Hey John, was wonderful to run into you the other day and get to chat for awhile! The work you've done on that sailboat in this video looked really great, I'm hoping your business takes off just enough to pay the bills, but not so much that you aren't able to get out sailing anymore! See you around!

Obviously there is some variation in temperatures in the Pacific Northwest of NW Washington State and southwestern B.C./southern Vancouver Isl. But we here in Island County, WA have had our hottest temps this year/season/summer. Down south of us in King County/Seattle is has been even hotter (heat island).
Everyone is remarking upon this since it is driving lots of outdoor activities, and even indoor ones; so, I was not surprised when you John mentioned the same thing where you are. As the gull flies you and I are now 52 miles apart. So, sort of "neighbors". (We were closer neighbors in the Port Roberts days. Incidentally John, currently you are only 25 miles from Pt. Roberts).
In recent years there has been a sort of "vogue thing" called "Tiny Houses". As I looked once again at your boat's inside living area, I was struck by that juxtaposition. In other words, those "tiny houses" are not "tiny" in comparison with life on a boat! Whereas I am currently down-sizing from living in a two bedroom house with about 1700 square feet, to a small one bedroom apartment with ca. 450 square feet! But that is still huge compared to the Vie Sauvage, eh!!
It seems like a lot of folks are learning (and needing) to live in smaller domiciles these days. Mainly due to the terrible debasement of the fiat currencies throughout much of the Western world. It is impoverishing most of us. It seems to me that the key with regard to having some kind of quality of life, is to choose your situation creatively, and be willing to try new things. Making lemonade out of lemons maybe.

Hi John, First off let me just say I am quite angry with you I ran across your channel about a week ago and haven't been able to stop watching I've now binged watched every episode. I found myself really caught up in your story and it has really struck a chord with me. I've also had the dream of living on the west coast in a similar fashion which I hope to make come true in the next few years if I can ever get away from this work thing. Anyway just wanted to drop a line and thank you for sharing your story and wish you the best of luck from just south of Calgary.
Maybe If I ever get a chance to get my dream going we will run across one another out on the water.
    Cheers!

Watched this video. Then went and watched your first video. Interesting. Think i may check them out. Intriguing on how you are pretty much starting from scratch. I respect how you left the farm to your family without disrupting everything. The only thing i think i caution is relying on youtube for money. You have so many skills it seems, youtube could be a waste of time if you put too much time into it. Rather use youtube as a way to share and meet like minded quality people. But, thats only my opinion, i definitely feel you need to do whats right for you. Gonna head to the park and watch some of your vids. I just took two months off and drove to Alaska. Now im back at work saving for the next goal. My job pays quite well and i have almost unlimited flexibility for time off but sadly i despise it.

Hey Matthew. RUclips revenue. Very lucrative when combined with brand deals and other side-hustles that occur. I’m well-connected with folks who are way ahead of me in the RUclips game. It will be a good revenue base moving forward. For now, the varnish king gig is going well enough to pay some bills and let me enjoy some living. Many of the other benefits of RUclips, you’ve mentioned as well…very honoured to have folks like you show up and introduce yourself to me.
We also have a Patreon account where folks can help sustain the content. It is a labour of love…so the more support I gather, the more I get to keep on producing shows.
Looking forward to seeing what is in store for your future dreams!

Have you considered using solar power to run a frig/freezer combo unit. A cursory look at solar power requirements appears to indicate that four 400 watt solar panels along proper batteries would be more than adequate. I have no solar power knowledge - just wondering whether you could make it work.
