    Due to production schedules with yesterday's ICX review (check that out!), we pushed the GPU thermals to the article for this one. You can find those over here! www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2800-be-quiet-pure-base-600-review-quietest-case

      a bit off-topic but I still want to ask you: why is it that so many people just literally HATE Razer products? Is there a backstory I don't know about, story about them like killing pandas to make their products or something like that?

    Watching this in 2023, I don't know if they revisioned this case the last six years. But I just bought one for my new computer and the thermals are pretty good, at least with an AIO for the CPU. Even at 30°C room temperature the computer didn't get too hot when playing games. The top cover is a weakness, but the rest is great, I can still recommend this case, especially when on sale. Even for modern hardware like the 13600 CPU or RTX 4070.

    It's a nice looking case. I don't understand the deal with all the lights and windows. I wish i could find more cases that look like this. I love my corsair 200r. Corsair needs to bring back the carbide series. I guess I'm gonna have to go with this one for a build for my parents.

    I bought the 800 series of this case several years ago and I love it. I hate the tempered glass look and much prefer a modest full side panel, and all the acoustic dampening really works, even with two HDDs spinning inside. I haven't run into issues with excessive heat, but I also run a modest system without overclocks so this case is perfect for my use. Having a quiet PC is such a luxurious feeling that I don't think I could go back to noisy but efficient cases.

  • @Zarcondeegrissom

    Yes, very nice to see something that will not be distracting or impossible to focus on work around. A striking intake concept resemblance to a case I got (core 1300) a few months ago for a family member, If only the timing was better for this one. This looks like a good start for a quiet uATX web browsing PC. Now if only the website the family member frequents did not auto-play every single vid scrolled by, the rest would be fine.
    It would be nice to see more cases that focused more on cooling and quiet operation rather then bling, lol.

      You can often get these for around 65 USD and honestly, around that very price, you re likely to struggle finding any alternatives offering a similar package. I wanted a bread and butter case explicitly without glass (heavy), preferably silent and with the option of mounting an optical drive...if that s on your list, there s actually not that many cases to chose from. My other cases are the Meshify C (for 79USD) and the R6 (for 110 USD)...kinda "hard to get" prices but was deal hunting. I ll therefore rather compare it to the Meshify C: for building, I clearly prefered the PB 600, it s bigger without being R6-big, it has no psu shroud which I commonly like coz it makes it cleaner but it also limits ur options and on the backside of the Meshify you got slightly more space between the side panel and the back of the mobo but that s nitpicking.
      The PB600 cheaps out on rubber seals for the cables- at first glance that s a let down but honestly, it doesn t matter. If you re good at cabling and arranging a tidy setup, the 600 gives you more options (e.g. the disc trays are removable and you can arrange them the way you want as they don t come in any kinda cage or whatever) and is nicer to build in which is partly due to bigger size.
      The paint job of the metal parts isn t on par with any of the Fractals but still close enough, same goes for the exterior plastics quality which is kinda cheap but not like some no name case or pre-builds, I d say it s good enough. The on-off switch is a nuisance on the Meshify and feels much better on the PB600 which btw also has a fan controller (quite unique at its price point!). The side panels are actually much nicer than the Meshify and despite the lesser paint job, I d say they feel better than both Fractals. The plastic esp to the front is some kinda let down tbh whilst the power and fan switch feel nice and overall, bearing the price point for around 60ish in mind, it s still much better than most others I ve seen.
      Forget the top panel btw, the adjustment mechanism is really cheap and more like an alibi...so no, you don t wanna use any kinda config that requires pulling it up...you could remove it entirely but well...
      Thermals are clearly not its strong point but silence indeed is (if you use the fan controller instead of the mobo, it s not audible in its min settings). Running a GTX 780 (most ineffcient/power hungry/ heat producing gpus I owned), it got warm inside without reaching any toasty values, max fan controller speed remedies it but it s still on the warm side. I think the single front fan with small intakes are the issue.
      Now I put a 1660 Ti in it and well, this is a graphics card that simply doesn t run hot or loud so, no issues whatsoever so even the lowest fan controller setting will do fine whilst benching or playing demanding games...yet I still added another Pure Wings 2 140mm fan to the front (opted for the non-high speed BL047 version as its rpm are meant to be the same as the premounted one...which turned out not to be true: the premounted one runs at 900rpm max, BL047 runs at 1000 but the difference isn t audible).
      Was it really necessary...nope but well, I just felt like it could be a good thing- can t give you long term thermal results as I recently changed it, did it more coz I was hoping for more airflow over the mobo for a possible future 3900x upgrade (currently on a R7 1700).
      My personal verdict is: rock solid bread and butter case, probably the best overall if you take features and build quality into account...at least as long as it s sub 75 USD, past that price point it gets tricky and will come down to personal requirements and taste. I still prefer the looks of the Meshify C tbh but I d argue, the PB600 is a much better allrounder with better features.

      @@tinnitusthenight5545 Thanks, glad if it helped you a bit. Bearing the price point in mind (vital when judging cases) and it being sold for 60-70USD, I d say it s currently the best bang for the buck and rather unmatched in its "price point-features-manufacturing quality-ease of use" relation.. and the low noise is basically the cherry on the top. It s the reliable Honda compact car kinda type, there s no real obvious thrills but also no chills...I personally find that very fact thrilling.
      It just came out at a time where ppl focus more on other things like either "max out that airflow!" or "i want it to be shiny and RGB etc" so I m quite sure it s not really a commercial success (sales prices show that) but from a more engineering or allrounder focused point of view, I d argue the PB600 really nailed its requirement spec book and the few negatives don t really flaw the whole thing as they re balanced out but many others. Personally, I d wish for a better looking plastic for the front panel but hey, at the end of the day, it s not the type of case you buy if you want fancy or shiny so I value it s well rounded package.
      I consider buying a 2nd one at 60-70 USD coz I actually fear that this type of a case will soon be gone.
      On another side note: you stated it s not a good time to build a PC right now, I d argue it is... as long as u need a new one anyway...start deal hunting now till Black Friday comes around end of Nov and by then Zen3 is released pressuring the market. SSDs can be had for cheap and they continue to trend down with little margins, same goes for RAM which is at all time lows, the only component that is unlikely to go down and has seen a price increase in 2020 is good PSUs.

    i have this case, and the top panel has room for 2 x 140mm exhaust fans under it. of course it will perform like shit if those fan bays are left totally empty. its a bit of an odd testing setup for cases, because no one will buy this and leave it fanless, but companies that include more fans with their cases will perform better in this testing scheme.
    3x 140mm fans in front (2 x through rad)
    2x 140mm fans exhausting on top
    1x 120mm exhaust in the rear
    fill the available fan bays, not just the ones the manufacturer throws in to get you started, then this case is great.

    • @rykehuss3435
      @rykehuss3435 3 года назад +3

      You want one more air being pushed in than being pushed out, atleast little bit. To keep positive pressure inside the case to keep dust out. So with 3x140mm sucking air in, you want atmost 2x140mm exhausts. One rear one top.

    shove some cooler master silencio fp120 pwm fans in there and she'll breath a bit better. this is one area where the silent base 600 has the advantage because it has bottom intake and permantly open top ventalation which does work...

    Dust issues three years in, with an extra (identical) front fan to ensure positive pressure. Dust seems to migrate through the front panel, so cleaning every few months (or at least yearly) is required. Perhaps normal, but I had a Fractal Design Define C with a similar setup (2x140 front, 1x120 back) for 3 years, and had minimal to no dust build up. Also, building in the Fractal was a dream in comparison, and they cost the same.
    Currently rocking Silverstone (SG14), but Fractal are high on my list for future builds.

    I've changed the fan configuration to the following: 140mm Pure Wings 2 high-speed (front, bottom), 140mm Pure Wings 2 (front, middle), 120mm Pure Wings 2 PWM high-speed (back), 120mm Pure Wings 2 (top-back exhaust). CPU temperatures with 9700K@4,9 with 1,332V don't exceed 70 degrees C during haming with stock fan speeds from Z390 Gaming X mobo (these stay in the 60s), with MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio with only 80MHz OC on the GPU and 850Mhz on memory (it's boosting to 1950MHz by itself so the headroom is pretty slim) and stock fan configuration, temperatures are usually slightly above 70 degrees C, and increasing fan speeds from about 40% to 50% at load lets me avoid these temperatures.

    With the right fans you'll have more velocity thru front intakes, smoke testing will tell what you have from a vap smoke. In HVAC velocity is important, i.e. more air moving slow vs less fast.

      For what reason? The PB600 has better fans, a better top air-vent system (on the R5 you need to remove the cover plates to place a fan, here you can adjust the height of the cover and put fans beneath regardless), costs less (especially the non-tempered-glass version).

    In my journey looking for a case, the optical support is crucial to my use. I have to be able to play / rip Blu-Rays, and I am vehemently anti-RGB puke. This case came across my options. I do have a Fractal Core 1000 in my workshop with an i5-6600k and a 2070 super (the CPU / Mono is getting upgraded) and the thermals there are relatively good.
    I am looking to do an i9-9900 / 3060 build (got the components for free). When doing the thermal testing on this case, were you guys using the stock fan configurations? Would populating the extra empty fan locations improve the thermals?
    Torn between this or another Core 1000, what is drawing me to this one is the HDD mountings. The Core 1000 is horrible with that side bracket.

      I disagree, I like green PCB and showing off my "form following function" aesthetic. Though that may be at odds with itself. I avoid sagging cables and rats nests of wiring, but try to facilitate swapping components rather than routing all the wires to be as hidden as possible at the expense of ease of maintenance. I'd like a white case with a large window, possibly white LEDs, to show off my workstation components and cable management.

    Thanks for the rundown. I bought it before seeing this and after looking around for about a month. I think the thermal concerns for my needs will be moot. I bought this case to "Be Quiet!" as it isn't going to be a gaming rig but it will be a purpose specific, DAW - actually quiet surprised you would have even mentioned gaming rig in the conversation as I don't know one gamer that would consider a case without a vanity panel to show off their build, let alone such a bland case as this. Kinda moot TBH ;)
    I am a little concerned about the small case maybe being challenged to accept the Z490-P mobo with ease as you pointed out (thanks) but again, as a "DAW" that will only have 1 drive for the OS / programs and another as my "write drive" (1x SSD 1x M.2) I'm not really going to sweat it. I see a hefty cooler in your demo rig and I'm using a Noctura NH-U12S so it should fit in there well. Re thermals, this is built as a very budget conscious system where I'm only running an i5-10400, locked and with OB graphics, so seeing it won't and can't be OC'd, no GPU will be employed, again, I should be g2g I'd reckon. If I built a system to handle very large sessions that also included video rendering I would have approached this much differently but compared to my old home rig, where I managed very well, even with the rather meager specs by today's standard and of course compared to gaming rigs (which I do already have and will have both on a KVM) I feel pretty good about it :)
    I have to admit that when I unboxed it, I was a little underwhelmed and expected something that felt a little more robust, but did read some reviews indicating the same so was prepared. Options at this price point were very few and I did like the fact that despite how thin the acoustic panels are (one of the reason I passed on the clear panel, was in order to get 2) I should be able to shave a db or 2 off with this choice.
    I'll pop back once I've run the rig and post my thoughts in the event anyone else looking to build a DAW and not a gaming rig stumble across this video as I did. Cheers.

    In Australia the 600 cost $110, the 900 cost $369 x.X
    Is the 900 that much better?!?

    • @mooiness
      @mooiness 7 лет назад +1

      The 900 is fully modular hence the price difference.

    • @porkchop002
      @porkchop002 7 лет назад

      I'm going to wait until March to get the glass edition - with the caveat of *hopefully* seeing some improvements to air flow. I had a Silent Base 600 back in the day and was impressed :)

    • @porkchop002
      @porkchop002 7 лет назад

      But yeah, the 900 is a bit OTT for most folks. For an ATX mobo, one or two SSD's, one HDD, and your standard air or AIO coolers, the 900 would be almost too big.

    • @SpotTheOzzie
      @SpotTheOzzie 7 лет назад

      I just really like the look of the 900 though, it's such a sweet case. I have exactly what you typed so it would be completely overkill but thats not necessarily a bad thing :P At least it won't be running hot? Decisions, decisions..

    Sounds like this case, though built out of good materials, has a very poorly thought out layout. Looks like a "do not buy" for most users. The motherboard mounting for atx alone blocking off the routing holes raises concern for any user that cares about cable management. The thermals are also pretty terrible.

    Wonder how much difference it would make in terms of thermals and noise to replace the pure wings 2 fans with silent wings 3. Anyone have any knowledge or educated guesses on it?

    • @muuhnkin4611
      @muuhnkin4611 3 года назад

      You can slap 1 additional 140mm fan in the front and 2 140mm on the top.
      Replacing the pure wings with silent wings just reduce the noise further.
      I'm using the pure base with 2 140mm in the front, 1 140mm on the top and the 120mm at the back.
      My specs are currently a 3900x with a dark rock 4 (around 60C under normal gaming load, around 77 while rendering at a 100% CPU load)
      73 on GPU, INNO3D 2080TI X2, so it's the crappy 2 Fan design.
      Temps aren't that bad and it's not thermal throttling. I wanted to build a silent and powerful gaming machine that I can use for 3d modeling as well. It does what I wanted it to do. You definitely can hear the pc, but it's not that loud and a normal fan you use in summer to make the heat more tolerable for yourself is much louder xD

    This case seems to be targeted towards people who aren't enthusiasts and wouldn't require tons of cooling in a case. I wonder how this would measure against Cooler Master's Cosmos II case, which has sound dampening as well.

      Zag Zagzag if you want a liquid cooler to be any quieter than air cooling you need to invest in a huge rad/rads and quiet fans.

    Would you think you could get away with using this with a 9900K for a music production PC? This would have a relatively low end GPU in it (to power one or two 2k screens), which I'm assuming would help keep thermals under control.
    Or do you think there's no way this case could cool a 9900K with a simple GPU?
    I'm looking for the quietest case for a 9900K maybe 9900KS build, so I'm trying to make sense of your charts and find a case that will be quietest considering the CPU that will reside in it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

      @@-primitive-1035 thanks for the interest! I ended up getting an NCase M1, because I realised I needed portability and decided on a Ryzen 3950X. It's a bit of a risk, but the value offered was too good to not try.
      I'm actually documenting the process and turned it into a youtube series. So that all my effort wouldn't just be for my benefit.
      Others may learn from my mistakes and, hopefully, successes ;)
      At the time of writing, I haven't even gotten to the point of first boot yet! Hopefully next week :D It may explode, it may run like a dream. :D fingers crossed...
