I remember hearing 3 of those 8w6's in a friends car back in 1997 and being completely blown away. I knew then that JL Audio was the top dog in car subwoofers and have always used JL subs ever since.
Thanks for the history on JL 8" subs...that was very interesting! I have a trio of the original 8W6's and they sound SO good with about 900W! I've also compared the 1st gen 8W1 with a similar gen Polk dB sub and all I can say is the JL took the prize for best sounding and deepest bass output
I wish you guys would bring back the original W3v1's and W6v1's. I had a pair of 15W6v1's and a pair of 12W6v1's and a pair of 12W3v1's back in the late 1990s in the different systems I had back then, and I loved them. I still consider them as the best subwoofers of all time. They all hit hard asf and got super loud, you could hear me coming way before you saw me. I would set off all the car alarms as I would come down the street and they were all in sealed boxes. If you would bring them back you guys would make a killing in sales. My favorite system I ever had were the two 15W6v1's with a Rockford 1500 amp pushing them, they were so loud it would make your voice sound like i was talking into a window fan. I would rattle the hell out of the windows in your house and they pounded with authority, they were insanely loud, and they were in a sealed box too, I can only imagine how loud they would be in a ported box. I would love a pair of them again, even the 12s I would take.
I have just bought 2 8inch jl w1-4 that have a great deal of age on them! After refoaming then both i have put them in a 2017 chevy silverado double cab in .22 boxes and they didn't disappoint me !
Thanks for reaching out! We actually just touched on this subject in our newest live session. We'll be uploading to our RUclips channel soon, so stay tuned!
You need to bring back the 100 watt rms subs ,, i still have my W0 10"" and just redid the rubber foam because it dried out and cracked.. some of the best slam your chest in bass
Can you confirm if the JL Audio 8w2 is the first sub offered to the public. Also, any information on the original 8w3 (single 4 ohm) as well as the w5?
So I am about to buy two of these for my wife’s new suv and my truck. We both wanted some great bass still but needed to figure out something with space limits so I have been looking around and found great reviews on these however we are doing one in each vehicle and we both had 2-12” Jl’s in our previous vehicles that are now collecting dust in our garage. So my question is there a box you recommend to buy to get the greatest amount of bass out of these and which amp do you prefer. Right now she has the Jl audio 400/1 and my previous amp is no longer with us. Thank you for your time and it is much appreciated.
Thanks for reaching out, Peter. That question may be better suited for our tech team. You can submit a request here: jlaudio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Great walk down memory lane in this video. I have and still use daily an 8W1 that came pre-installed into a half round micro 8 sub box from way back in 1997. Been in 4 different pickup trucks over the years and just keeps on going. I love the small size of this micro sub enclosure and was wondering what current JL subwoofer you would recommend to replace the original woofer with and could I expect a noticeable output difference? Guessing a 8W1v3 would be a good match for that small ported box?
The 8W1v3 uses a smaller enclosure by 1/3 than the original 8" W1. If you were to use the V3 in the original enclosure you would extend a bit lower at a cost of sacrificing some of the upper bass frequencies.
i pay for the best, because of longevity and then sound quality. i have JL in my vehicle, still going strong with over 10 years of pounding. almost 15 years for my house. i like the Rockford Amps better. cleaner bass
A long shot but I have one of the microsub boxes with two 8in and one of the speakers is damaged is there any way I could reach out to please possibly get this one fixed or replaced I really want to Preserve and utilize this
Good afternoon Ashley, Thank you for contacting us! We apologize you are having some issues with your speaker. Unfortunately, we no longer service the 8w1-8. Very glad to hear it, Sam. Thanks for sharing that story. We greatly appreciate the longtime JL Audio support.
Just bought one 8W7AE-3 and I have to say it's nice to find something that sounds like a pair of 12's w/o using all of my trunk space.

Big D Wiz what are you doing over here shouldn't you be testing some amps
I had an JL 8 back in '02' and built my first box to spec and that sub beat hard.

The cp108 enclosure sounds amazing for an 8". Customers were always happy with them. It just goes to show it's all about the box!

Glad to hear, Joey!
Thanks for pulling out those classic subwoofers, I love the classic JL audio look, I wish they would produce the same style with the new tech.
The 8w2 looks like the Hybrid Audio I8SW. And we need an 8W6 please JL!
Today I bought JL 10W03-4 for my home sub.
I have kenwood sw301 active sub. It's 12 years old and needed new speaker. I hope it will sound well
Hope you will do some Bandpass enclosures again like in the 90's

Great video btw... But I really want to know what that speaker was in the back ground...?
I wish I still had my WO2ohm they were awesome 10s blew out the my cuzes VW rabbit windows. Hard tight bass you couldn't beat it..
The w3 has the same sealed and ported recommended specs. Is that just to sell that slim ported JL enclosure for the w3?

We greatly appreciate the kind words!
what size amp would you suggest for 2 12w6v2
Would the 8w1v3 work as a replacement to the stock woofer on a Kia optima no box just installed to the back center part using the trunk and the box?
Or the 8w3v3?
All of our mobile subwoofers must have an enclosure for proper control. You could do our Marine M8Ib5 which is designed for free air.

Any Of These Work In A Free Air Application?
No, W1v3 subwoofers are not designed to be in infinite baffle applications. I would suggest the M6-8IB subwoofer instead.
Dont care about any of that I want my IB8 reissued!!!!!!!!!!
What made the ib8 so special?
you misssed 10 w0 10w1 etc..
Si te e fayado te pido perdón
