My favourite song of all time and what a beautiful rendition. Perfect pitch and word Perfect. I am 85 now and I think I was 11 when I first heard it. Beautiful.
Well actually...we have technology to thank for smoothing out tone and voice dysphonics when recording of voices all started, that's when imperfections could start to be masked over....and the beautiful origin of a voice was not as authentic.... but i'll give you this...no auto tuning was occurring in 1958.
....I was looking for My Foolish Heart on You Tube and came across this random version, I clicked on it because I just thought she would be good....This is sublime.
Massimo from Italy. Today I discovered Ethel Ennis. Oh my God what a beautiful voice! Artists of this class are unfortunately very rare! Wonderful!!!❤❤👍👍
WTF is up with RUclips putting commercials in the MIDDLE of a sublime piece of music??? That trend needs to end. I love Ethel Ennis, she deserved to have been a huge star.
Oh my god, how haven't I never heard of ms. Ethel? I'm so mad I just got to discover her now, what a marvelous singer! I love how getting lost on my RUclips recommendations always leads me to some great new music discovery lmao I'm soooo getting her discography, excuse me.
I am 71 years old and an avid music listener since the early 1950's, but somehow this gal evaded me; was she "under wraps," or what? @@thinkthensend9228 That's amazing! I am the same age as you and I remember her from my teenage years. I lived in Philly and she is from Baltimore. She is an incredible singer!

The night is like a lovely tune Beware my foolish heart How white the ever constant moon Take care my foolish heart There's a line between love and fascination That's hard to see on an evening such as this For they both have the very same sensation When you're locked in the magic of a kiss Her lips are much too close to mine Beware my foolish heart But should our eager lips combine Then let the fire start For this time it isn't fascination Or a dream that will fade and fall apart It's love, this time it's love My foolish heart
Just watched a movie by the same title and had to search the song. So happy to have discovered this version. Beautifully sung by a an ever greater artist...
This is my favorite version of Foolish Heart. I only came across with it late last night. I only learned about her only last night but the moment I heard her she has become one of the very, very few singers I like most... I wonder why she didn't have that celebrity status as that of Sarah Vaughan, my top one favourite singer, and Ella.. Hmm.. I've heard a lot of versions of Foolish Heart but hers is indescribably beautiful.More than class. Ethel is like the female counterpart of Billy Eckstine?
I have to admit I am someone who has listened to virtually every wonderful female singer ever recorded, the top names, as well as some of the lesser named vocalists who did quite well in the music business, like Patti Bowie, Patti Drew, and Teri Thornton, and how I missed Ethel Ennis I shall never know. She was simply marvelous.
Ethel was so fine a singer. I first heard her as introduced by a music mate, mid '60's, as he made a stereo by setting speakers in his cocktail cabinet ends. And, I have a video of her in her own club, New Years eve in Baltimore, with Joe Williams, Gerry Mulligan, Toots and many other fine musicians. So many excellent (often minority) jazz people got far less than was fair. Think of Arthur Prysock, Johnny Hartman, Gene Mumford of the Dominoes.
Acaba de destronar a Carly Simon en mis preferencias de esta canción , que hermosa voz muy agradecido porque no la conocía, en esa interpretación tenía yo 8 años apenas. Gracias mil!! Carlos Hernández Valencia Carabobo Venezuela
Her performance is emotional and swinger, intimate and warm, cool and beautiful diction. My most favorite singer. Since 1978 、I had been listening her records every day. Especially,”I cried for you" this track is wonderful. Dramatically different her to the correctly rhythm, warm striking vocal. She is amazing singer forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get from her jazz vocal value and happiness. unfortunately, she is underrated top jazz singer.
February, 2019 If anyone is curious about Ethel Ennis, she turned away from fame. But because she had died, now is a good time to read about Baltimore’s “First Lady of the Blues”... I hope some of you were as fortunate as I was, to hear her sing at her club, ‘Ethel’s’...a wonderful club. RIP beautiful lady, you did very, very beautifully here on Earth 🌹

Gorgeous! I like ti slow, like this - her version is similar to Margaret Whiting's. Try it! But EE is just great here, on an absolutely wonderful song.

This is bullshit -- THIS woman is incredible. Where has she been? What did those damn record companies not do right for her? Her voice is just perfection. A little Jo Stafford, a little Sarah Vaughn. Don't tell me you don't know how to promote a talent like this. She should have sung with Brook Benton, Ray Charles and Nat King Cole. If not, later she should have sung with Johnny Mathis. This should have been a slam dunk. Good songs, great voice & wonderful musicians backing her. What happened? If I was a manager in the music business I would've scooped her up in a minute -- after hearing one song. I would've booked her immediately at the Newport Jazz Festival. There was virtually no work to be done -- she had it all. I'm really upset she didn't make a bigger dent in her career -- she deserved it so. I blame the record companies, & whatever management she had. Up until just a few minutes ago I never heard of her. And I listen to tons of music, some obscure as hell.
My favourite song of all time and what a beautiful rendition. Perfect pitch and word Perfect. I am 85 now and I think I was 11 when I first heard it. Beautiful.

I am a proud Baltimore citizen! Ethel Ennis was a treasure and she will be missed!
Nobody singing this music like Ethel Ennis, is a special singer.
Can you imagine being such a great singer that your voice is this crystal clear in 58?

Lovely pinch. Her sound is so pleasant to the ear.
Well today I have discovered Ethel Ennis and I am a better person for it. My goodness what a voice and what a life she lived...did it her way.

Same here, discovered her today - and what a delightful, sultry voice!
This is such a fantastic arrangement. I can't get over it. It matches perfectly with the singer.

Tasty singing, and this is a great song that isn't heard enough. Buddy Morrow did a nice instrumental for Mercury.
