You know, he is a pretty happy drummer behind the kit - but I'm actually giving the title of Happiest to Chris Coleman. Either way, both are unearthly awesome...
It's one of the coolest things in the world to achieve a level of proficiency on your instrument which allows you to cut loose and enjoy yourself. It took a good few years before I knew my scales, keys and modes well enough to dick around and have fun with just about anything thrown my way. It's a blessing and a curse for us musicians. There is nothing better than to be with our instrument, and nothing worse than being without it. Keep rocking. Cheers bruh.
@@chairmankaga101 Yeah, tell that to a guy who spent four years getting a jazz degree and is now playing Uptown Funk for the ten millionth time in some shitty bar for 20 bucks and a sandwich.
I don't think it is Mangini's issue alone though, yeah he may be a bit robotic at times but he's still an awesome drummer. I think that in DT he's "limited" by what they want to play, after Portnoy's departure Petrucci and Rudess became the main composers. He wasn't even allowed to write music and his drum parts until Distance Over Time.
@@fistoftulkas7335 When it comes to drum solos specifically, i dont think it has anything to do with limitations. Mangini gets free creative reign during a solo, but he's just simply a much less creative, much less exciting drummer than Marco.
@@omukssbm That may very well be true. I remember Mangini from the 90s playing with Steve Vai, he was awesome then, over the years he became this technique-freak but probably lost something in creativity.
His first electric was actually a Gibson Custom his family got for like $300, all his guitars now days tend to have similar scale lengths and frets, it's pretty cool how those things got passed on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the hardest part of playing this song for all players is when paul starts the solo as he plays off the beat. It sounds complicated, yet beautiful.
OMG !!!! INsanity !!!! When Paul broke into the guitar soo, he sounded like "The Unknown John Clark" off of "The Bruford Tapes". Marco, that solo was crazy good and very clean. Nice playing guys !!!! IMMACULATE !!! :O
Nice. An Ibanez law suit Les Paul. You can still find them on ebay occasionally. I wonder if Paul's had the original pickups. They were killer. I had the 'PF' version...two actually.
Marco Minnemann.... the happiest killer drummer on the planet.
You know, he is a pretty happy drummer behind the kit - but I'm actually giving the title of Happiest to Chris Coleman.
Either way, both are unearthly awesome...
I know I'm happy (that he dodged the Dream Theater bullet)!!!
Every baby starts drumming in the stomach of his mother with struggling and Marco never stops!
I wish i was 1/10 as happy as him lol
The cool thing about watching Marco Minneman and Paul Gilbert play is that they always look like they're having shitloads of fun.
I think this is key for musicians...to not just play the notes but to be inspired as you play and synthesize your musical expression.

Why else would you do it if not for fun? If you’re playing music and not having fun you’re doing it wrong.

I love that three of the most killer musicians anywhere look like a trio of software engineers and this is their "dad band".
Am I the only one who thinks Paul and Marco look just alike?
Nope! 😊
2 rad dudes having a goooood time
crossed my mind when i saw one of marco's drum solo video, and then found this
Absolutely!!!
And they are both astronauts!
This was my favorite Paul Gilbert solo period. Marco and Linus were a great rhythm section.
very prog-outside, gotta agree it's one of his better solos...
Wow, two of the best musicians on the planet.. hands down..
I love this. Simple riffing off eachother, spacesuits, solos, smoke that makes it look like the drums are going to combust.. Etc
The smoke was the kick drum head. Too much friction!
marco is paul in drummer version ------ paul is marco in guitarist version (i mean in overall personality (fun, funny, friendly etc))
That ONE person that disliked this video doesn't know what happiness is
marco minnemann is such a beast
Separated at birth
The drum solo is BY FAR BETTER than any anoying of Mangini's solos.
cause marco is a better, more creative drummer. hands down.
I don't think it is Mangini's issue alone though, yeah he may be a bit robotic at times but he's still an awesome drummer.

mangini have skills. but not have characteristic.
These trio combination was dope. Wish they continued playing together
that was one of the most next level drum solos ive ever seen....EPIC
What a classic video. You can see Minnemann working on his facial expressions.
8 years later , but still gold 🙌
paul using les paul!! now that's rare!
His first electric was actually a Gibson Custom his family got for like $300, all his guitars now days tend to have similar scale lengths and frets, it's pretty cool how those things got passed on.
Not a real les paul but an Ibanez
@@johnkramer7161 Half right,Not a real Gibson but it is a Les Paul.
@@Diggerdog2nd I'm totally right. It's not a real Les Paul
John Kifflom yeah its not a real les paul...its better lol.
awesome drumming........
paul and marco are amazing, BUT can someone tell me who that outstanding bassist is? what a great player!
Kevin Dotson aka "Linus of Hollywood" is on bass.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the hardest part of playing this song for all players is when paul starts the solo as he plays off the beat. It sounds complicated, yet beautiful.
Not sure what's more awesome. The playing or the suits.
James Labrie was totally right, Marco Minnemann is a phenomenal drummer
I still don't know if it's better for Marco not to be in Dream Theater, but then again, Mangini is a talented musician as well...
Marco is simply the best drummer on earth! unreal!
That was incredible
Wonderful stuff
Been playing this groove for years and never imagined how the guitar was supposed to sound like, Paul Gilbert is truly a pleasure to hear.
This is still one of the hardest videos on RUclips 🚨🚨🚨🚨
Refreshing to see Paulie on a Les Paul ... These guys just had a blast playing together.
OMG !!!! INsanity !!!! When Paul broke into the guitar soo, he sounded like "The Unknown John Clark" off of "The Bruford Tapes". Marco, that solo was crazy good and very clean.
Nice playing guys !!!! IMMACULATE !!! :O
Awesome as always
Monster 🤯 No wonder he’s wearing that suit, he’s smashing every drummer into space!
Just as great as it is always!!!
Thanks much Marco! GREAT Stuff !!!

I didn't know NASA did experiments propelling 3 guys with their music through space and time... I really felt it!
Im a drummer but wow the intro Paul killed it!!!
Gotta love the 70's Ibanez Les Paul. I still have the 1975 crème Ibanez Custom LP I bought in 1983 because it looked just like Randy Rhodes Gibson.
I still have a 1976 creme-white Ibanez LP Custom which I bought in 1982. My first electric guitar was happily a good one.
This is probably a commercial for Tang. Ok im sounding very old lol. Marco you are incredible. Keep that great attitude and that incredible drumming
The best video ever!!!
I had this video at 1.25 speed by accident and couldn't believe how articulate and fast Paul was playing at the start - still amazing at 1x tho
I really would love to see marco minemann ft. Andy james. They both have same quality
It's got to be the spacesuits making them play at superhuman levels.
it must be fun being that good at anything.
Nice. An Ibanez law suit Les Paul. You can still find them on ebay occasionally. I wonder if Paul's had the original pickups. They were killer. I had the 'PF' version...two actually.
That`s no ordinary les paul, thats an Ibanez, BOLT ON ! Great players are, well GREAT PLAYERS !!!
This is how these brothers jam out on the space station
The space suits though lol ...love it. Fucking ROCKS!
Mean magnificent, mind boggling Marco.
Most mesmerising muso making merry moments.
So what you guys are tellin me is basically this song is the modern Moby Dick?
Just WOW@Marco Minnemann

I HAVE TO FINE LOWER JAW IT FELL SOMEWHERE TO THE FLOOR.
Mr. Minnemann is a BEAST!!!
Damn the guitar solo is Jazzy AF
What's up w/the space suits?
Pyrotechnics in a studio😅. Love it!
Paul's idea probably! He is know for his hilarity!
Awesome!
Too much smoke in the studio...that drives you crazy Men ;-)
Bravo from France
Marco and Paul twin
Marco Minnemann should be the next drummer for the Foo Fighters!
Don't insult Marco like that.
They both played with Rush members.
sometimes Marco seems amazed by his own skill :)
Love the mini high hat
An air of different kind of beastie boys playing magnificent spatial tunes.
MY HEROES
What Ibanez SC is that?
CLASSIC video
Damnn the bassist 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I am not at all surprised to see Marco Minnemann's drumkit undergo spontaneous combustion! lol.
The twins

He’s got his 1000 hrs and more! Go Marco!,,,,,,,,
I watch this full leght recording once ,and i was high hahahaha , Marco respect oh, i feel again high without ,
