Build A Bike - Turning Random Parts Into An Affordable Commuter Road Bike

- After building my last parts bike, I had another customer reach out wanting a similar ride! The downside of building these one off bikes is just that..they’re one of a kind bikes, built using what I have laying around. I told the customer I would look through our warehouse and see if there was anything similar I had that we could build. After some hunting, I found this older road frame I had sitting around. All the other parts were easy enough to source.
He told me to take some creative liberties with this build, he just wanted to keep the cost under $400. I said no problem!
I went with some microshift components to keep the drivetrain cost down. We live near the beach, so there’s mod hills. 7 speeds will be more than enough for a city commuter in my area. I elected to go with a crankset with a narrow wide chain ring instead of one with a guide. I had to go with the wide flat bars as well! One fun thing I chose to do, more out of necessity, was to replace the headset with one that could accommodate sealed bearings. I had one in anodized blue to match the blue hubs on the wheels.
The final build was as follows:
- 57cm Steel Frame and fork
- 1x crankset
- sealed bearing headset
- 740mm riser bars
- 7 speed microshift shifter and derailleur
- Double wall rims on ano blue hubs
- CST Parkour Tires
- KMC Rust Resistant Chain
- Promax calipers and levers

Whats the cost if converting an old frame like this? What is the tooth count on that 1x? I am currently working on a 1999 Peugeot Jasper. I am keeping the original forks and bars. I do plan to upgrading the bottom bracket. It has a 48-38-28, 3x from what i can tell and a narrow freewheel 14-28' 6 speed on the back. Some tools and tires are in the mail and i am getting excited to clean the bearings and measure the bottom bracket. I want a commuter bike for work and for filming my RUclips city trai ridel videos. I am not filming my build because nobody should take my mechanical advice. Lol
Maybe $200-250 if you’re not replacing wheels. 1x tooth count is 44.

Not familiar with Builda, I saw video of how many you get and can see how you would have some cool ano blue components.
It’s our brand we design. Mostly cruisers and urban bikes, but we’ve released a entry level road bike and gravel bike before.
