For excessive talent honoring Bowie ❤Bowie thinks it’s Divine. Better interpretation than his. Word. Thank you John Cale you will most certainly go down in history. For comforting me. My granddaughter I found out on valentine day. I fell on the floor crying. There will be crying tomorrow. Peace love light and joy 😢
This is a profound and deeply moving tribute to Bowie. Cale is such an innovative plate-breaker, always bucking the conventional orientation. The utter joy displayed by the participants, including Cale is wonderful. I loved the lead female vocals/slide guitar work on Sorrow and the choir on Space Oddity. The song selection and arrangements reflect a diverse knowledge of Bowie's music, as well as appreciation and love for the man. I disagree with the poster of this video, that Cale shows zero reverence to Bowie. The opposite is true and everybody is fully on board. Cale gives the songs the full treatment, creating reimagined versions for each one. It is truly glorious and Bowie would have loved it!
@@markverrillo4211 English born, singer/guitarist, Anna Calvi. She's the perfect accompanist to Cale and his avant- guard sensibility. Bowie would have been thrilled to hear such an imaginative rendering of his music...pure love!
Perhaps the zero tolerance reference was meant to honor Bowies irreverent nature to shift shape the decades as he did, showing no dedication to just one sound…
Heaven must be awesome; hearing this beautiful music sounds so ethereal and I think spiritual. When I feel music making me tear up and get chills, I feel it's speaking to my soul
Phenomenal performance.. this would have been so phenomenal to have you and Bowie especially on Major Tom. Wow this would have been so phenomenal! I'm sure he's heard you in the etheric...and there's nothing we can do.... but listen to your beautiful rendition of Space Oddity oh my God it's beautiful. David Bowie is just floating on his tin can right now... And loving you for reaching out ...it's so beautiful... I love this version.

WOW! I bet Bowie would have LOVED these arrangements! Those two should have worked together! Pheew - it got that Velvet underground flavour but in CINEMAXX size! Could somebody PLEASE talk to Laurie Anderson about giving the Lou Reed "Lulu" session - Lous vocals only - and just let Cale do his magic! Now THAT would be triumphant ending to Lous recording career!
Haven’t listened to Lulu yet, how long will it be? Didn’t listen to ecstasy till the day after Lou died. Cale and Reed were very different kinds of artists. Thank you John And Lou for staying true to your vision.

Wow!! I never was very enthusiastic about Valentine's day, but what he makes of it is fascinating !! Great musician lifting another genius. It doesn't get any better.
Really interesting to hear that 6-note xylophone figure at various points in "Space Oddity" - for instance, echoing the words 'sitting in a tin can'. I can't detect it at all in David Bowie's original, so I wonder whether John Cale was inspired by the Langley Schools Music Project version, where it was prominent?
@@jameslaugtug8937 the professional view is they are all rubbish compared to the originals which sorta totally missed the point but that's rock critics for you

I have seen a number of performances from ex Bowie band members, and, well all do offer another dimension. Not certain why they do it, normally musicians in a band find their own level at the back generally, not being disrespectful I have seen Earl Slick try to come to the front of the band, lead the band, in recent late gigs, but it don’t match Still not certain, is it to keep Bowie alive, money, the fact they want to put their own mark on the things they helped create? Maybe Bowie suppressed things!? The jury still out on this one.....
Was enjoying this untill Space Oddity. Was all a bit ShoeGazzey but did not enjoy Space Oddity at all The backing singers are not coming together at all and really let the song down. Not enough Practice Time possibly. They Literally kill the song.
I think it is inappropriate, selfish, and attention seeking to wait for the hush in a quiet show, taking advantage of the moment, only to holler something out. You would never do that at a classical music performance. It's narcissism trying to be clever. On a positive note, Sorrow stood out for me on Pin-Ups. It was always a Bowie song in my mind, though I knew it was a cover. I use to love to sing along to Bowie's rendition, pouring my heart out, cleansing my heart-broken insecure soul.
One genius interpreting the work of another musical genius. Astonishing. And astonishingly wonderful. 🏴🏴⭐️🎶🙏
One of my all time favorite musical artists covering another of my all time favorite musical artists. Inspiring and moving ❤️

My word, Sorrow, that came out of nowhere, SO fabulous!!

Absolutely brilliant. Brave and audacious.
Cale is the best of them all. I love him.

Cale is ...For Real. With him, Music lives. Best of Bowie tributes.
John Cale is a wonderful musician. Classically trained never tamed sounds and visions of his own. Great gig in Helsinki around ten years ago.
He's up there with the great Classic musicians of all time.
I love this song, esp. Cale's voice...very powerful! God I love music!!!

So touching.

Liked Sorrow best even if Anna Calvi made a mistake.
But this is John Cale doing what he does best. Interesting arrangements.

Sorrows coming off like Motown and minimalism at the same time.
wow. and still alive and creative. Cale TANX

Uniquely beautifully performed. JC has such a powerful voice. DB I'm sure loved this tribute.

Fascinating!

I think Cale's version of Valentines Day is superior to Bowies original, it has more depth to it.
@@ForARide now that is silly

Sorrow is not a Bowie cover, originally by the McCoys, covered by the Merseys and then covered by Bowie.
Very true....it's Cover Version of a Bowie Cover. But well done!!!
!
So is whole Pin Ups album, Bowies versions of his sixties favourites. Go and listen.
I was thinking that. I'd hardly think the cover to be ironically "Bowie" either.
