Last year I was an organic grain farmer, now I am living on a sailboat.

whenever i think about living on a sailboat, i am reminded of Henry, the artist character in Steinbeck's Cannery Row, who lived in a beautiful sailboat that built from scratch but never set in the water (he was afraid of the sea). Steinbeck's description of Henry's lifestyle and relationship with his sailboat is priceless.

I was out today and it got a little spicy even...a few gusts knocked the toe rail into the water. Awesome.

Pardon me if I sound heretical, but --- have you considered shipping your boat across the continent? Avoid the Panama Canal? (I have this vision of your 21 foot boat in one of those giant locks!). Crossing the North Atlantic should be enough of a challenge for you to start out with. Note: I am assuming you are not considering taking on the Horn!

I love seeing you so relaxed and happy in this video. This is the fastest I've yet seen your boat move. 3-4 knots is not to be despised. Beautiful weather. I was thinking of you today as I am contemplating a trip to my northwards. Birch Bay, or Blaine with its famous Semiahmoo Spit for pelagic birds. I'd be so close to you then.

I am now in Shelter Island on the Fraser River in Richmond BC. I moved the boat here over the weekend. That will be next weekend's video. I've had the boat up to 6 knots! That is my pb so far.
We'll have to see what is in store for Vie Sauvage (28 feet). She will definitely not make the Atlantic crossing. I am hopeful that I will be able to afford to buy a slightly larger, blue-water, boat for that part of the journey. There are so many different things that can happen. I am not ruling anything out at this point. Shipping it is an option too. Likely though, she will stay on the west coast while I, or we, go ahead with buying a boat on the other side.

@@JohnFrasersWildLife Good. I've been watching this younger guy James on 'Sailing Triteia' as he crossed the Pacific on long sections, and if that doesn't sober up a potential deep water sailor, nothing will! His boat is the same basic size. But he spent FOUR YEARS prepping, and he still had major failures - like the engine, the tiller, etc. But on the upside he met a gorgeous dame in New Zealand (Rhonda) and she's now his partner for a non-determined time. I watch his channel just to look at Rhonda. 😂
