is definetly one of those great guitarists' that I would love to meet. He just seems like he would be a cool dude to hang around with.
In fact, it makes so little difference, that if Paul lost his Ibanez endorsement tomorrow, and Ibanez wanted to still make the same guitar but without Paul's name attached to it, they would incorporate it into their RG line. That was a pretty epic way of introducing which key the song is in! :D
It is an amazing song, though, from an amazing guitarist!
Pauls awesome
he can play crazy, melodic shred and then do a song as catchy as this.
he'll always be an influence to me
Oh My GOD! he can SING! what else can't paul gilbert do?
this dude inspired me to work on my alternate picking. one of the best shredders out there
This song is so great. Its so upbeat. It sounds like something the Foo Fighters would have put on one of their earlier cd's if Dave could play like Paul Gilbert. Amazing.
I didn't think Paul Gilbert would be able to sing this good while playing guitar!
I like the sound of RG's. I use them all the time. : )
Normally I would agree with you on some "shredder" guitar players. Although Paul is more than just that. this sounds like the coolest freakin theme song on earth to a tv show :P
OMG sounds exactly like the studio version, Paul JUST RULES!!!!
You know what? SPACE SHIP ONE DOES RULE!!!!!!
this song is exceptional. Melodies are off the charts. what is happening at 3:02 is just unbelievable. what amazing phrases and catchy licks. and these quintuplets at 3:35. freaking odd timing!!!! this guy is so good. jeeeee. he is the boss.
paul is my inspiration! making up riffs is so much more fun now
Great Guitarist, then Great Singer, and after all Great Pop-Punk Song with awesome guitar technic.
great song lots of variety to it. Verses have a van halen feel, while the instrumentals have a nice harmony and skill that guys like paul gilbert can only provide

Live another day
Climb a little higher
Find another reason to stay
Ashes in your hands
Mercy in your eyes
If youre searching for a silent sky...
Chorus:
You wont find it here
Look another way
You wont find it here
So die another day
I think that this an homage to a cartoon called the Great Space Coaster from the 1980s. The song is a masterpiece though!
Silence followed by a Deafening Roar came out a while ago... But he does have a new one called United States that he made with Freddie Nielson (sp?).
It is already out in Japan but in Europe and the States we have to wait until April
Who'd be unwilling to listen to Paul Gilbert?
I fucking love this. Paul Gilbert is incredible.

I'm a huge Paul Gilbert fan, and I agree wholeheartedly. He's not a bad singer, but he's definitely nothing special. The guitar on the other hand...

well maybe in every 10 guitarists, but generally speaking most bassist just follow chords or do fairly simple repeated patterns, so i think he is right in general terms of the everyday bassist.

Ladies and gentleman I have great news!!! The wait over! I introduce to you the man behind the bucket. Yes....that's right. Paul Gilbert is Buckethead. Go ahead try to prove me wrong.
Nice voice.
It is not a wah... It is a Phaser. He used to use a MXR Phase 90 don't know if he still use it.
