What a band ! Chris Hynde, the most beautiful singer, John Cale as a godfather and Nick Cave, the fabulous.
Great vidéo, thanks a lot !
It blows my mind how f*cking genius John Cale is, that performance of ‘Fear is a Man’s Best Friend’ one of the greatest songs of all time, is electrifying. “Kind of hard to follow that” damn right Chrissie 👌 Three legends on one stage.
This is the You Tube Cube With Teeth It's high time and I mean High time we all said Hello to John Cale The best musician ever but, you have to be one with the galaxy to understand that
Unenlightened androids always find fault with him
In the new world order Cales music is at risk of becoming extinct Mostly out of lack of interest So ! Let's say Hello to him ! Before it's too late ! I want the world to say Hello to Mr John Davies Cale !
One Velvet , one Bad Seed and one Pretender aren't a Circle ... that is a massive STAR
....or a triangle
@@richardjohnson7379 perhaps an eternal triangle..
@An Armchair Sounds like the beginning of a joke.
Nick wasn’t a bad seed, it was Nick AND the bad seeds
Cute but only one right. Chrissie were never in Pretenders and Nick Cave has never been in Bad Seeds. #partypoop
I can't believe how much John Cale's "Dying on the Vine" sounds like Nick Cave.
Or should I say Nick Cave sounds just like John Cale's "Dying on the Vine". You can the hear the influence.
lol, well, John was very obviously responding to how overwhelmingly awesome Nick was on this one. It's okay John, we know youre great.
Listening to Chrissie Hynde I ralized that this is the woman that gave all the good voices to my early love feelings... First love, First dance, first sea, first ........
"Dying on the vine " just sums it all up for those who know that they have so much more to give and perhaps also don't know how to move ahead, to gamble, take a risk, grasp the nettle and believe that what you have is something valuable that a wider world will get. John Cale is such a precious gift to the world. Gracious and generous, polite and caring yet forthright in his own way of what is right. More people need to pay attention to the likes of John Cale.
PS the 3 of them make a great ensemble.
Just stumbled into this vid. John Cale and Nick Cave - totally awesome.
Chrissie Hynde has the loveliest, most supple female voice in rock and roll. And when she did "Kid" (14:00) I completely lost it.
Thank you!
Kid. Yes, I lost it too. Thank you.
Cale just starting right off with the Thoughtless Kind is awesome
I went to this recording. Staggering stuff. AND met Robert Forster and Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens at the bar. Top night.
Im like the biggest Nick fan, but i love that there's all this testosterone flying cross the room with Nick being amazing and loving John, the John feeling like he has to punk up his vibe for Nick, and Chrissie is just over here like aw shucks I'm gonna have an amazing timbre, great chops and simple, pretty punk era songwriting skills, and she tosses it off like "shit i hope that was good enough". She's so great, hahaha.
Waiting for 29, Sep 2024 ,next concert in Berlin, hallelujah 💜🌸💜🙏💜🌸💜
Probably the best female rock voice ever.
I really do like listening to John Cale. Quite a nice voice! Yep...
Three absolute legends in three different genres of music. Fantastic!
chrissie hynde's voice is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good
The Ship Song kind of crushes all the others.... As much as I love all 3 artists, there's no denying that one...
Possibly my favorite song
I disagree, ‘Fear is a Man’s Best Friend’ crushed it as did ‘Back on The Chain Gang’
Lifelong fan of Chrissie...Love her song writing skills, her voice and overall the 'cooler-than-a-polar' bear persona
i'm surprised john cale is so open and talkative. i don't think he would speak that much now but it's nice to see.
Love the Welsh accent to his voice, his insane rants and his pure passion for lyrical verse. Where to my son? I can't stop playing it and singing it in my head. I even sing it like him in the car and drivers must think i'm Bonkers :)
Yes John Cale is superb
Don’t even think about it
Chrissie Hynde's voice, geez.
I remember being in the audience for this and so happy seeing them live. Especially Chrissie Hynde and Nick Cave. Thanks for uploading
Thank you. This is REALLY good!
oh man. Chrissie kills me.
She is referred to as Saint Chrissie in this house.
Kneel before the Queen!
She's the darling love her songs always 🎆
@@bongodave13 Bend the knee for the true queen, Christine Ellen Hynde, first of her name

Oh my God, Nick Cave the best singer ever! Love this man.
Chrissie, for some reason reminds me of Patti Smith, tho each are so unique and great,I would love to see them do an album, or perform together,as for Nic Cave and John Cale, man they both are such great artists, what a fantastic show one of my favorite of all time
I've been a huge fan of Nick Cave for years and just today listened to several John Cale albums- You Tube led me here- and I thought wow that's where Nick Cave must have got it from so now I shall be spending money I don't have just like I did with Nick Cave years ago and buying all of John Cale's albums. Some boring information for you there.
Nice to see somebody discovering the Welsh Wizard! As being new to Cale I'd recommend you his Island Years (compilation of his albums Fear, Slow Dazzle and Helen Of Troy), Sabotage/Live and Music For A New Society. But possibly even more impressive are his live appearances, especially his 70's and 80's gigs. He was a real beast live, once even decapitating a chicken on stage. I have quite a bit of his live stuff uploaded, maybe you want to check it out. Hope you enjoy!
@Justin Case I agree.
@@ForARide Cheers for the heads up I have and will be investing time in your suggestions.
This little moment in time is a true gem. I am so thrilled to have happened upon it. What a perfect grouping of three incredible artists! Thank you. 💖
Love when Chrissie joins in on Henry Lee. Beautiful.
Chrissie's voice....
Chrissie has absolute control of her voice (and her guitar).
Here for Cave and Cale, fall for Chrissie
All of them were so good. Collectively, even better.
Ha, I was at that gig in Cardiff. Was in the merchant navy and found myself in Cardiff doing my ship's cooks certificate. Over that fortnight saw, Pretenders, Roxy Music and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Lucky man - this is a vid that I keep playing from time to time - pure love for these three & you are most certainly lucky for having this moment. xx
Oh man...I love when I get speechless....
aWesome! ... amazinG!!
Cale ❤
Great show. Huge fan of all three. Glad this popped up on You Tube. Cale and Cave have virtually the same baritone voice ( and their names are only one letter apart ). If I close my eyes I don't think I could tell their voices apart.
how amazing would it have been to have been there.
The Ship Song is fantastic
Thanks for posting...the greats...John Cale is coming to town tomorow..dlwp..Bexhill/yeah of all places.
How come I never knew about this.
This is amazingly wonderful.
Thanks for posting
Three of the most amazing musicians ever put on earth. I couldn't have wished a better moment spent than right now listening to and viewing this video footage. Thank you for posting, you made my night.
always kid.....thanx chissy love
all three of them are amazing!!!
sirius
John Cale and Chrissie Hynde are so great!!
you forget one.
That poor church vicar
He writes a sermon with all his heart and soul, hoping to inspire someone, that someone turns out to be Nick Cave, then Nick goes out back and writes a song and the opening line is ‘I don’t believe in an interventionist god’
Dang. I love all 3 of these people. Don't know who my favorite is so I won't even try.
John Cale is vastly under-recognized. To me he was the most interesting member of Velvet Underground. I did NOT just trash Lou Reed there
LISTEN to all his albums.
Nick Cave has one of the best voices in the business at this point in time. Listening to this it's nearly impossible to reconcile his speaking voice with his singing voice!
Listening to their darker sides,I tend to think of Nick and John as the brothers of Jim Morrison the family does not like to talk about.
And Chrissie? Well....she's Chrissie....Such a wonderful voice.
From the big names, I'm afraid only Nick Cave is thrilling at this day. Poor harvest these days.
This was a real treat though! Very very good stuff.
All 3 are peerless songwriters.
良いメンバー!! みんな大好き
wow john sings great here
Fantastic performance, so touching and still energetic.
Wow. Three amazing talents on one stage.
I recently discovered the genious of NC..what an underrated singer.im kinda glad that we got him for the few of us enjoying his awesome music! what an amazing artist! on another level
so nice to hear a real live concert of writer s and all are really wonderful ....
Amazing!
Pure gold.
absolutely class.
what a wonder, thanks!
Great show thanks for uploading it x
It like being in time capsule in this place, I have enjoyed ever moment! Great circle!
What a gem!
The performance of Into My Arms by Nick Cave is very touching. The magic is captured. I am not saying the album version isn't great but I like this version better.
Very beautiful concert.
Great concert!!
This is great.
awesome.
This is awesome
A vuestra salud!!✌
John Cale on 1, Nick Cave on 2, Chrissie Hynde on very best 3
Fantastico
I have love for all three of these artists. Having seen both Nick and John live twice, I appreciate this video very very much -and would never expect them to share a stage. What is interesting is how Nick pushed songwriting as a storyteller singing from a narrative perspective the farthest, similar to Tom Waits. The business of storytelling, pushing the limits of songs he has done with great success. While his writing with piano is far more conventional than Birthday Party, he really created worlds within worlds. Not an easy thing to do in any way, but he approaches it very methodically and with discipline. Who could imagine how he would find his place as one of the greatest of all times? Nothing about Nick Cave in 1979 would predict his future growth and incredible presence artistically.
This event would have been great to attend. Very cool. Wish it was another hour.
I love how everyone here has their own favorite!
Also love that Chrissie does the duet part on Henry Lee - never liked that song before but it's beautiful in a setting like this, and the harmony really is key to it.
And the concept of quite different artist doing one song each at a time in front of an audience in this way, magical!
Great :)
Kind of unfair though to be able to pull such a pair of aces as Into My Arms, as Cave can, though.....
That stand By You was pretty damn good too though, had never heard it before
NC stated in an iterview around this time -- around the Boatman's Call record -- that all that he was trying to do was to write the perfect love song. And I think he succeeded, or at least, made his greatest contribution, with Into My Arms.
Chrissie Hynde, just Chrissie Hynde!
chain gang... it just stole the show for me... she is so brilliant
awesome influence
This was great! They all played well but the ending felt legendary! Ahhh VU
First class artis
all three
lovely set
Wunderbar
This was great! Three complete professionals so we were always in safe hands. It does help to know the songs (e.g. John Cale's "Thoughtless Kind"). Brilliant! Thank you for posting it.
never thought about this climax... unbelievable! who started this collaboration, genius! / heard Cale live that year in Jena, after that couldn't listen to the live-cd for years...
Nick sempre ..... adoro sua voz, adoro vê-lo no palco.... grande presença.....
This is the best version of the Ship Song out there
This is absolutely fantastic. I am knocked sideways by the discovery that Nick Cave has a sensitive side.
his discographie is full of sensitivity... try the abbatoir blues / Lyre of Opheus double album of Nick, just as an example and you will discover pure gold !!
He was quiet, gentle, respectful and sensitive in a video recorded at Marianne Faithfull's home.
I always saw him as nothing but sensitive.
merci
Ele é o cara...manda bem....e morou em SAMPA ..... Pompéia......
Mr John Davies Cale Godfather OG 35%THC delta 9 and I do believe the journey did her well
F-ly nice...
Woooow, that version of Henry lee!.I cant believe how many hidden jewels Nick Cave has, cant stop finding things of him.
Well it is on one of his best known and best selling albums and performed with another rock star in PJ Harvey who he was in a relationship with at the time and it was released as a single with a video but that all adds up to a 'hidden jewel' for you? OK.
@@truefunksoul8638 i meant THIS version of the song, not the original with pj Harvey that i listened thousand times. Or you dont read well, or you dont see the difference between both versions.
He sure knows how to make himself better and better///
For an introduction to the musicianship of the great John Cale, you could listen to the piano on Nick Drake's 'Northern Sky' or the viola on VU's 'Venus in Furs'.
Intro to Nick Cave......'As I sat sadly by her side', or 'White Lunar' album with Warren Ellis.
Chrissie Hynde.......'Kid', or 'Private life'
Carsick Mick or indeed the cello on Nick Drake's Cello Song.
+Carsick Mick also his viola on Brian Eno Golden Hours, great track
The viola on Venus in Furs is the most spectacularly tortured viola I've ever heard. It couldn't be better!
Agreed!
Why take 2 collaborative songs as an introduction to Cale, when you can have the real deal with his solo work. E.g. The Endless Plain Of Fortune from Paris 1919, exposing Cale:s classical talents. In contrast to that I'd take Sanities from Music For A New Society, which pushes the boundaries of common music to its extreme. Both albums are a masterclass and express the musical range JC has covered in his career, making him possibly the most versatile musician there has ever been.
one ❤ ❤❤❤
Omg Chrissie
super musicians
The Subterania re-launched this year.Still has live gigs.
OMG what Cave does man oh man...
21:21
(Dying on the vine lyrics)
I've been chasing ghosts and I don't like it
I wish someone would show me where to draw the line
I'd lay down my sword if you would take it
And tell everyone back home I'm doing fine
I was with you down in Acapulco
Trading clothing for some wine
Smelling like an old adobe woman
Or a William Burroughs playing for lost time
I was thinking about my mother
I was thinking about what's mine
I was living my life like a Hollywood
But I was dying on the vine
Who could sleep through all that noisy chatter
The troops, the celebrations in the sun
The authorities say my papers are all in order
And if I wasn't such a coward I would run
I'll see you me when all the shooting's over
Meet me on the other side of town
Yes, you can bring all your friends along for protection
It's always nice to have them hanging around
I was thinking about my mother
I was thinking about what's mine
I was living my life like a Hollywood
But I was dying, dying on the vine
I am a big Cave/Cale fan, but I have to admit that they are both eclipsed by Chrissie Hynde here, who wrote so many great tunes (and didn't even play Brass in Pockets) I would have loved more onstage interaction here, but what mere mortal am I to argue with these three gods.
