As much as I enjoy your painted stuff, I really love when you match up components to frame as well as on this build. Just great looking. Those wheels too 🤌🏼
Dido. On some bikes the paint is just awesome and screaming for som color coordinated bling. The headset on the bike originally was awesome but I knew I had a used orange Chris king headset… 🙌
100% the way to go on that bike, now a few orange chain ring bolts , bottle cage bolts n seat clamp and you’ve suddenly make it look like a bike worth twice the price!!!
Watching the beginning of this got me thinking: I'd love to see a video where you just go through all your parts bins, it was groovy seeing all the different stuff! Anyway, thanks for all the awesome videos, Oldshovel!
Have a 25 y.o. custom 853 mtb frame set built here in the states. Turned into bmx-ish cruiser 1x7, 2.25" tires, small crossbar, mavic wheels, shimano xt derailleur, house of color emerald green paint still looks new.
Such a timely build! Was trying to figure out what to ride to pick up my Pumpkin Spice Latte just before Halloween… Another great build! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome Awesome build. I made my street fighter from a specilized sirrus. Running 42t in front and 10t-42t rear on rival 1 groupset and no problems on hills so you can definitely go bigger up front
So, unless I’m wrong, what started as a parts bin build turned into new components. Looked like a lot of new components were added after the initial setup. Looks like it could have gotten quite expensive for the average person.
I like what you did there. That's where all the old XT stuff is! I've been mulling something similar for my Specialized SL2 Roubaix with Ultregra 9, that has those mavic wheels on it. Great setup as is but a flat bar, 1x wide range, and 28c tires has me thinking...
Great rebuild as always, the bike looks fast while leaning on the wall already. It‘s always a pleasure to watch your work. I am working on a cannondale bad boy from 2000 and will switch it with a 1/10 or 11 into a streetfighter. Thanks for your awesome inspiration.
Love it. Have a set of those Mavic wheels, purchased 8 years ago S/H..still in use....also got myself a Stanton Sherpa 853 mtb frame ..great ride. Hope you enjoy your new bike
I wish I could visit the shops up there, a lot more bike stuff in Utah than here in rural TX nada, we do have one bike shop about 25 minutes away, I have a friend that lives by Hurricane if I remember.
Really 'fixie classic' on the styling. I would be on the look-out for an orange seat. As far as the build; You and I think a lot alike. 38T chain ring is the sweet spot for a 1X street fighter.
Beautiful bike sir! I love your videos and I also love building bikes to my hearts desire. Each one is my own. Keep on building!!!!!! and riding!!!!!!!
I love me a streetfighter build. It's funny to me because all of my road bikes have flat bars and the only bike I have with drops is a 26er MTB I converted into something of a gravel touring bike!
very nice.. looks like a great practical bike for around town/commuting... the only thing I'd add is some Cane Creek ergo bar ends... I loved them nearly 20 years ago on my karate monkey and if I was to do flat bars on a street bike they would 100% make the cut.
I made a very similar parts bin bike, a 26" steel Voodoo Hoodoo with 700x38c and it rips. I have drops on it now but it looked better with a flat bar. Not as flash as yours though, great build.
Nice build, I can stare at it all day. The thing about "parts bin builds", at least for me, is that I love the idea of putting random bits to use, but eventually the mismatched parts start bothering me. For me, at least the cockpit always ends up harmonized. I was wondering how the 73mm BB was going to affect your chainline. The ring definitely goes inside of the spider (glad you made it work), but even then I'd be curious about the chainline.
Nice build video, as usual! I have a streetfighter on my list of builds for this winter. Keep up the great videos and thanks for putting yourself out there. -Mike's Bikes Work
Was looking for a Lemond cause of their 853 Frames and just so happened to come across a KHS Flite 800 in a Reddish Root Beer color. Not sure the year however supposedly they only made the Flite 800 for only four years from 2000-2003. I'm going 11 Speed with a Praxis Zayante 48-32 Carbon Crank, a Shimano 105 11-32 Cassette, SL RS700 (105/Ultegra) Rapid Fire Shifters, Ultegra R8000 Medium Cage RD, Ultegra Brakes, with some Kysrium Elite Wheels with Continental 700x28 Reflective Tires. Might do a video. Jesse from the SF Bay Area
Thanks for the reply. Just curious, do you know what year model your KHS is as mine looks exactly the same with the color shemem of the decals. Hard to tell what color it is. Mine again is a darkish reddish Brown. Thanks
Part of it was plans changing mid build. I chose to keep the 10 speed drivetrain for another upcoming build. I didn’t show much on the choice to change.
Nice job. I like how neat and organized you are, with all those parts in plastic boxes and the right tools. What size of tires did you install? And yes, I would've put a bigger chainring. Great video, short and concise. I liked the ride at the end. And good music.
I built mine very similar to this, but found that the gearing ratio was too "soft". So I put a 105 road cassette on it. It is now the beast I intended.
Very nice build, love the wheels and the parts layout. Just wondering why you would splash out on a 11-51 casette on a bike with v-brakes and road tires. But propably you live near steep hills 🙂
I never knew I have a streetfighter too. It is nothing like this one, but it is made from my dads first bike and it has a flip flop hub, so I can run it fixed or single speed. I call it City Slayer haha,
Hi, I really like your work, and most of your projects but I want to point out something. At the crank arm assembly, I didn't see you using grease between the chainring and crank arm and also thread locker on bolts. Maybe I didn't see it write but you can tell me. I have a lot of respect for your work and I enjoyed all your videos. One question I have for you, when can we see a suspension fork service on your channel ? :) Keep doing the great work mate ! Cheers from Europe :D
Gotta put some air in that tube at, 8:10. Just enough to make it round and flow into the tyre. I usually just blow it up with my mouth to get started. Edit: Finally some ratchet action at 10:00, folks!
How has the bluing and topcoat held up? I really want to do this to my old Raleigh, but I'm in New England that gets a lot more rain than SLC, so I worry about rust. Maybe a clear powder coat would help?
It does take more care but it has heal up well. I did 3 top coats of clear finish on the Lemond and I think this is a minimum. The clear still gets rubbed and nicked and then rusted a bit here and there.
He is checking the perfect alignment of the rear derailleur hanger, with the specific tool. You compare the distance with the rim at different angles (but the same position of the rim, so turning the wheel, he used the valve position as reference, to also avoid any issues caused by possible error in the trueness of the wheel).
The inside of the crank spider had a slightly larger edge diameter than the outside so I had to file the chainring dow slightly. The holes are the same but the edge of the ring is slightly different. Shimano has a few cranks from the same era where this is the case.
The cainring could be a little bit bigger i guess. 38 to 50 is a pretty low gear for a road bike. I'm running 42/46 on my gravelbike and i barely need a lower gear.
As much as I enjoy your painted stuff, I really love when you match up components to frame as well as on this build. Just great looking. Those wheels too 🤌🏼

As an owner of 5 KHS bikes I love to see this
Very impressed with the cycling infrastructure on your route
Nice build, it left me speechless. I could say nothing but wow 😊
I feel more comfortable riding upright than holding on to the drop bars.
Your parts bins! So organized, bagged grips is a great idea, keeps them clean till used!
Watching the beginning of this got me thinking: I'd love to see a video where you just go through all your parts bins, it was groovy seeing all the different stuff! Anyway, thanks for all the awesome videos, Oldshovel!
Really like the flat bar on a road bike.
Some nice touches with the colour combinations

I have a KHS Montana in a beautiful lime green with a cromo frame. The thing is bomb proof. Even the headset stem is steel. Love those orange grips.👍
Such a timely build! Was trying to figure out what to ride to pick up my Pumpkin Spice Latte just before Halloween… Another great build! Thanks for sharing.
🙌
Awesome Awesome build. I made my street fighter from a specilized sirrus. Running 42t in front and 10t-42t rear on rival 1 groupset and no problems on hills so you can definitely go bigger up front
I agree. I’m sure I’ll still be swapping things on it occasionally.
Very nice streetfighter! Beautiful place you live. Must be very demanding hills with that enormous casette.
Lol for my commute I like to take it easy. 😁
So, unless I’m wrong, what started as a parts bin build turned into new components. Looked like a lot of new components were added after the initial setup. Looks like it could have gotten quite expensive for the average person.
Yeah..."after going through my parts bin, I decided to get a load of brand new components instead" 😅
I just finished and sold a semi similar build. 80s Trek 400 converted from drop bar to flat, 27" to 700c, and 3x6 to 1x9. A nice ride!
Awesome
Finaly a flat bar road bike build it looks sweet.
🙌

Great build as always! I love the street fighter look as well. Nice homage to Seth, by the way. Sometimes you just gotta stare!
Wow, what an awesome build, love that frame & components, flat bar road bikes are a blast to ride!
Beautiful build. Love the rear cassette and the one ring setup
Thanks
Like the “new style” where you introduce the parts to be used in the beginning👍 Great build as usual!🏆
Thanks

I got my grips because of this channel and the are still going strong 💪
Awesome
What a Flite!
Perfect!!
Thanks
This guys parts stash is insane🤣🤣
Great build mate
I think disc breaks are great, but there is just something about road bike and rim brakes. I love them and will always have one.
1 by and the dinner plate cassette, plus the Mavic wheels & carbon fork- make this a really cool build! Street fighter ..... ?
This build is my favourite you've done so far🤩 muy muy bueno 👍💪
Thanks
Basically like my build but with a loop bar. Epic on the flats and the hills.
Black and orange is very cool !
Really 'fixie classic' on the styling. I would be on the look-out for an orange seat. As far as the build; You and I think a lot alike. 38T chain ring is the sweet spot for a 1X street fighter.
Totally 🙌

I love this bike....simple but clean....I would love to find one similar to it
I love me a streetfighter build. It's funny to me because all of my road bikes have flat bars and the only bike I have with drops is a 26er MTB I converted into something of a gravel touring bike!
Not only is this a nice build, but you are Reasonably Dangerous ripping down those hills 🙂
It came out great. Beautiful bike
Thanks

I was wondering how the 73mm BB was going to affect your chainline. The ring definitely goes inside of the spider (glad you made it work), but even then I'd be curious about the chainline.
It could still go in about 3-5mm to get the best chain line but it’s working well.
Great episode. I am gathering parts to do the same to a GT frame set.
Awesome 🙌
Awesome! another great build video. There is an old KHS near me but I had to pass on it. I don't think it was 853 though.
Great build, great video... Each video a new inspiration for me.
Old school, great.
Thanks
This bike is awesome! Working as a courier I would love to ride it!
Awesome
Cool build,Rob. Love the color combos.

Love the build, I know it is just a cosmetic thing but the Headset cups are installed upside down.
Beautiful bike, congrats
Thanks
Great realization, very nice bike 👍
Thanks
Nice build, the bike looks beautifull
Thanks
your ride to work looks great!
I have those exact same rims on my 15 y.o. (maybe older??) Specialized Allez Road Comp bike. Looks good Rob!
Thanks 🙏
Very cool build!
Killer ......I have 3 old school street fighter bikes....best mod for old road bikes.......excellent
Beautiful build!
Thanks
Question - why did you show picking through the parts bin and picking out cassette and grips, then use new boxed parts in the build?
Part of it was plans changing mid build. I chose to keep the 10 speed drivetrain for another upcoming build. I didn’t show much on the choice to change.
Nice job. I like how neat and organized you are, with all those parts in plastic boxes and the right tools. What size

This bike became a beast!!! And wonderful build as well!!! =D
Thanks
Oooh sir, very nice.
I would personally put bar ends on it, but shorten the bars to scrape past cars 😂
Great video, just got bothered by the upside down prints on the headset cups. Hahaha
this is so sick
Thanks
😲😲Jaw droppin build. Luv it!
Thanks
Love this build.
Is the Chris King headset supposed to be mounted with the logos upside down?
Theres like a 10 minute conversation on why he has puts the headset upside down on another video. Essentially it's doesn't matter
Yep. It’s mostly just for fun.

Orange is not my color of choice but it fits and completes the look of this bike.
I built mine very similar to this, but found that the gearing ratio was too "soft". So I put a 105 road cassette on it. It is now the beast I intended.

Beautiful Bike ♥

Love it! But...wouldn't this be a "hybrid"?

Wow, that bike is hot!
First off, name of the song please? Great track and great build. You’ve inspired me to do a “neo-retro” rebuild of my ‘93 Schwinn Moab.
Awesome. The songs are listed at the end of the video description.
@@oldshovel thanks!
Great build! One of my favourites. Also match shirt and grips! Also, also how smooth is that tarmac in the montage
very nice build!
could you take a 2000's Dynacraft Next bike and turn it into something you would ride? I would love to see that!
Thanks. If I find one perhaps. 🙌
and with that huge range cassete for a road bike tyres i would put like 44 t nw sprocket
👏🏼🇧🇷
Você mora numa linda cidade.
🙏🙌
Dream Bike😍😍😍😍 nice build bro 👍❤️
Nice Build.
Nice ..that's sweet..
What's that things weight? 22 , 23 lbs. maybe . Flat bar makes roadbike look awesome.
Killer find on the frame ..
It weighs in at just over 20 lbs, at about 20.5. Just a bit heavier than my Lemond StreetFighter which is just under 20.
Meu Deus que acervo de peças, sonho de muitos.
Orange's the king when it comes to colors ;) In which city does @oldshovel ride (if he wants to disclose that)?
It does look good. As to where I’m at I’m in Utah riding around Bountiful and the Salt Lake area.
@@oldshovel Beautiful there...I need to visit Utah ;)

You’re correct on the tube. I was actually just being lazy. 😁

@@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele Thank you, that was really helpful!

Maybe I missed something, but why the filing on the chain ring?
The inside of the crank spider had a slightly larger edge diameter than the outside so I had to file the chainring dow slightly. The holes are the same but the edge of the ring is slightly different. Shimano has a few cranks from the same era where this is the case.
