Bruce Kulick is an amazing guitarist and an even better person. Always enjoy seeing him in interviews. His era of KISS is vastly underrated. Revenge, in particular, is one of the best KISS records in their catalogue.
Bruce did excellent work in Kiss, he never destroyed Ace's original work, he added his own flair. As for dealing with Paul & Gene, wow Paul would be the nightmare, such a control freak.
100% he was always my favorite kiss guitarist. He had his own sound is only unique way of playing those songs that to me was beyond anything Ace could have ever done. I love Ace don't get me wrong, but as far as technique, sound, kulick was it.
When fans don't like "Carnival of Souls" it's not because of disrespect. Bruce was invited to be with KISS in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He said: it meant the world to me. This is respect enough.

I am glad Bruce was called upon to continue in KISS, but in all reality Ace Frehley was the Heart and Soul of the classic KISS sound. By the time Bruce was in the band they were chasing other bands sounds.

After the first farewell tour, I was hoping Paul and Gene would continue with the Revenge lineups with Bruce and Eric Singer. Without the makeup. I thought they were really onto something prior to the reunion tour. Bruce is a great guitar player and a great man.
One day around the end of the 80's, I was hanging out in a guitar tech shop on long island n.y. chatting with the owner who was doing some work for me. In came Bruce. Wasn't aware of who he was at the time, but soon found out in short order, lol. Just the three of us. I didn't say much but simply enjoyed Bruce and the owner's conversation especially his time with Kiss. What impressed me was what a down to earth/regular guy he was/is.

I'd stop by and chat every once in a while as it took him about a year to refret an Aria Pro doubleneck I had at the time, lol. FFWD to the early 00's where I found he had moved to Floral Park iirc. He did some fretwork on the Tokia and I bought a Squier fretless bass. He seemed different.... like beaten down by life or something, idk. Is he still with us do you know?

Bruce Kulick is the real professional in the living KISS cadre'. He defined the 80s and early 90s KISS guitar sound and was the preeminent unmasked KISS lead guitar player. As was the case in the KISS company at the time Bruce like Eric Carr was relegated to being a hired-gun in the decision making process. Real KISS fans in 2024 have moved-on from 23/12/02 and place Bruce as a substantial milestone in Kisstory.
Listening to Bruce, it is no surprise KISS could not produce bangers like they did back in the 70s. Gene and Paul no longer collaborated on songs and even seemed to be working against each other! No wonder "Monster" was such a mess.
I was too young in Ace's era but Bruce had my entire teens and 20's so those albums from Asylum to Revenge was my favourite, the Kiss hard rock era. And Paul had vocally peaked in this time also.
There is no doubt Bruce was stuck between a rock and a hard spot with Gene and Paul. The frustration Bruce had to experience all those years trying to walk on eggshells between Gene and Paul's egos is indescribable. We will never know what diamonds Bruce could have - and should have - been able to do if Gene and Paul would have just learned to shut up, sit down and let someone else make a decision just one time.
We will never know... What diamonds Ace could have created if he had stayed with Paul and Gene in KISS. They taught him to write songs and to sing. But Ace saw diamonds💎 only in his 🍾💉💊🥃. Don't forget: Bruce made a decision! To stay in KISS.

I was happy for the reunion tour but bummed how Bruce was just dumped so to speak for the money grab. He was the guy they said Ace wasn't. Didn't complain, on time, a company guy. Did what was asked of him and just like that you are out. He even said he knew his time was limited because he knew they would put the make up on at some point. The fact he never complained or said anything bad and was grateful for his time in Kiss, shows what a outstanding guy he is.

Not everybody's cup of tea. Some people need "isolation" to write songs. Ace thought he would be more creative outside the band. A group always means "control". That's why he left.
For business decisions, listen to Gene - For musical decisions, listen to Paul! Paul's solo album sounded just like a KISS album, Gene's had only couple of songs that were worth listening to.
I have never understood the concept of writing a chord bed & a 'riff' & then just later saying 'Ok, let me find some words & sing some melodies over this.' To me that is absolutely totally freakin' bizarro. You either get it all at once OR you're don't get it at all. Thats my norm. Doing it the other way to me is totally inconceivable. Boggles my mind how that could work. Lyrics, melodies & arrangement is so intricately intermingled. It is WEIRD to think of building it in bits & pieces.

It's the Paul/Bruce harmony what made Bruce shine on this album. Not Gene.
I am 66 years old and have been a KISS fan since 1973. It is my opinion, after following them for years that Paul is the jealous one. I still love them all, even the "new" ones. But I have seen Paul eliminate guys because he feels they are getting more attention than him. I do not know any of them personally this is just a distant fan's observation. Peace!
Paul is too professional to let his emotions rule. He must have been jealous at Gene when Bob Ezrin decided to give his "God of Thunder" to Gene. But he knew it's better for the band. When someone is not a team-player and tries to be a superstar on his own (Vinnie, Mark St. John?) Paul can be quite consequent. Secondly, when Paul was so jealous of Ace's popularity why did he travel to Ace and begged him to stay? He even told Ace, he can do a solo- career and stay in KISS. My observation is: Paul has his feelings under control. KISS first.

KISS ended when Ace and Peter left the band. By the early 90s, they became a gimmick band of makeup? no makeup? terrible albums after terrible albums. They really became more of a circus act that somehow escaped Las Vegas, with Liberace having a love child with Alice Cooper and Slash from GNR. Paul talking his usual BS about the fans, Gene doing his reality show glitz, it was all about the cash Paul. As the late Sam Kinison would say, "Say It, Say It" lol

KISS ended when Ace and Peter left the band. By the early 90s, they became a gimmick band of makeup? no makeup? terrible albums after terrible albums. They really became more of a circus act that somehow escaped Las Vegas, with Liberace having a love child with Alice Cooper and Slash from GNR. Paul talking his usual BS about the fans, Gene doing his reality show glitz, it was all about the cash Paul. As the late Sam Kinison would say, "Say It, Say It" lol

Paul embarrassed himself w his voice since the the early 2000s. They go out lip synching on top of it all. Tommy and Eric sucked
Kiss put on a great live show but I wouldn't call them great songwriters.
KISS has one song in the "Billion Streams Club" on Spotify "I Was Made For Lovin' You". "Detroit Rock City" will easily be the second. Their song-writing is good enough.

Creatures. Lick It Up. Revenge. All great albums. And every other album had a bunch of great songs. I can't stand "fans" that limit themselves to a certain era only.

Only good album Kiss made after 1977 was Revenge. Everything else sucked.
