I had the incredible good luck to see Cale perform the entirety of Paris 1919 (and more) at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with a full orchestra. For decades this was on my bucket list -- never thought I'd see it happen. Phenomenal experience and show!

What a great expansion on a legendary song from a legendary album from a legendary artist. I guess you could say I like this!

Absolutely love this, the female violinist you see in the background looks like she's having the time of her life.

Paris 1919, non solo la canzone, ma tutto l' LP rimane una delle esperienze musicali più emozionanti...e John Cale uno dei musicisti più completi e più sottovalutati!

Saw Cale and band at rhe tiny Venue(???) club in Soho in 1977----dressed as s Surgeon and Ice Hockey mask---the best gig I have ever seen ever by anyone...did Heartbreak Hotel and so many others....so long ago
    Still stays with me.....

Yes, the Marquee in Wardour Street, I was at that gig in 77. Wanted a Cale T shirt at the merch table...none available. The ice hockey mask was alleged to be a jokey parody of the infamous Cambridge Rapist apparel

Some of the comments about Lou Reed are a bit silly. Reed's Berlin came out in 1973 (as did Paris 1919). Both albums are now considered masterpieces, each mining the 20th century to map out the decadence of the 1970s. The Velvet Underground changed things...the change would've been less significant if either Cale or Reed had missed the orgy.

It was essential that the high note G sounded in octaves at the end of the song, and they didn't play it, a shame.

The VU never fooled the cognisant; Cale & Nico made them, and Reed rode the shirt-tails. Fortunately for him, he could bang out the odd decent rhyme

Come on now. Lou Reed was the man waiting for the man. It does no good to lift Cale at the cost of putting down Reed. Cale stands on his own.

@@squirrelbutler2119 well he recorded it at a slower tempo, so I should’ve stated I prefer his slower tempo recording of that track. Should I tell John that also? So you think no one accept the composer are allowed an opinion? Or definitely they shouldn’t express their opinion!??!😂😂🤣
WTF is wrong with these types of snowflakey attitudes at opinions that are different to theirs?

    • @squirrelbutler2119

"no one accept the composer", instead of "no one except the composer"....credibility shot. If you don't understand basic words, you're not worth debating.
