My dad had a 51 2dr sedan when I was in early high school so I've got a couple of these 51's. 2 hardtop and one fleet line (80's issues) and a convertible( early 2010's issue) and yes those definately had oil bath air cleaners. I like the fact that these kits have the correct interior for the body styles offered unlike some older amt/johan kits which seems the standard tub was a convertible interior so they could be built as either or. Cost savings I suppose. Great review and I can say they are fun to build. This hobby is quite addictive. I started building at age 11 or 12 and am 49 now and have never lost my love for it. Love your videos!!
intersting look at this kit matt, always wondered if there was much difference in this kit compared to the hardtop version?,i bought that AMT version around 10 years ago and the parts are all pretty much the same apart from the soft top & boot & those baby moon wheels & all those 2 piece tyres, mine would have to be a 90's boxing or even early 2000's I reckon?,they also make fleetline version of the '51 chevy i've noticed, cheers
Well this global situation has given me much time and I retrieved my stash of kits that include this kit as well as the AMT '51 Chevy Fleetline #T284 that is a fastback but otherwise pretty much the same kit.
I have that kit, factory sealed, will not open it.Even though it's by round two, diff numbers, yours is T272, round two - AMT-608 I just bought two 31 / Chev. Bel Air hardtop kits. Also round two - AMT862/12. These are hard to find complete for the $25 to your door. I want the 6 for a project, but can not force myself to open one. I have in my collection over 900 kits, MOST ARE FACTORY SEALED. Just bought one for the collection 1966 Corvette FACTORY SEALED MPC. GO find one - you will pay close to $300.00 Few years ago factory sealed 1/8 Trans Am - sell U for - $1,000.00 today - tomorrow might be more. More than $25. Then shipping, and tax. Little off on price, look into it. The 1953 and 1954 are almost alike, grill, turn signals and tail lights, they could be made to look like each other. Close to the early 50's, but NOT QUIET. You can almost see it in them, the start of the 53 / 54 shapes.

First car model kit purchased for me as a kid, it was for my 9th birthday. Tried to assemble it. I still have it and the box, it looks like crap....
Maybe it's time for a restoration!!

I have that kit & the dogdish hubcaps are wrong, they look like they came off an '85 Chevy mini-truck. The correct ones have more detail.
"Baby"moons Matt?
1953 is longer and more square.
