Radiohead - Idioteque [Glastonbury 2003]

- Radiohead, at Glastonbury Festival in 2003, playing "Idioteque".
By 2003 most people had accepted the idea that it was no longer possible to crash the festival and hence it is recognised as one of the most successful years to date. The number of tickets available to the public was increased slightly over 2002, partially in response to criticism that the 2002 festival was underpopulated and lacked atmosphere. The tickets sold out within one day of going on sale, in marked contrast to the two months it took to sell a similar number in 2002. It was also the first year that tickets sold out before the full lineup was announced.
This was also the year Radiohead returned to headline the Pyramid Stage.
Revenue raised for good causes from ticket and commercial licence sales topped £1 million, half of which went to Oxfam, Greenpeace and Water Aid. Видеоклипы

FASTER JOHNNY
can someone explain this faster Johnny thing to a dumb dumb (me)
@@boomshroomgoonmoon pretty sure you´re not as dumb as me, the thing is that a lot of the times when they played idioteque live. thom always says *faster* telling jonny to increase the bpm of the thing that he´s playing during the song
@@cyber_cunt2077 That "thing" is called a modular synth I think (I hate to sound pretentious). To be fair to Jonny it seems really hard to play, and Jonny is a musical genius so it really says something if even he can't play it
@@boomshroomgoonmoon If you listen carefully, until the half of the song Thom frequently says "faster Johny" while looking at him. You can figure out the rest on your own I guess.
@@redduckto 1:01 Exactly in this part, thom seems to rush Jhonny Lol
its a REAL synthesizer and he's rewiring it live.
beastly.
I don't think Jonny is rewiring it live. I mean why would he, right?

I kinda hear it but it's as if his lips don't move and he doesn't get away from the microphone at all yet his voice sounds a lot lower at that part and then it immediately turns back to normal. How tf is he saying it? I honestly thought it was someone else saying it
They should change the lyrics to:
1:26
Women and childen, faster johnny, faster johnny
He should make a new song about how Johnny doesn't go faster and how annoying it is!
Mr. Danners Dude, he literally has to dial in every single sample manually on that synth... How is he supposed to be able to go that fast? Don't get me wrong, it is annoying, but still, cut him some slack.

+Fady Wadie hardly underrated when you're doing drums for fucking Radiohead
+Hans Arteaga Romero To be fair, I consider myself a fan of rock music and this is the first time I've heard his name. It's safe to call him underrated.
+Hans Arteaga Romero He doesn't get as much recognition as the rest of the band IMO
+LuPe I'd say Philip and Colin are the underrated ones. Ed somewhat is.
+Hans Arteaga Romero I'd say the rest of radio head gets under looked, in comparison to to Johnny and Yorke. That said, they're the most talented members imo and there's always gonna be people in the band that get more praise than the others.
This is too much for this fuckin world.

Like Nirvana once did with Live at Reading, where they played with so much soul, emotions and will that the songs got even better than the studio version, Radiohead did it at Glastonburry.

@@nsag1109 There are endless discussions around the internet about whether the correct lyrics are “here I’m alive” or “here I’m allowed”. The Kid A official music sheets say “allowed” but there have been errors reported in official RH music sheets before. It is also possible that Thom switches between one word and the other. This performance exceeds the boundaries 240p, probably the only video I can tolerate while in 240p.
What
After performances like this, it was no longer possible for people to say radiohead were depressing. They got slapped with that tag all throughout the 90's until finally they caught up and saw the brilliance. Now people point to Thom's dancing and say its weird.
But those people will probably get it in another 10 years as well xD
People who said Radiohead was depressing were empty people .

Amazing to think this entire production started out as an idea or a single chord or beat
It wasn't like that at all. Jonny made a record of 50 minutes and showed it to Thom. He decided which beats work best and wrote the lyrics
Phil Selaway is one of the classiest drummer I've ever come across! His drumming on so many songs is bloody mind blowing! :D
Radiohead is my generations Beatles'. They may not be comparable musically, but they did the same thing, experimenting and making songs that not only represent their corresponding epoch, but will trancend and influence everyone thereafter.
Love you guys. Keep on making the challenging songs!
Its rare you get a band full of complete music geniuses like this :D

Haven't found a song yet that gives me as many goosebumps as this one.
La capacidad expresiva de Tom Yorke llega a límites insospechados durante la interpretación de este tema... La música fluye libre a través de su cuerpo y de su bendecida voz. Radiohead es una joya preciosa resultado de años de evolución del rock...
This is one of those songs that i love but at the same time was thinking "How the hell could they pull this off live?" But they did, amazingly in fact. I shouldnt be suprised however, anything Radiohead does ushally turns out spectacular.
This is great. I can hear a lot of influence from Aphex Twin
i watch this performance everyday
Man Thom Yorke's performance during this song is hype! I love it! I get this excited usually when I play it at a bar too.
I love Thom Yorke's emphasis
I always praised Radiohead because they did something not many artists would dare: Slip in a depression as a whole band due to the immense success and when people expected a sequel on OK Computer they did the unthinkable and be obsessed by ambient music and try a new sound.
Yeah. Many artists eventually dare to make a more experimental album or project but not at the start of their biggest successes.
cant stop watching this
i love the drumbeat on the 'ice age coming'
Mind-blowing that!
Those who are wondering what Thom's saying, it's "faster". He's telling Jonny to speed up the drum machine.
The fact you can pull this sound off with a band is what makes it so much more special. That and Thom's aggressive singing technique. Relentless. I always watch this clip. Hahaha.
A decade and a half later and I still am too mate
when the climax of the song comes and you can see the huge crowd of people with all the fireworks going off in the background... absolutely spine tingling.

This song is beyond astonishing. The spirit of Can and Kraftwerk has wormed into the core of this. At times this verges on Talk Talk's WTF-IS-THIS territory. Radical, dangerous, essential. Life-affirming.
