@@Shane-Flanagan Sadly, all is Not well. My husband is 'seriously' ill and in hospital. He does NOT have Covid, but due to Covid restrictions I have only been permitted to 'see' him once, but we have spoken on phone. Then last night he was transferred (by a specialist surgeon) to a different hospital for further tests/procedures etc. We know what is wrong with him, but full prognosis not clear yet. Waiting game. He has a long road ahead. cont. .. As for me, I just haven't been 'up to' leaving a comment, although I still watch Claire's videos. They keep me sane, and just seeing Claire's friendly/familiar face each day, helps me to cope. I miss my husband very much and I am very lonely. 😔 ❤ cont. .. "Bye" for now Shane.
@@Lyndell-P Oh gosh, that is terrible news Lyndell! Very sorry to here it. I had a feeling something was wrong with your absence in the comments section but did not expect such sad news. By the way you have talked about your husband, he seems to be a good man and a great support and partner to you. I do sincerely hope all will go well and your husband recovers and will be back by your side where he belongs in no time. God bless and take care 💕🙏
Teasel is so well read, quite the little book worm. And I can relate, I love reading about Tudor history as well. Has anyone else ever read, The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir? I first read that back in 2009 and it was my first in-depth introduction into the world of Tudor history and specifically Henry's wives. I really enjoyed that book, I found it very engrossing.
What a wonderful video! Thank you so much for these book suggestions. I have often wondered what a writer/historian like you would choose to read and which authors you feel are well-referenced. I am very grateful to you and Teasel for your hard work.
Teasel was so focused on her duties she hardly let the cat distract her. She’s such a pretty girl. Really good recommendations, thank you Claire. May I say you’re looking so lovely and cool in your dress - over here in country south Australia, we’re freezing 🥶. Thanks 🙏🥶🥶🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Good to see Teasel again this time sharing her recommendations on top Tudor reads with the help of Claire who looks very Summer ready in pink. Nice to see Maj briefly also. Interesting book choices, not familiar with some. Thanks Claire and Teasel 👍👏💕
I love J.G. Meyer's The Tudors for an overview of the entire dynasty. As it includes the lives and reins of each of the 5 Tudor monarchs(Queen Jane does not have her own section, but she is certainly discussed), it clearly does not cover every single "known" about every single ruler, but it is definitely comprehensive. The book also includes a lot "extras" mini-chapters covering everything from Popes to the origins of The Tudors to food culture to various religious reformations etc. As a huge bonus, it reads like a great novel-J.G.s writing is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend The Tudors.
Great recommendations. After counting I have over 40 books on anything to do with the tudors and I'm looking forward to getting Claires new book on the boleyns at Hever Castle to add to my collection 😀
I'm currently reading Winter King. I am enjoying it and learning much. Henry's story reminds me of "The world is ruled by power and power is obtained by money" Tadeusz Borowski
Author Thomas Penn has his own video here on RUclips. It's called "Henry VII's Dark Truths" on the Real Royalty channel. I've seen it and it's quite good. A favorite non-fiction Tudor book of mine is "Elizabeth the Great" by Elizabeth Jenkins. It was published in 1958, but it's well written and Jenkins's prose is clear and easy to follow. Another favorite Tudor biography I have is "Lady Jane Grey" by Hester W. Chapman, published in 1962. Like Jenkins, Chapman has a straightforward writing style and she doesn't embellish or sugar-coat things. Another favorite Lady Jane Grey biography is "Lady Jane Grey and the House of Suffolk" by Alison Plowden, published in 1985, and is about Jane and her family.
Thank you Claire! I've only read 3 on your list, so lots more reading for me! Do you have a favourite on Queen Catherine Parr? Actually, what are your faves on each of Henry's Queens? (oh and many thanks to Teasel too!)
You & your doggy are hot, here down under me & my dog are cold, a real wintery day here. Thank you for this video & your recommendations. My mother was an avid reader of non-fiction English History, especially on the Kings & Queens. We wanted to know anything about them, we asked Mum!

Hi Claire and Teasel, GREAT book recommendations!! Will DEFINITELY check them out!! Teasel, you're cuter than ever!! Claire, I love your pretty pink dress!! Take care, stay safe and well hydrated everyone!! XXXX
The only one of these I have so far is David Starkey’s Elizabeth I. But I already have saved Ives’s Lady Jane Grey and another couple. Thank you so much for these recommendations cos I always want to make sure I have the most reliable biographies, and sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin, especially if you haven’t read about a particular person before. Out of interest - and if you haven’t already done so - would you recommend which are your top biographies for each of the six wives? I already have Catherine of Aragon by Giles Tremlett because of your recommendation, but I’m curious about the others (especially from his third wife to his last. (As I consider your books on Anne Boleyn to be my bible, I’m covered there - I’m also finally reading Eric Ives’s Life and Death of Anne Boleyn and loving it). Thank you again for another great video and love to all your fur babies x
Thank you for the list. I have a few of them -- Winter King, Edward Seymour and Sisters Who Would be Queen. Have you read any of Nicola Tallis' books? I have The Uncrowned Queen (Margaret Beaufort), Crown of Blood (Lady Jane) and Elizabeth's Rival (Lettice Knowles). Also waiting in my reading queue is So Great a Prince The Accession of Henry VIII: 1509. I also have the collection of Elizabeth I's works and The Tudor Chronicles by Susan Doran. This is very useful because it details the events year by year from 1485 to 1603.
That was great Claire! I have some but not all but I’m sure if you recommend it it must be an excellent book. Will you be doing a similar post about the 6 queens? No fiction for me but I’d love to hear your favorites.

My favorite was Mary Queen of Scots & the Murder of Lord Darnley by Alison Weir.
I have Elizabeth by David Starkey, it's a slow but good book
Oh, good - I have at least half of these, so I know I'm on good ground.
Thanks Teasel and Claire.
