      @@litrayle Just out of curiosity, how does it handle, as the geometry is setup for gravel handlebars? I know specialized tried this a couple of years back (and I really wanted to get it), but the reviews said it was a bit twitchy and not ideal. That being said, I prefer flatbars. Either way...that's a properly great build.

    • @litrayle
      @litrayle  Год назад +1

      @@AndrewDBrown2020 Generally speaking however, i really like the handling. I can only describe it as agile and zippy. The handlebars give you a huge amount of control for quick and tight maneuvering, you also get good acceleration and speed. It also really helps that the bike is rather light. For me it's perfect for the city, parks and light single trail.
      This is actually my second bike of this kind. The industry has named them "fitness bikes", road geometry with flat handlebars, there's quite a few of them: ROSE Multicross, Canyon Roadlite, Specialized Sirrus etc. Putting a flat bar on generally gives you a more upright, comfortable position that some people enjoy. Turns out, the geo of the Backroad AL is actually not that far off your everyday endurance road bike either, except for generally being a bit bulkier.
      So how does my bike feel now? Well, it's fine. For my personal preference, the position is a bit too upright at the moment, but i'm planning on swapping out the stem and getting rid of a bunch of a spacers soon. Stay tuned for the video. :)

    • @AndrewDBrown2020
      @AndrewDBrown2020 Год назад +2

      @@litrayle Great response and makes perfect sense to me. I'm a bit older than I'd like to be, so more upright is actually better. Keep up the great work.

    For a real urban bike, you need mud guards and a rear or front rack. As of now it’s a only useful for snow. You need studded tires for ice on the roads. Handlebar and saddle need to be changed for a more upright position to view traffic. I know, it depends on the kind of weather you ride in. If you’re an urban rider who uses the bike for transport, you need to ready for any weather.

    Why shimano 12s chain did not match?

    • @litrayle
      @litrayle  Год назад +17

      Yeah that was one of the biggest surprises.
      Short answer: Shimano 12s chains are not compatible with the 11s chainring that i was using.
      So for context: I was using a 12s cassette and chain with an 11s grx chain ring. In theory 11s and 12s should have the same inner width (which they also have). The problem is however that shimano has a very different profile on their 12s narrow-wide chainrings, which makes 12s shimano chains incompatible with 11s shimano nw chainrings. My fix was to use a kmc 12s chain. It doesn't have the special profile and works like an absolute charm! Best shifting i ever had on any bike! 💯

    I have similar ideas. I have a 2010s hybrid , want to change my 3x9 Shimano to 1x12 wireless SRAM and put 65 mm fork with remote lockout. Maybe dropper too, but haven't tried. Do you jump off curbs? Does the dropper help with this? Sometimes are doubts about the jump because the saddle seems too raised (for jump, If just pedal, it's fine)

  • @MisterAndyS

    This bike was really easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
