- Should you buy the iPad Mini 6 or the iPad9? If you’re anything like me, then you were super excited when Apple announced the iPad Mini 6 and the iPad 9. With the Mini, it had been two and a half years since the 5, and with the iPad, I wanted to see what Apple added to the entry level model to make it better. So let’s talk about: what are the important differences between these two iPads; and which one would be a better fit for your needs - so you don’t waste your money. .

What's up everyone?! I hope this comparison of the iPad Mini 6 and the iPad 9 was helpful. Did I cover what you wanted to know? What else did you want to see or learn about?
Nice work..
ye it was useful but i want to ask if iPad air is the perfect iPad for students? and for casual watching videos and browsing on social media
Yes it was very helpful video👍 I went ahead and ordered the iPad9 since im on a budget but I did max out the storage to 256 also I still get excited about the 3 mm headphone jack and about the new camera with center stage! I’m enjoying my new IPad especially the bigger screen , even tho it’s a little hard to hold without a case waiting on that ….great videos keep up the good work
@@thanialthani7875 the iPad Pro is the perfect iPad for students bc of the big display soooooooooo yeah
I love the iPad Mini
I got my iPad 9 yesterday and I’m in love. This is my first iPad ever and I went back and forth of what iPad to get and I ultimately decided on the 9. I’m glad I did because it’s perfect for my use cases and the more expensive ones were overkill for me. The mini was just too small for what I wanted out of a tablet.
The mini is basically so you can use the second gen pencil on the go as an compliment to your job, eg pilot, engineer? Etc, also extremely portable so more of a companion all day where as other ipads will be used at home or on a stand.
I feel you. I just got my ipad 9 lasti night... 👍
iPad 9 Kd 7
Ipad mini is definitely for portability. I need to bring my work everywhere and the size of the ipad mini fits my purse. I can’t go back to the regular sized iPad,; I have my mac air to do the rest of my office reqmts.
@@xd-qi6ry but still you cant carry mini in pocket like phones...its portabilty is same as regular ipad..you have to carry bag...
Watching this on my iPad 9! The Non laminated display isn’t even noticeable. This video looking crisp in 4K!
😑, ipad 9 doesn't support 4k.....🤦
@@commanderlol3502 is 2160P not 4K? Idk lol but it’s looking good
Thank you for the feedback!
@@baldaslove pixels on the display is 4k, but ipad 9's youtube doesn't support 4k
@@commanderlol3502 looks way better than 1080p though
I love my iPad 9. It does whatever I need for it to do & it's a great productivity device. Plus, my Logitech Combo Touch keyboard I used with my iPad Air 3 works just fine with it.
I went with the iPad mini 6 because I loved the small and powerful form factor. My first iPad that I am upgrading from was an iPad 4th gen which over the years it had been getting a lot slower and less usable but still works. I think it will be a really nice upgrade for watching movies or reading books, taking notes and drawing etc.
U were stuck with iOS 10? Jeez
@@idkyiexist3534 what!! She said iPad 4th gen and also even if she was, iPhone X isn’t n bad lol it’s only a few years old and most people don’t upgrade for every new iPhone or ipad
@@sweethotcocoa8357 I think he meant IOS not iPhone, it's painful on an old operating system but the iPhone X runs the latest iOS so yeah definitely meant the operating system
Ipad 4 th gen was my second ipad
Congrats on your upgrade I just upgraded from my iPad 2 to the 5th gen the first of the $329 models
I went Mini. Never thought it would end up being my fav iPad ever. and I tried ALL of them from the 12.9" New Pro all the way down to the mini. and I LOVE it.
Hi is the display too small for video edit , photo shop etc ? I am torn between ipad 9th gen and mini ... Can't afford air or pro ...
@@pratyulmusic small screens are, by default, less useful for video editing, drawing, etc. But this is a pinch to zoom era and the mini is plenty big enough to do what you're talking about- it just may take you a little longer
@@pratyulmusic I illustrate a manga I print under a pen name in Japan, I am using a Ipad mini, love the small size. since i draw in small to large notebooks, nbd to me. I appreciate the mini 6, I use it more then my new pros which I "did use" for other stuff.
I want to take notes in conjunction with my computer and will probably be doing heavy note taking. Do you think the mini would be worth it as opposed to the ipad 9?
For sure I got my mini it is the best
Watching this on my iPad mini. Love it. Works perfect for what I need.
Great video, really enjoyed the clear, concise, explanations of the differences, a nonpartisan approach, and a great summarisation at the end. Wish there were more channels as honest, straight, and gimmick-free as yours. Thank you.
Oh wow - thank you so much for the kind feedback. I appreciate you being part of the channel!
Buy it nice, or buy it twice. Man I love your reviews. Chock full of the details I need. Truth be told, I will get the mini first and yet will eventually end up with the other one too as I upgrade several iPads.
I really enjoyed your review. You are a good speaker, factual, neither lurid nor boring. Keep up the good work!
I picked up the Mini 6 to use with a DJI Mini 2 as the controller display, I’ve been using it for way way more than that though. Love the size and the portability. Fits in a coat pocket. I have an M1 11” Pro, and use that for most things, but now I’ve got a little one to do other things on while I’m watching RUclips.
I also am looking at the Mini 6 to use with my Mavic 2 instead of my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I use my IPad Pro with my Phantom 4 and while the tablet extender I have for the Mini 2 will fit the full size iPad, it’s just too big for the controller.
To be honest, my iPad 9th gen is probably the best thing I ever purchased period and it’s also my first ever Apple device. For those that want to test drive Apple’s software capabilities and wanted to switch to Apple, this is the best bang for your buck right there.
I like the iPad Air 4 more it has a flash
@@williamwildcat yeah but who cares about that? Everyone has a phone
Same first iPad I have ever bought and really enjoying it from gaming to streaming great device .
@@chrisbelfast6662 I recently bought 9th gen but every time I play pubg after 4 mins my ping goes to 250 both in classic and tdm. Do u hv the same issue?

Can’t wait to see the video editing comparison and rendering speed 👍
@Tech Gear Talk you always had the best reasonable point of view👐
Nice vieo, thanks
After nearly 3 years with the iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017 I switched last year to the ipad mini 5, but only to realize after a few weeks,
that the 7.9 screen was quiet to small. Checking the new mini 6 at a local dealer, I decided to get it.
And I'm very happy. it's amazing what an extra 0.4 inch of display can do...Love it...
I had a mini 4 for many years. I recently replaced it with the iPad 9. One thing I had trouble with the mini was reading graphic novels on iBooks. I decided to get the larger screen (for $170 less). I really don’t use the pencil so bigger screen and less $$ sold it for me. And I’ve totally enjoyed the 9 for weeks now.
Is reading on a larger screen good or what experience do you have ?
@@saurabhmuneshwar I found it better for all reading. Standard books were fine. The big improvement was with graphic novels like Watchmen or Kingdom Come. The larger page provides a better view of the artwork.
Great review. Thank you for pointing out the difference of laminated display. I always wondered if it matters.
Got to tell you - be careful with those laminated screens.
As nice as they are - I have had TWO of my iPads that had that feature eventually develop one - or more - bright white spots on the display -that does not come off.
Not sure how common it us but if you research online - or even look at iPads on eBay - you will see this is more common than we probably thought!
I went with the iPad 9 with that old classic display- sure the design is a little boring I guess - but none of my previous iPads with that design had any display issues at all!
@@johnrigs6540 thanks for this info. I'll look into it
Upgrading from an iPad Mini 4 64GB to the iPad Mini 6 256GB and getting a $140 trade-in value on the 4? Yep, I did the upgrade. It's worth it in my book. Plus the Mini fits perfectly in the top of my lunch box.
I keep jumping between these two and ipad air.... and I've been leaning towards the air.... plan on getting the pencil, drawing a lot, maybe gaming, and a lot of watching movies. I also want something I can take a picture with and draw over it sketching out ideas to express my creativity better at work for sharing ideas.
I’ve been watching your videos on a daily basis! Waiting for the 2022 iPad Air but I’m planning to get my mom an iPad 9 or iPad Mini and this video is really helpful.
This is what I've been waiting for!!! Thank you 😍❤️
Hope you like it MJ!
i’m getting the mini for my birth birth :>
the compact size, price, speakers on both sides horizontally and compatibility with the apple pencil 2nd gen as a note taker is just perfect! i don’t care about the jelly scroll issue plus i’ll barely use vertically so it’s totally out of the question.
Thanks for the video. Easier now to make up my mind on which to get. I just ordered ipad 9 and will be getting it this mid Feb as there is no stock 🙃
You got me there on the last part. 🙂 I like this video, it's very helpful. 👍
I got the mini and love it. In my opinion, this is the ideal size a tablet should be. Like a notepad or paperback book, it’s my primary device for pretty much everything like note taking, sketching, watching movies, gaming and reading books. I use my 11 iPad Pro as a laptop now with the Smart Keyboard for work. My phone is only used for when I leave the house and for taking pics now.
Is the screen sufficient for multitasking, like reading from an e-book and simultaneously taking notes?
@@tanvi5378 it's absolutely fantastic for note taking and reading . U know how.. cuz it's not very big and is a bit bigger than a kindle tablet.
Mini is kinda smaller for using Ms excel and display could feel smaller for using editing video editing software's etc .
is screen okay for the taking notes? it should be comfortable for me
@@yarensencift5436 of course. This is What the IPad excels At . Taking notes and reading books on it .and if you're going to watch Netflix on it. It's more portable and handy than a laptop . U know laying back on the couch watching videos.

I am so excited 😆 I got the iPad 9 it will help me a lot playing games and taking notes will be useful thing for me the 256GB. Thx Sagi
Such a spoiler
I was regretting of small size before but battery durability and everything speedy soothes me… happy with mini
Great video as always! Not to mention the nice presentation
Thanks Segi for this great review.
Thank you Jay! (Sagi)
Love my mini 6 !
It’s nice for Lumafusion & iMovie 👍🏼
Thanks for adding the closed captions on your review! Very helpful for hearing impaired!!!
I’m so glad they are helpful!!! Thank you for being part of the channel!
The mini is something you have to realize you need. It’s the same feeling you’ll get when choosing between an iPad Pro 11 and a 12.9. Most people will go for the 11 and then realize they need a 12.9 1 year later. Honestly my mini is slowly but surely replacing my 11 pro 😞 I’m neglecting it because the mini fits in my pocket 😂
Upgraded to the mini 6 and pro 11 same week and can’t stop using the mini.
How does it fit in your pocket
Same iPad mini replaced my 12.9 I just realized I don’t need that much screen to draw
Well i sell my mac for later the New seventh gen ipad mini well its just more portable and powerfull! Hopefully and more comfortable
@@ChiaDai I think the difference is that, u can use iPad mini anywhere, but iPad pro, u will feel better using just on your desk.

I was waiting for this comparison. Finally, thanks for doing it 😭
Hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for being part of the channel!
Yes thanks 🙏
Thank you, I really appreciate your opinion, it really helps me.
Been waiting for this!
Bought the iPad 9 yesterday, one thing interesting for gamers: it didn't dim the brightness while playing PubG Mobile (without connected charger). On my Air 3, the 6th gen iPad and my iPhone 12 it always dimmed after a while due to iOS heat management. Haven't tried it while charging yet.
Fantastic comprehensive analysis 👍🏼
Your video is very well narated. Easy to make decision. Very appropriate and honest review.
I've owned all the mini range so far (except 3) and I just love their portability. I have two laptops of different sizes, so my iPad is just for media consumption and not productivity. If I did need an iPad for productivity, I would be looking at other larger options for sure. I love that I can pack my mini into my laptop/travel bag and not even notice the weight. The size is perfect for gaming too as it doesn't become cumbersome to hold after extended use. My mini 5 which was extremely well looked after just had an LCD failure (power adapter went a few months ago too). It's over €200 to fix it, so I decided just to buy the next gen mini instead. Hope the new one lasts a bit longer!
Hey man, I trying to raise some money to get the iPhone 13 mini because my phone is damaged and need a new phone asap to do my work, is there any service I can help you with like logo design, origami teaching and anything else?
Have u had mini 4? I’m not sure if I want the mini 4 or 9th generation…. Do u think the mini will be supported by apple longer or will it ‘’die out’’ soon?
@@ida-mariekaldbekken5929 Yep, I had the mini 4 but it is a couple of generations old now. It is still supported and can run the latest system software (OS 15), but I would be looking at the 9th gen if you are not bothered by the screen size.
Love your videos. I haven’t bought an iPad in years. I have an iPad mini 4 which I still use but vertical lines have started to appear on the screen so now I want to buy a new iPad. Apart from being on a tight budget, I also think I’d like to try a bigger display. Do you think I’d find the display on the IPad 9 just as good as the iPad mini 4 or better? Thanks.
One issue I had which led me to finally sell my Mini 6 is that so many applications do not allow text size to increase. While surfing for news, etc, the tiny text size was just too small to read without straining.
Watching this on my ipad mini 6! Got an ipad last 2017 but the mini fits for me, the size is just enough for me, i find the bigger ipad to be too bulky for my edc. Im inlove with this!
Excellent review sir!!!
Just got the iPad 6 mini and I love it. It's the 64G/5G model (that was the only one available from a store near by me). Let me start with the only disappointment and thing I don't like, the fingerprint ID power button. I guess I did not do my research and just assumed this had Face ID like my iPhone and iPad Pro. It just seems a bit more cumbersome to unlock than my previous mini with the home button (I realize there's no room for a home button here). With that out of the way, everything else is gold. I don't need the extra storage of the 256G model. I use this iPad when I go places where I'll have time to websurf, read etc. I also love it for note taking. The vastly improved Apple Notes app has gotten me to give up 1Note and I'm now in the process of trying to figure out how to transition all my notes to Apple notes (hint: it ain't easy). I already had an Apple Pencil II for my pro, so I can just move it from tablet to tablet as needed. I keep it in a Fintle case I got off Amazon for $15 (it looks like an old Composition Notebook). The case has a nice place for the pencil up against the charging side. It also lets the iPad sit flat on a surface to write on so you're not flopping around on that giant camera bulge. I'm sure I could have lived without the 5G cellular but as mentioned in the video the WiFi only model does not have GPS and I really like clamping this iPad in my Jeep. It's a much better navigation aid than the built in 8" display (which does use CarPlay). Other than the fingerprint ID issue, this iPad is perfect for me.
We just ordered the iPad 9 for my daughter for school use. Right now she's using my old Mini 5 and I'd be very surprised if she decides to keep the 9. I think the size of this one is much better.
GREAT VIDEO THANKS ;)
I got my son the 9 for Xmas and I’ll get the mini when I get my taxes. I like that I can fit it in my bag. Thank You for this video 😊
I bought an iPad Mini Celular- 8 years ago. I did not like it for browsing - I use my 14" laptop for that.
I use my Mini almost exclusively when I travel for the following:
#1- as a GPS unit in the car - the best GPS ever! As your pilot viewers pointed out.
#2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video a/w my laptop on the road
#3 - & as an eReader
Overall these years that is about all I have used the mini for (I don't game)
I will likely buy the new Mini 6 as my old one is on its last leg.

I have the iPad 9 but didn’t pick it myself, received this as a birthday gift and I’m very happy with it.
Love to watch your quality videos man you're awesome

Great review, but I don’t see the links to the keyboard for the iPad 9. Can you share thanks.
I had a kindle reader back when the iPad first came out, and I bought the iPad immediately, but when the mini finally came out I bought it and never went back. I’ve looked at the larger iPads again and again, and they just don’t offer enough to make me switch
Yay! Best comparison video I've seen yet! It's helped me settle on my purchase of the iPad 9th gen. I need more screen space over portability. Thanks!
So glad I could help. Thank you for being part of the channel!

Hello, What is the best iPad for video editing?
As a pilot i actually enjoy a bigger screen so I got the 9th gen. Not just for flying but for a macbook supplement (not replacement). Seeing the map and information on the same screen when you split it is so nice as a pilot and you can't really do that as well with the mini.
weird that your bigger screen is not covering transponder or other instruments………. wanna know what type u flyin
@@SirMopy cessna/archer. I thought it would too but it was fine on the yoke. Now I keep it on my lap and split screen it and have my iPhone suctioned to the window at eye level. The 2 together is perfect
Both of this is incredible . I brought both .
I currently have an iPad 6th gen with cellular. I think I’ll want to get the iPad mini cellular. I like the smaller form factor and the 4gb of ram. It also has Bluetooth audio 5.0. I want to be able to pair multiple Bluetooth speakers for dual audio.
the ipad Mini has a USC C so when matched up with a Monitor & logitech K600 keyboard, its a Laptop replacement (of sorts) for Uni students or people taking notes in meeting and RTN back to home office to dock
Thanks bro
I have a mini and I love it! It is small when I’m trying to use it for school work. I may get a bigger one and give my kid the mini down the road.
My reasons for getting an iPad 9 in 2023 does reveal my age a bit…being semi-retired I could afford the 256GB model, meaning I could finally copy over my complete iTunes music library, something I was unable to do on the 32/64GB iPhones I’ve been using in recent years (guess it also means I’m a bit of a cheapskate…). I also like having the option for wired audio, and I needed the packed in charger to use with my iPhone 12 Mini, which is still rocking a Lightning-port like the iPad…so there you go!
Do you think the ipad mini could work as a "graphic tablet" to edit with Sidecar on Photoshop and Lightroom? Would you recommend 64gb or 256gb, if I plan to use it mainly with Sidecar? Thanks for all your help! Your videos have been so useful!
Hey dude...i am watching on my ipad 9 gen....its just awesome....one and only thing i would like to say...its just an killer tablet in this price range....just go for it.....manage every task easily and very snappy....ipad OS 15...but did you notice any frame drop in temple run g as game at staring. Hello bro Which one's better suited to the game? Thanks from iran❤️
I game using the Anker Soundcore Life Q20 Bluetooth headphones*. They are awesome headphones for their relatively low price of $60. And I’m planning on upgrading to the iPad Mini 6 soon, so I’m not too worried about losing the headphone jack on my iPad 5. Yes, I’m still using that in 2022. It’s slow AF compared to the new stuff, and the camera sucks, but I don’t really use the camera on it (because it’s rather large for a camera), so it’s not too bad. But considering the fact that it might lose update support this year, it’s about time for an upgrade. And with the iPad Mini 6, I might be able to use it as a very high-quality camera, too, due to its smaller size!
