"Fever Ray and the song Keep the Streets Empty struck us immediately with its fateful sound and images of abandoned suburbia begun to grow in front of our eyes. I'm not 72 lol I'm alone...in a battered auld caravan...in the Scottish Highlands... It's after midnight...on a pink moon and the peak of the lyrids meteor shower 😍 and this is the theme tune I chose for tonight's movie for one... I'm heading out to look at the pink moon and catch a few shooting stars. Couldn't make this perfection up lol. Pure bliss 😁♥️😎

I was walking home in Edinburgh to that song one night, after a late library session in the middle of the winter. Snow was falling and the streets were eerily empty so it just fit perfectly. Just as I was about to arrive I met a fox under these old pedestrian lights, its footprints imprinted in the snow, watching me. I remember staying there a while, thinking how peaceful this was. Perfect song, perfect moment.

Now as a grown man, I'm finally becoming able to go back, way back through the time, to the place, and find, hug, comfort and talk to the child I once was, and who is sitting there alone, frightened, hurt and misunderstood. It is not your fault, it never was but you loved those who made mistakes and they put their pain onto you because they couldn't carry it any longer. So now what? Use what you have to help others. Memory comes when memory's old
I am never the first to know
    Following the stream up North
Where do people like us float
There is room in my lap
    For bruises, asses, handclaps
    I will never disappear
    For forever, I'll be here
    Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
    I'm laying down, eating snow
My fur is hot, my tongue is cold
On a bed of spider web
I think of how to change myself
A lot of hope in a one man tent
    There's no room for innocence
So take me home before the storm
Velvet mites will keep us warm
    Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
    Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Uncover our heads and reveal our souls
We were hungry before we were born
Uncover our heads and reveal our souls
We were hungry before we were born
Uncover our heads and reveal our souls

I used to listen to this all the time while camping, there was reports that the quarentine would last years, so I camped again to fix our brains, to convince us not to quit living, I camped during huricanes, during day after tommorow flash freezing temperatures, I worked , worked out, set world records, set ongoing world records, colonized, helped people I didnt even know like aurora and kati ran, missed my parents and lived until the quartine was over and I still live. I have lived and am proud of myself. And I live.

We need to tend to the wounded, as the human soul is at odds with itself, and suffering. We ignore the tired, drug-addicted, homeless suffering on the streets. That is not a problem that will heal itself, but requires action, in inspiration from our artists who have become god-like in their castles and disconnected from their people. Say nothing of our leaders, because they are even worse. What do we do? I start with myself, and devote myself to first trying to heal the core of my beautiful city, Seattle. I start in 3 days working downtown on the streets of every alley I know all too well. I do it for love of humanity, and for whatever good may remain within us. Great Song.

Heilkraft Thanks for the info. I like it ! "I'm laying down eating snow" takes a new meaning, as a calling from Nature herself, instead of being a request for solitude. That being said, there's always more than one interpretation to a work of art.

    Keep the Streets Empty
    Memory comes when memory's old
I am never the first to know
    Following the stream up North
Where do people like us float
There is room in my lap
    For bruises, asses, handclaps
    I will never disappear
    For forever, I'll be here
    Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
    I'm laying down, eating snow
My fur is hot, my tongue is cold
On a bed of spider web
I think of how to change myself
A lot of hope in a one man tent
    There's no room for innocence
So take me home before the storm
Velvet mites will keep us warm
    Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
Morning, keep the streets empty for me
    Whispering
Morning, keep the streets empty for me

I really feel like I need to explain this song from the perspective of a homeless person. Because as hauntingly sad and beautiful as it is, I feel like it is more so, from that perspective.
I feel like the first verse is expressing moments of abuse that much of the time will lead a youth to homelessness most likely coupled with the abusive lifestyle of actually being homeless. There are many preditors that prey on the homeless and when you are living with serious abuse and you become homeless, there is even a concern that you may be killed and yet a refusal to allow that to happen...a refusal to become one of the dissappeared and a will to fight for yourself.
I feel like the chorus refers to the need for the homeless to stay invisible, when you are invisible you can't be arrested or targeted. So, when morning comes, you are praying the streets stay empty until you can find a way to blend in or somewhere to go.
I feel like the next verse, is showing how it actually feels to live on the street. When you live on the street, you will find food and bed wherever you can, even if you have to eat snow or sleep on a bed of spiderwebs but at the same time, you are thankful if you have a warm coat. In those moments, when you are alone and going to sleep, all you can think about is how to change, how to fix your life. You have to cling to hope in order to keep going...even when you look around and see that you currently live in a tent or (if you are real lucky) a car but one thing that you lose, that you never get back, is innocents. You can't remain innocent, when you see what happens on the streets or behind certain closed doors, where you or someone you know might end up and because you know how bad things can get, you pray to find home before you lose hope or become a statistic.
I feel like the last words "uncover our heads and reveal our souls, we were hungry befoure we were born" is the full truth behind all of it. If people could take off the veil of prejidice or the mask of invisibility and see the Human being and thier, likely very sad, story...maybe we could make a change. People like this are not bad people, most of them never really had a chance. Alot of them are born into poverty, abuse, mental illness or drugs. Some of them may have had to run and hope for the best, in order to save thier own life.

Sunday, June, 5 am, small town in the north of Russia. White nights are here, so it's never dark, but the morning light is gentle, and the air still smells fresh with young leaves and grass. Wandering the streets alone, music softly playing in my headphones, while the town is quiet and asleep around me, I am not afraid, I am safe and calm and free, and the loving home is waiting for my return.
I know I can never go back to that place, so it's bittersweet, but it is still one of my fondest memories.

When I first moved to Nenana, Alaska (just south of Fairbanks; only 500 people) in January, 1985, it was the quietest, most still place I had ever experienced. With temperatures at 30-40 below Fahrenheit and 20+ hours of darkness, it was amazing how inactive and still everything was. No birds (not even the ravens, which were quiet at night), no insects, nothing. Dead silent. I ended up listening to a lot of Christian Death and Bauhaus; it just seemed appropriate at the time.

When I heard this song on the Netflix show "Dark", I thought that this was a song from "The Knife".
Shazam showed me that it was "Fever Ray", and after a quick Google search, I realised that I wasn't that wrong after all. :D
    I really love her voice!

I used to love sneaking out of my boarding school and wandering the empty streets, the woods and heaths at night. It was an escape from painful, unhappy, stressful captivity into a quiet and mysterious world, simultaneously peaceful and thrilling. Under snow, the mundane was transformed into the magical - all the more so because in southern England it's so rare and so ephemeral. This music captures the essence of those memories so well.

I don't even remember the first time I heard this song, must be in high school about 8 years ago, but I've never lost this recondite connection to it. I grew up drifting through many different periods in my life, moved to another country, changed lifestyles, views, friends and looks, but throughout all these years this song meant a lot to me, it soothed me and reconnected with my deepest essence, let me feel the unfathomable force of creation and hear the eternal call of emptiness from the deeps. It guided me through lonely walks in all kinds of places around the world and inside my head. It covered me with an invisible blanket on the darkest night and lulled me to sleep. And now I'm here to listen to this song one more time on the eve of my 23rd birthday so as to wrap up one more year of my life and return to what's most important. Thank you, Fever Ray, thank you for writing a score for my life.

I heard this Song around 10 years ago in my first flat. It was a dark and cold day in november and my first love broke up with me. I felt so damn sad and lonely. I had literally no one to talk and began to drink to ease the pain. At this night i discovered a lot of good music. Fever Ray helped me because i felt understood. Music is such a wonderful thing

Idk how I found this song but I remember I was driving and it just stopped raining so everything looked shiny and I wasn’t driving fast but steady. And this song started playing. Legit I felt like I was the main character of a movie. One hand on the wheel. And elbow on the hand rest and my hand on my face as if I was “thinking” just cruising along to this song.
    Such a good vibe
